Chapter 5 You Are Not Qualified

Sheng Yiguang went downstairs, thinking that he couldn’t let the matter rest, so he turned back, intending to explain Sheng Tong’s situation to Pei Du.

What if he could save his job?

He had just walked halfway when he encountered Zhang Yang.

Zhang Yang gloated, “Wandering around here, trying to keep your job?”

    “Move aside.”

Zhang Yang refused to budge. “Although I look down on people like you, I’d still be sad to see you go. After all, you’re one of the few in the entire design department who can compete with me.”

“Do I need you to think highly of me?”

“Oh, right, you don’t. You only need those big bosses to think highly of you, then go up and shake your ass and wiggle your waist. I know you look cold, but you’re actually very slutty. That kind is the most popular. I’m sometimes quite envious of you, having a good-looking appearance is so convenient. Too bad, this big boss isn’t into that.”

Sheng Yiguang threw two words at him.

    “Moron.”

Zhang Yang was furious. “Sheng Yiguang, I advise you to quickly pack your things and get out of the company, don’t be a nuisance! If you go out now, you can still make the afternoon shift selling your ass!”

    “What’s all the commotion?”

The sudden voice abruptly interrupted the intense conflict.

A tall and slender man approached, his presence extremely strong.

Unlike the casual indifference Sheng Yiguang had seen in him since their reunion, he was now serious and composed, standing there like a high mountain, creating a kind of oppression that could not be ignored.

“I heard you talking from over there. What’s your name?”

Zhang Yang was momentarily overwhelmed by Pei Du’s aura, then realized that this was probably the big boss who had decided to fire Sheng Yiguang.

If he was firing Sheng Yiguang, he definitely didn’t like Sheng Yiguang!

    He immediately announced his name.

“Zhang Yang, from the design department.”

“With your ability to talk, it’s a waste for you to be in the design department.”

Zhang Yang demurred, “No, no, you’re too kind.”

Pei Du turned to the secretary and said, “Fire him.”

    Zhang Yang: ???

Pei Du’s gaze lightly fell on Sheng Yiguang.

“He insulted you so many times, and you only said ‘moron’?”

“…” He wasn’t very good at cursing.

Pei Du: “He’s a good workhorse, let him fill in the gap in the design department.”

    Sheng Yiguang: “…”

    Was this human language?

The fact that the job he’d lost had inexplicably returned didn’t make him all that happy.

    The secretary responded, “Yes.”

Zhang Yang panicked. “Aren’t you going to fire Sheng Yiguang? I’m very capable, how can you fire me?”

“Are you teaching me how to do things?”

    “…No, I wouldn’t dare.”

Pei Du: “Don’t be a nuisance, go catch your afternoon shift in your understanding.”

With that, he lifted his foot and left.

The secretary following behind Pei Du hesitated slightly.

Logically speaking, as Pei Du’s personal secretary, his authority was even higher than an assistant, and he didn’t need to pay attention to an ordinary employee of a newly acquired small company.

He had been with General Manager Pei for three years.

General Manager Pei’s personality was consistent inside and out. He liked what he liked, and hated what he hated. He wasn’t someone with honeyed words and a dagger in his heart.

Sheng Yiguang was the first, and only person, who made General Manager Pei’s words, attitude, and behavior contradict each other.

Even if he were slow, he could sense that this ordinary employee was not ordinary to General Manager Pei.

The secretary secretly noted Sheng Yiguang’s appearance and name, gave him a slight nod, greeted him, and then followed Pei Du away.

Zhang Yang was choked with anger.

The words Sheng Yiguang wanted to explain stuck in his throat, and there was no need to explain. He took a few steps, remembered that Pei Du had just said he couldn’t curse, and turned back, returning the original words to Zhang Yang.

“I’d be very sad to see you go.”

Zhang Yang’s face turned red with anger.

Sheng Yiguang returned to the office area and continued to work on his task.

Before long, Zhang Yang returned looking dejected to pack his things.

Sun Mo nudged Sheng Yiguang with his elbow, his big eyes full of gossip.

    “What’s the situation?”

“He cursed and was heard by the big boss, the big boss fired him, and then let me take his place.”

Sun Mo burst out laughing on the spot, exclaiming that it was deserved.

Zhang Yang glared at him several times.

Sun Mo not only didn’t restrain himself, but laughed even louder.

Zhang Yang left, Sheng Yiguang stayed, and everyone in the office area was very happy.

“Luckily it was Zhang Yang who left, otherwise he would definitely use his seniority to pressure me to complete his work for him in the future.”

“I’ve also been harmed by him, he created a mess and made me take the blame!”

“How about we have a dinner after work? We’ll go Dutch, to celebrate not being fired.”

    “Okay, okay.”

The dinner was decided, and the restaurant was chosen.

Sheng Yiguang, thinking of Sheng Tong, didn’t want to go. Several people came to persuade him, even their design department manager wanted to go, and Sheng Yiguang had no choice but to nod.

