    Chapter 22 Mind Reading

Mian returned to his sleeping chambers, feeling depressed alone for a while. Remembering Mori’s warning at The Gemstone Tavern today, he felt a surge of anxiety.

He hesitated for a moment, then decided that the bigger picture was more important. He would temporarily set aside his personal feelings and go discuss leaving with Kairis.

Thinking this, Mian arrived at the entrance of Kairis’s chambers, only to be told he was absent. He then went to the Royal Study to look for him.

    He still couldn’t find him.

…He inexplicably went outside the Royal Palace to bring him back, and then, without a word, disappeared somewhere.

    This person was truly unreasonable.

Mian had actually been slightly less angry because Kairis had proactively left the Royal Palace to find him and helped him out of a difficult situation.

But this new disappearance made him even angrier.

In a fit of pique, Mian decided to wait right outside Kairis’s chambers until he returned.

There was a long, large sofa in the corridor of the chambers, big enough for many people.

The first time he put on shoes was right here, and now he sat here waiting again.

While waiting, he could also think about what he should say and how he should say it when he finally saw Kairis.

But perhaps the sofa was too soft and comfortable, because Mian drifted off to sleep while he was thinking.

…He slept for quite a long time, making several maids in the corridor nervous. They wanted to approach several times to see if this mysterious noble guest was merely asleep or had passed out.

He slept until the lamps were lit at dusk, and Kairis finally returned under the cover of night.

Most of the lights in the corridor had been extinguished, and the servants had returned to their rooms to rest and await orders. Kairis seemed to have just finished his work, a hint of fatigue visible between his brows.

As he passed the sofa, he saw a Little Dragon covered with a thin blanket, sleeping soundly.

Sasha was dutifully standing guard beside Mian.

Kairis gestured toward the person lying on the sofa and asked, “What happened?”

Sasha bowed respectfully and said, “Prince, Young Master Mian has been waiting here for you to return. He waited all afternoon.”

Kairis paused at the words, his gaze falling upon Mian’s deeply sleeping face.

For some reason, he recalled the sight of this person standing at his door last night, looking frightened and saying he didn’t dare sleep alone.

    So pitiful.

After a moment of silence, he stepped forward, bent slightly, and lifted the person into his arms.

Sasha was already somewhat accustomed to such scenes. After a brief pause, he moved to open Mian’s room door nearby, making it easier for the Prince to put him inside.

He had barely taken a step when he was stopped.

    “Open my door,” Kairis said.

His tone was quite calm when he said this, as if he wasn’t taking someone into his own room to sleep, but merely intending to open a window for fresh air.

Sasha nodded, his expression composed, yet he turned around stiffly, walked to Kairis’s room door, pushed it open for him, and watched as the Prince carried the sleeping Mian into the room with steady steps. His years of trained composure almost failed him.

When Mian woke up, he realized he wasn’t in his own room.

…It seemed this wasn’t the first time this had happened.

    This was Kairis’s room again.

He sat up, staring blankly at the painting hanging opposite the bed for a moment, wondering if his memory was somehow confused.

Did he come to find Kairis to sleep with him yesterday?

Or… was everything that happened yesterday just a dream, and he hadn’t actually gone to find Miya yet?

Mian paused, instinctively turning around, following the reaction he had upon waking up yesterday, and looked at the other side of the bed.

As expected, Kairis was not in bed; the space beside him was empty.

What was unexpected, however, was that the other person who should have been lying beside the bed hadn’t vanished as he had yesterday. Instead, he was sitting on a sofa not far away, casually reading a book.

It was a very thick book. From Mian’s angle, the pages were filled with dense, incomprehensible characters.

Perhaps hearing the rustle of the quilt and fabric, Kairis shifted his gaze from the book to Mian.

“You’re awake?” he asked casually, yet subtly straightened his posture.

Mian stared blankly for a moment, then posed a question from the depths of his soul: “…Why am I here?”

After a brief recollection, he remembered that he had fallen asleep yesterday while sulking and waiting for Kairis to return.

The last thing he remembered seeing before falling asleep was the ceiling and chandelier of the castle corridor.

