Chapter 109: Dying Embers, The Original World

Endless wind and snow swept over, but passed through Chao Jianxue’s body. After a moment of disorientation, he suddenly realized that he had used the Dream-Entering Butterfly to enter Yu Wei’s nightmare.

Even so, he couldn’t see Yu Wei.

Chao Jianxue took a step forward, trying to push aside the oncoming snowflakes, but he couldn’t touch them, let alone block the wind and snow. He had no choice but to brave the swirling blizzard.

Looking around, he discovered that this was the Moon-Viewing Platform of the Wuwu Sect.

However, this Moon-Viewing Platform was towering and bitterly cold. The pavilions were already decaying, their appearance completely eroded by the wind and snow that had persisted for who knows how many years.

Chao Jianxue walked down with doubt. Aside from the erosion of wind and frost, it was no different from the Wuwu Sect before it fell into Ink Lake.

He turned around the mountain path, expecting to see Qingxue Abode, but it didn’t appear, causing Chao Jianxue to be stunned.

Where Qingxue Abode should have been, there was only a single tree, pure white, but with withered branches and leaves. The flower buds that looked like flowers at a glance were all made of snow.

He wandered around and discovered that only his Qingxue Abode was missing from the entire Wuwu Sect. All the other buildings were there.

Was he unseen in Yu Wei’s dream?

He couldn’t find Yu Wei’s shadow in the Wuwu Sect. Not to mention Yu Wei, there wasn’t a single person in the sect. It was empty and deathly silent, like a ghost domain.

So Chao Jianxue left the sect and finally saw people in the Zhongchang Heaven Realm.

Those people couldn’t see him. Chao Jianxue walked among them like a wisp of spirit.

He became increasingly puzzled as he walked, for no other reason than that the people here were filled with hostility. They would start fighting on the street at the drop of a hat. They would argue over trivial matters, trading insults and spittle.

Chao Jianxue walked a little further away, feeling that if he stayed any longer, he would be spat on.

It was truly strange. The spiritual energy here was pure, without a trace of demonic energy, even cleaner than the Profound Truth Realm in reality, yet it was filled with such great hostility.

Before him, another group of people was about to start fighting. Chao Jianxue couldn’t dodge in time, and the person in front of him raised a bench to smash him. Even though he knew he wouldn’t be hit, Chao Jianxue subconsciously raised his arm.

    But suddenly, everyone’s movements stopped.

Seeing them suddenly become as quiet as cicadas in winter, Chao Jianxue looked suspiciously in the direction of their gaze. He saw a person walking out of the crowd.

Dressed in white so dazzlingly, Chao Jianxue narrowed his eyes.

Every inch of his clothing was soaked in shimmering celestial light. Silver threads trimmed the robe, like the moon coming slowly from the sky, but colder and purer than moonlight. It was Yu Wei, unfamiliar to Chao Jianxue.

It was Yu Wei who had already become a True Immortal.

Chao Jianxue stood in place, watching Yu Wei walk in his direction. The originally noisy crowd was completely silent from the moment he appeared until he passed by, as if their lifeblood had been seized. They bowed deeply, their heads lowered.

He didn’t speak, but his cold expression contained endless pressure, making it hard to breathe.

Chao Jianxue realized that here, Yu Wei was a supreme being, capable of reaping lives with a flip of his hand. That was why everyone feared him.

Chao Jianxue calmed himself, took a step forward, and called out to him, “Yu Wei…”

Yu Wei, unaware, walked straight past him. The surrounding chill assaulted him, and Chao Jianxue shivered.

It was not quite what Chao Jianxue had imagined.

When he saw Yu Wei walking towards him earlier, he thought he had seen him.

With the Dream-Entering Butterfly, why couldn’t Yu Wei see him? Chao Jianxue couldn’t figure it out.

The white-robed True Immortal walked through the crowd and finally disappeared at the end of it.

Everyone relaxed at once, but the people in front of Chao Jianxue no longer had the energy to continue their earlier quarrel and dispersed hastily.

