    Heading to Battle

Temporary Meeting Room of the Command Center.

Hu Xianwei arrived just in time to see Qin Feng and Xu Shan coming out.

Qin Feng looked displeased. When he bumped into Hu Xianwei, he grunted heavily, brushed past him, and left. Xu Shan, following behind Qin Feng, awkwardly greeted him and hurried away as well.

Inside the meeting room, Fang Ganlang was talking to Xiao An and Gu Xingjian.

Hearing the sound from the doorway, the three of them looked over.

Fang Ganlang: “Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. You can go.”

Xiao An and Gu Xingjian nodded, greeted Hu Xianwei, and left.

“You’re faster than I expected.” Hu Xianwei walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down. “I thought I’d arrive to hear you two arguing.”

“There’s nothing to argue about. We’ve received definite news from Jin City that the sea fog will land in 22 hours.” Fang Ganlang chuckled and sat down next to him. “I’m still the supreme commander of the team, and in an emergency, I have the right to make decisions.”

At this point, Fang Ganlang paused. “Old Qin is stuck in the past. He’s hostile to anything related to Mutated Entities. Don’t take his words to heart.”

“If I took everything he said to heart, I’d be buried in countless graves by now.” Hu Xianwei scoffed, then changed the subject. “Have you made up your mind?”

Fang Ganlang said: “I originally wanted to use Shen Shu to deal with Mutated Entities. Now it’s just a change of method, and this method even has a chance to solve the problem once and for all. The choice is obvious.”

Hu Xianwei was silent for a moment: “Who are you planning to send with Little Shu?”

“Old Hu, don’t ask such obvious questions.” Fang Ganlang looked at him. “Just looking at this Omen event, Xie Yi is the only suitable candidate.”

“So you only plan to send Xie Yi and Little Shu.” Hu Xianwei said in a deep voice.

    Fang Ganlang: “Yes.”

Hu Xianwei: “No one knows the specific situation of the place Little Shu mentioned. Just relying on the two of them…”

“Old Hu, you also said that place was mentioned by Shen Shu.” Fang Ganlang interrupted him. “Shen Shu obviously favors Xie Yi. With him there, Xie Yi will be fine. But if it were someone else, those people might not be. Given the current situation faced by all Safety Zones, I can’t afford to gamble too much. This bit of trust is the only thing I can do.”

“Besides, some things don’t necessarily require a lot of people to succeed. Xie Yi’s ability ranks high among field agents, and Shen Shu was personally brought out by Fei Yuelan. You should have confidence in them.”

Hu Xianwei closed his mouth, but his expression remained unpleasant.

Fang Ganlang: “I’ve already had Xiao An inform each Safety Zone about what Shen Shu said. The information was obtained by one of our field agents who was corrupted while fighting the Omen and about to lose his mind. We’ll have personnel verify the information. In the meantime, I will negotiate with the Security Defense Teams of other Safety Zones to rearrange deployments. We won’t retreat into the underground cities until the very end.”

After a long while, Hu Xianwei closed his eyes. “When are you planning to have them leave?”

Fang Ganlang: “The sooner the better, of course.”

“Two hours from now. The two kids haven’t recovered yet. Let them rest, and I want to prepare something.” After Hu Xianwei finished speaking, he got up directly and turned to walk towards the door.

“Old Hu.” Fang Ganlang suddenly called out to Hu Xianwei again.

Hu Xianwei stopped, but didn’t turn around. Behind him, Fang Ganlang sighed, “I know you just want to protect Tian Xing’s child. Believe me, after this, if they can come back alive safely, I’ll help you.”

An hour and a half later, Special Containment Room S0013.

When Hu Xianwei arrived, Jiang Li was still guarding the door. He looked at the closed metal door. “Has there been any movement inside?”

Jiang Li shook her head. “Teacher, can’t we really go in and watch over them? It’s been so long. What if…”

Before she could finish speaking, a faint sound suddenly came from the closed metal door next to her.

The two of them were stunned and looked over. They saw the metal door that had been tightly closed a second ago being slowly pushed open from the inside. Dense white mist poured out from the crack in the door, instantly occupying the doorway.

Jiang Li subconsciously wanted to look forward, but Hu Xianwei pulled her back and pushed her away.

He looked up at the corridor to make sure the alarm was still silent, and then looked at the metal door again.

“Shen Shu!” When the metal door was pushed open halfway, Jiang Li saw Shen Shu standing inside and exclaimed in surprise, “Where’s Xie Yi?”

As she spoke, she stepped forward, wanting to go in, but Shen Shu reached out and stopped her. “He’s fine, he just needs to adapt. Jiang Researcher, could you please get a set of the highest-level protective suit and a safe box?”

Jiang Li frowned and met his gaze, remaining motionless for a long time.

“Little Li.” Hu Xianwei suddenly spoke. “Go get them.”

“Okay, Teacher.” Jiang Li pursed her lips, then withdrew her gaze and turned to leave.

Shen Shu looked up at Hu Xianwei, “Grandpa.”

“Let’s talk inside.” Hu Xianwei looked him up and down, and then walked towards the containment room.

This time, Shen Shu didn’t stop him, but withdrew his hand and made way.

The temperature inside the special containment room was very low, and Hu Xianwei broke out in goosebumps almost as soon as he entered.

The white mist was densely packed in every corner. Hu Xianwei walked to the side and readjusted the purification mode of the smart system. “Little Shu, what did you mean by saying Xie Yi needs to adapt? How is he?”

As soon as Hu Xianwei finished speaking, Xie Yi’s hoarse voice came from the side, “I’m fine, Professor Hu.”