So why was he in Kairis’s chambers… Did he sleepwalk at night?

“When I returned yesterday, I saw you in the corridor.” Kairis paused, seemingly considering how to explain. “Sasha said you were waiting for me.”

    Mian was speechless.

He was clearly angry, but why did Sasha’s explanation make it sound like he had deliberately waited for Kairis until he fell asleep?

And even if that were the case, why did Kairis bring him to his room?

He hadn’t said he wanted to be with him.

…Kairis didn’t misunderstand that he waited for him because he still wanted to sleep with him, did he?

Thinking this, Mian felt the sky outside the window darken several degrees.

He instantly felt the powerlessness of punching cotton, so he flopped back onto the bed, pulled the blanket over his face, and decided he didn’t want to face the world anymore.

“Are you still sleeping?” Kairis’s voice sounded from outside the blanket a moment later.

It was a purely straightforward question, but Mian, who was still fuming, somehow heard a teasing undertone.

He angrily threw off the blanket and sat up, declaring, “I’m not sleeping!”

Kairis nodded. “If you’re not sleeping, get up and get ready.”

    Mian was confused.

Only then did he notice that Kairis was already fully dressed—and his clothes were quite different from usual.

He wore a white silk shirt on his upper body, with a high collar that covered half his neck. Layers of fabric partially covered a crisp, dark purple outer jacket embroidered with delicate patterns. A subtle yet luxurious purple gemstone adorned the collar. On his lower body, he wore black trousers with a silver-adorned sash, making him appear tall and long-legged.

He was still very handsome, but he looked less like a member of the Royal Family and more like a young, elegant noble gentleman.

“Where… where are we going?” Mian asked instinctively, still dazed.

“The market,” Kairis replied. “It’s today. Do you want to go?”

    Mian gasped.

He scrambled out of bed, his lingering anger instantly thrown to the wind. “Yes, I want to go!”

After Mian got ready and boarded the carriage, he noticed something was off.

“…Where is Loria?” Seeing only Kairis sitting inside the carriage compartment, Mian paused.

“She has an exam today,” Kairis said calmly, setting down his teacup. “I believe I mentioned it last time.”

    Mian was confused.

So today, it was just the two of them?

Kairis seemed to read his mind. “Yes, just the two of us.”

    Mian was speechless.

He suddenly felt a little nervous.

Did Kairis realize he wanted to go to the market, so he specially accompanied him out for fun?

“I am accompanying you specially,” Kairis’s voice sounded again, giving him an affirmative answer.

    “…”

Mian began to suspect that he had spoken his thoughts aloud.

He looked at Kairis and asked seriously, “Do you read minds?”

Kairis curved his lips, a hint of a smile escaping his eyes.

“You are too easy to read,” he said.

Mian felt a little embarrassed and annoyed by the comment. He got into the carriage. “Then guess what I’m thinking right now.”

“‘Why is he doing this?’ Is that it?”

    “…”

Kairis looked at his expression and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Did I guess correctly?”

    Mian remained silent.

“There’s no particular reason, it just happens that I don’t have much State Affairs today,” Kairis answered.

In truth, he had spent the entire previous day handling everything that needed to be done, specifically clearing his schedule.

“…Oh,” Mian responded dryly after a moment of silence.

Although Kairis had been a little annoying these past few days… now, he seemed a bit better.

Regardless, he had specially accompanied him out to play today.

So Mian began to hesitate about whether he should continue being angry.

“Are you still unhappy?” Just as he was thinking, Kairis spoke again.

Sitting in the gently swaying carriage, Mian suddenly had the illusion that he had nowhere to hide.

At the same time, an absurd thought arose in his mind.

Could Kairis… have actually noticed that he was unhappy, and accompanied him out today just to appease him?

Although the term “appease” felt a little awkward.

But Mian couldn’t think of a more suitable word for the moment.

Thinking this, Mian slightly shifted his gaze. “No, I’m not unhappy.”

    “That’s good,” Kairis said.

    He’s quite easy to appease.

He thought, looking at the Little Dragon’s slightly reddened ear tips across from him.