Chao Jianxue listened carefully and pieced together the cause and effect from the whispers of the crowd.

They said that Yu Wei ascended a thousand years ago and led the Immortal Sect to destroy the Demon Realm on his own, allowing the human race to unify the Profound Truth Realm. He then spent five hundred years completely eliminating the demonic energy in the Fumo Pass, even uprooting the demonic energy in the Profound Truth Realm.

Logically, the Profound Truth Realm, having eliminated all demons, should have been filled with abundant spiritual energy. Without any external obstacles, everyone should have been able to attain immortality.

But in reality, the Profound Truth Realm lost the conditions for demonic energy to survive, but it amplified the various evil thoughts in the hearts of the human race. In the past, there was still the threat of becoming demonized, but now, lacking restraints, the Profound Truth Realm was a place of the survival of the fittest. Human cultivators no longer suppressed evil intentions. In five hundred years, their cultivation regressed again and again, and hostility arose.

The original Immortal Sect had long been buried in the light of a thousand years, and no one had cultivated to the Mahayana stage or above since. Yu Wei’s name naturally became the sole master.

And according to rumors, True Immortal Yu Wei hated evil like an enemy. If anyone displayed evil deeds in front of him, he would be killed without exception.

Therefore, everyone had turned into ostriches with their heads buried when Yu Wei appeared earlier.

As Chao Jianxue stood in the crowd, a certain guess appeared in his mind. He broke out in a cold sweat and chased after Yu Wei in the direction he had disappeared.

If he wasn’t mistaken, this nightmare was Yu Wei from the original ending.

The Yu Wei who truly slaughtered the Profound Truth Realm.

There was no Qingxue Abode in the Wuwu Sect, perhaps because the “Chao Jianxue” of this world had truly died of heartbreak during the Immortal Sect Competition. Naturally, there would be no trace of “Chao Jianxue” afterward.

And the Yu Wei here had of course long forgotten about this senior brother who had disappeared into the long river of time and had nothing to do with him.

Fortunately, Chao Jianxue still had cultivation in this world. He traveled thousands of miles a day, searching all the places where Yu Wei might be. Finally, at the Dongyuan Jade Jungle, on a leaf boat, he found Yu Wei.

The Jade Jungle’s leaf boat was lonely here, in the season of severe winter. All that could be seen were withered lotus flowers and branches, desolate and standing on the black water shadows, shriveled and withered. Chao Jianxue’s heart was also empty.

A solitary figure was practicing swordsmanship among the withered lotuses. As he watched, it was even more extraordinary than the sword techniques Yu Wei was currently using, colder and sharper than all the sword techniques Chao Jianxue had ever seen, filled with killing intent.

Chao Jianxue realized that this was the supreme Sword Heart of the Path of Emotionlessness.

In this world, Yu Wei had actually cultivated the Path of Emotionlessness to ascension.

No wonder he was able to eliminate all demons.

But where did his Yu Wei go?

Chao Jianxue couldn’t help but step forward. The Yu Wei in front of him suddenly stopped his swordplay, lowered his head, and stared intently at the lotus pond.

Chao Jianxue looked down and realized that the surface of the lotus pond had rippled as he walked.

The black water shadow seemed to be crumpled, spreading out in circles, until it reached Yu Wei’s feet, creating another small ripple.

Could it be that his existence could finally affect this nightmare?

    Chao Jianxue held his breath.

The Yu Wei in front of him raised his sword. He still couldn’t see him, but he obviously regarded him as some kind of threat.

The edge of the Only Sword just grazed Chao Jianxue’s cheek. Yu Wei’s eyes were cold as he said, “Show yourself!”

“…” Chao Jianxue wanted to show himself, but he couldn’t see him.

He plucked up his courage and extended two fingers towards the Only Sword, but they still passed through the sword, only feeling cold.

So, he simply took a few more steps forward. Yu Wei watched as the ripples rippled towards him. His stern expression tightened even more, and he unleashed his sword energy.