As the purification mode ran, the mist outside gradually faded. Hu Xianwei looked towards the large one-way glass.

He saw Xie Yi standing inside. The hair on his forehead was soaked with sweat, his lips were pale, and layers of red scales covered half of his face. On closer inspection, the scales seemed to be breathing.

The color of his pupils was different from usual, becoming somewhat lighter. On closer inspection, the pupils vaguely tended to be vertical.

Hu Xianwei walked over quickly. “You… you succeeded?”

“If you want to confirm whether we succeeded, you might need to cooperate with me for an examination to find out, but there probably won’t be enough time.” When Xie Yi looked towards the glass, Shen Shu, who was following behind Hu Xianwei, came over and knocked on the glass. Hearing the sound, his gaze immediately focused. “But I personally feel that we succeeded, but the pollution is too heavy now.”

“You feel that you succeeded. What is the basis for this judgment?” Hu Xianwei asked.

Xie Yi didn’t answer immediately, hesitating for a rare moment. At this time, Shen Shu suddenly opened his mouth, “Because he just experienced assimilation.”

Hu Xianwei suddenly turned his head, shocked. “What?”

He pressed on, “How long did it last? How did it recover?”

“It wasn’t long, Professor Hu.” Xie Yi coughed awkwardly. “We weren’t paying attention just now, and we were attacked by that heart. Shen Shu reacted quickly, so it’s nothing serious.”

Hearing this, Hu Xianwei frowned and looked back at other places inside the glass, and then saw a black heart hanging near the bed. The tentacles growing from the edge of the heart were gathered together, and a knife was inserted into them.

“Little Shu.” Hu Xianwei said in a low voice, “Can you really control that thing?”

Hearing his words, Shen Shu looked over, but before he could open his mouth, Hu Xianwei sighed first, “Forget it, it’s useless to ask now.”

“The team has already made a decision to send you two alone to the sea fog to destroy the Rebirth Ritual you mentioned.” Hu Xianwei said.

No one was surprised by what was expected. After all, Fang Ganlang was the only one who was willing to take this gamble. Xie Yi asked, “About when?”

“Half an hour from now.” Hu Xianwei said, “The helicopter is ready and will take you to the island near the sea fog.”

Xie Yi: “Since everything is ready, then there’s no need to wait half an hour. Now…”

Hu Xianwei interrupted, “No, I need to confirm your physical condition.”

Xie Yi was stunned. “I’m fine, and half an hour probably won’t be enough, right?”

“It’s enough.” Hu Xianwei turned around. “I just want to confirm your physical condition. You don’t want to have any problems after you set off, do you?”

Xie Yi was silent for a few seconds. “Then I’ll have to trouble Professor Hu.”

“Little Shu.” Hu Xianwei said, “Don’t stay here, come out with me first.”

Shen Shu glanced at Xie Yi, and then followed Hu Xianwei out of the special containment room.

As soon as the two of them left the metal door, they saw Jiang Li running over with the protective suit and safe box.

    Jiang Li: “Teacher!”

Hu Xianwei was stunned for a moment when he saw her, but quickly came back to his senses. “You came at the right time. Little Li, contact and arrange for two people to go to the warehouse and bring over the TS0 Dissociation Treatment Chamber.”

“TS0? Why do you suddenly need this?” Jiang Li paused, and quickly reacted. “Is there something wrong with Xie Yi?”

Hu Xianwei signaled her to be calm. “He’s fine, but I want to confirm his situation.”

Jiang Li wanted to say something else, but she held back, put down the things, and immediately contacted people.

The TS0 Dissociation Treatment Chamber was quickly brought over. Jiang Li saw Xie Yi standing inside the glass at the door. He was still a human, which really relieved her.

Although she knew that Hu Xianwei usually operated TS0 by himself, Jiang Li hesitated for a moment and asked, “Teacher, should I stay and help you?”

Hu Xianwei said, “No, I’m enough here.”

Hearing the expected refusal, Jiang Li still lowered her eyes with some disappointment, but then she heard Hu Xianwei say again, “I still need you to do me a favor.”

Hearing this, Jiang Li looked at him.

“Help me send Shen Shu to the temporary helipad on the top floor of the main team building first.” Hu Xianwei said, “I can finish here in at most ten minutes. After you get there, wait there. After Xie Yi goes up, send the helicopter away before coming back.”

    Jiang Li: “Teacher…”

Hu Xianwei waved his hand, and then gestured to Shen Shu. “Little Shu, go.”

Shen Shu, who had been silent, paused for a few seconds before looking away from him. “Then I’ll go, Grandpa.”

Hu Xianwei stood at the door and watched them leave, and only turned around and entered the containment room after they were out of sight.

    Twenty minutes later.

After Jiang Li looked at the time no less than a hundred times, she finally saw a white figure push the door open and walk in.

“Xie Yi!” Jiang Li was overjoyed and immediately greeted him, grabbed him, and looked him up and down. “How are you? Did Teacher say anything after he checked you?”

“I’m fine, other than the pollution being a bit high, I couldn’t be more normal.” Xie Yi smiled.

The roar of the helicopter starting up slowly sounded from behind, gradually covering up the sound of artillery fire coming from afar.

Xie Yi looked up, and then raised his hand and patted Jiang Li on the shoulder. “I’m going over. Go down quickly. It’s not safe outside now. Go into the underground city with Professor Hu as soon as possible.”

After speaking, he brushed past Jiang Li and walked towards the helicopter.

“Xie Yi!” Jiang Li looked at his receding back and suddenly shouted loudly. When he turned around to look over, her voice didn’t stop. “You must come back alive! Don’t forget, you said that when everything is over, you’ll treat You Xue and me to drinks!”