Before getting off work, Sheng Yiguang sent a message to Teacher Zhou, asking him to tell Sheng Tong that he would be home later tonight.

Teacher Zhou: [Do you have a social engagement?]

    Sheng Yiguang: [Yes]

Teacher Zhou: [Will it be very late? Do you mind if I go to your house? I can help you watch Tongtong]

    Sheng Yiguang hesitated.

Tongtong was very sensible and independent, and it was no problem for him to stay alone.

But recently, because of the layoffs, the entire company was working hard, and he was also busy with work, and had been neglecting Tongtong somewhat.

Most importantly, he didn’t know what time he would be home tonight.

After weighing the pros and cons, Sheng Yiguang replied.

    [Please ask Tongtong]

The child’s thoughts were the most important.

After a while, Teacher Zhou sent a voice message, it was Tongtong’s voice.

“Brother! I want Teacher Zhou to stay with me!”

Sheng Yiguang replied: [Then I’ll have to trouble Teacher Zhou, I’ll treat you to dinner next time]

    Teacher Zhou: [You’re welcome]

Sheng Yiguang exited the chat page with Zhou Zibai, thought for a while and clicked on Pei Du’s WeChat, and sent a message.

    [Thank you]

    The message was successfully sent.

    He hadn’t been deleted.

When the design department people went out in a large group, Zhao Xicai spotted them.

“Your wife took them out to dinner.”

Pei Du heard this and raised his eyes, his gaze slowly following the figure as pure as a crane.

    Zhao Xicai: “Aren’t you going?”

    “I wasn’t invited.”

The driver started the car, the car slowly drove onto the main road and picked up speed.

Zhao Xicai played with his phone and said casually, “That’s right, if you went, they wouldn’t be able to enjoy their drinks.”

    “Turn around.”

    Zhao Xicai: ???

    “What are you doing?”

    “Follow them.”

Zhao Xicai laughed, “You said it yourself, you weren’t invited, why are you following them?”

“To prevent someone from going crazy from drinking.”

    “Afraid they’ll hurt your wife?”

    No.

He was afraid Sheng Yiguang would hook up with someone and sleep with them.

The car followed to outside the barbecue restaurant, and Pei Du got out of the car.

“Leave the car for me, you guys take a taxi back.”

    Zhao Xicai: ???

Zhao Xicai leaned out of the car window and shouted, “Look in my eyes! Why?! Tell me baby! Answer me!!!”

Pei Du didn’t turn his head, “Who’s your baby.”

Zhao Xicai was choked with anger.

    Fine!

    You kid.

In any option related to his wife, he had never hesitated!

Pei Du slowly strolled to the barbecue restaurant and ran into the design department people.

The general manager reacted quickly, after being surprised, he immediately invited Pei Du to join the dinner.

Pei Du looked at the general manager and smiled, seeming very easy to talk to.

    He didn’t look over.

But Sheng Yiguang already felt uncomfortable.

He retreated to the back of the crowd, trying to reduce his presence, and looked for a chance to sit in a position further away from Pei Du.

He didn’t succeed, the general manager called him to sit closer.

The manager had his own intentions.

The person who was originally going to be laid off went to see General Manager Pei and was retained.

Even if they hadn’t known each other before, he must have been appreciated this afternoon.

It wouldn’t be wrong for him to give Sheng Yiguang a hand.

Sheng Yiguang had no choice but to sit closer.

After sitting down, he deliberately avoided looking at Pei Du.

Pei Du’s arrival made everyone feel restrained.

The moment he sat there, the entire barbecue restaurant seemed inadequate. When the dishes were served, the owner frequently looked at Pei Du, seemingly wondering why such a wealthy and important figure would condescend to come to their store. When serving the dishes, he was even more careful, fearing to offend this distinguished guest.

Even more careful than the proprietress was the general manager.

He introduced the people in the design department to Pei Du one by one, like reading off a list of dishes, and finally arrived at Sheng Yiguang.

“You should have seen this one today, let me formally introduce him, Sheng Yiguang, although he’s only been with the company for two years, most of our company’s top ten best-selling products were designed by him.”

Pei Du’s gaze followed the voice, and in full view of everyone, lightly fell on Sheng Yiguang.

Sheng Yiguang stood up, extended his hand, and performed the necessary workplace formalities.

“Pleased to meet you, General Manager Pei.”

    “Really? I’m also very pleased.”

Pei Du extended his hand, his palm fitting against Sheng Yiguang’s, and shook his hand lightly.

Sheng Yiguang tried his best to ignore the temperature being transmitted, and subconsciously wanted to pull his hand back. But the strength of the grip suddenly increased by two points, clenching his hand tightly, preventing him from moving.

Sheng Yiguang’s breathing slightly stagnated, and he looked up at Pei Du.

But he didn’t change his expression and let go of his hand, as if what had just happened was just Sheng Yiguang’s illusion.