Chao Jianxue was unharmed. He came in front of him and shouted loudly, “Yu Wei! Wake up!” He even tried to grab his lapel, repeatedly grabbing at empty air.

But Yu Wei obviously couldn’t hear him either. He only frowned and chanted incantations. Layers of sword formations and magic formations bloomed around him. If Chao Jianxue wasn’t incompatible with this world, he would definitely be stabbed into a hedgehog according to this kind of formation.

The taste of becoming a ghost was really unpleasant, but then again, “Chao Jianxue” in this world was indeed already a ghost.

The ghost followed Yu Wei for several days, and Chao Jianxue discovered that Yu Wei’s life was simply too lonely.

Because he was a True Immortal, he had no relatives or friends. He was like an ascetic monk every day, neither crying nor laughing. The coldness radiating from his body was more like death energy than celestial energy.

The hearts of the people in the Profound Truth Realm were not as they used to be. Yu Wei would mercilessly kill those who did evil. And later generations deeply feared him, but beneath the fear, there were also people who were indignant. Chao Jianxue even heard someone spit and curse, “He killed demons and eliminated evil in order to dominate everyone’s lives! If it weren’t for him, how would the Profound Truth Realm have become like this!”

He heard it, and Yu Wei must have heard it too. He thought he would draw his sword, but Chao Jianxue saw that his expression didn’t change, his steps didn’t stop, and he was still indifferent like the cold sword in his hand, only not like a living person.

Chao Jianxue walked beside him, a bitter taste rising in his heart. He felt sorry for Yu Wei’s experience. Would Yu Wei outside the dream abandon his hatred for demons and eliminate the prejudice that all demons must be killed if he was there? Otherwise, it would be like this.

Exterminate all demons, ascend to True Immortal.

But also alone. Finally, he discovered that after adhering to the righteous rules of eliminating demons since childhood, the world went against his ideals.

It would be nice if he had someone to accompany him.

Chao Jianxue suddenly understood that if this world had truly existed, “Chao Jianxue” of course couldn’t exist in the current timeline. He had to not be “Chao Jianxue.”

After figuring out this key point, the next day, Yu Wei was meditating on a leaf boat.

    “Mmm.”

A faint sound broke the silence.

Yu Wei opened his eyes. A small leopard, black all over, nuzzled up to him.

This was the form Chao Jianxue had transformed into after much deliberation.

If he could transform into a demon form, it would be something like this.

The little leopard’s eyes were black and clear, and its pink paw pads pressed against Yu Wei’s leg, using its head to rub against his hand. Yu Wei froze in place when he touched the soft and delicate fur.

Chao Jianxue pressed his advantage and threw himself into his arms, pretending to be cute and acting spoiled.

Yu Wei was stiff for a while, stingily touched his head, and then drove him away.

    Chao Jianxue fell over again.

After repeating this two or three times, he suddenly heard a soft laugh.

This was simply a long time coming. Chao Jianxue looked up and saw the smile on Yu Wei’s lips, even more beautiful than the sunset glow overhead. The cinnabar dot on his eyelashes was like flowing fire, melting all his coldness.

“Little friend, you’ve found the wrong person.”

Chao Jianxue’s heart skipped a beat and immediately burrowed into his wide sleeves.

No mistake, the one I’m looking for is you!

A warm little animal, whimpering and acting spoiled.

    Yu Wei kept him.

The little leopard was too small and often couldn’t keep up with Yu Wei. Yu Wei patiently picked him up and let him sit on his shoulder or lie in his arms. Chao Jianxue comfortably purred, also hoping that he could be happier and smile more.

The passage of time in the dream didn’t conform to common sense. Chao Jianxue clearly knew that he had only spent a few brief moments with Yu Wei, but he knew that from Yu Wei’s perspective, it was years, even decades…

Finally, one day, he took him to the Wuwu Sect.

Chao Jianxue thought that even if “he” had already died, there must still be traces of his existence in the sect.

To make Yu Wei remember him, he had to let him see these traces.
