Seeing that Lu Bai didn’t answer, Zhang Xiaotian directly put the headphones on the table: “School will be over in a while.”

“Okay.” Lu Bai picked up the headphones from the table and put them directly on his ears.

After listening to two songs, Zhang Xiaotian felt that he was more efficient, so he finished all the remaining questions in one go. He looked up and looked at the time. There were still two minutes before school was over. Zhang Xiaotian looked at tomorrow’s class schedule, picked out a few books and put them in his bag, and then sat at the table to get ready for school. Looking across his side, he saw Lu Bai struggling with a question as if he suddenly felt energetic, so he looked at it for a while. Lu Bai turned the pen on his fingertips very fast, and rubbed his forehead with his other hand. From time to time, he would write two strokes on the calculation paper. Then, as if suddenly enlightened, he would rush to the table and write furiously. Zhang Xiaotian watched him immersed in writing, and suddenly thought that if he could successfully stay in class one this time, it would mean that he would still be his deskmate with Lu Bai.

I still see him noisy like this every day, maybe we can have dinner together if we have a chance. Zhang Xiaotian thought about it carefully and thought it was pretty good.

    “Xiaotian! Here!”

When he walked to the school gate, he didn’t see his mother. After waiting for a while, there was no sign of her. Zhang Xiaotian originally planned to walk back by himself, but suddenly he heard someone calling him. Looking around, I saw a familiar-looking woman sitting in a car a few steps away. She seemed to be my mother’s subordinate.

Zhang Xiaotian went over, and the woman got out of the car and opened the door for Zhang Xiaotian: “Your mother asked me to pick you up. The company is busy today, so I have to go back as soon as I drop you home.”

“Thank you.” Zhang Xiaotian sat in the back seat and said after the woman sat back in the driver’s seat.

“Why are you so polite to Aunt Wang?” Aunt Wang smiled heartily and drove away from the school. When he returned home, the room was dark. Zhang Xiaotian raised his hand to touch the switch on the wall. It took him a long time to find it. The light clicked on, and the light illuminated the living room, which had no furnishings, making it look even more empty. This is the house where his parents lived before they divorced. It is now in his mother’s name. Zhang Xiaotian has lived here from birth to the third grade of elementary school. Zhang Xiaotian didn’t stay in the living room for long. He packed up the clothes left on the sofa in the morning, turned off the lights in the living room and went back to his room, intending to take out the books he brought back and read them. As soon as he opened it, the cell phone placed aside vibrated twice.

Zhang Xiaotian picked it up and saw that it was a friend request. The remark was…your dear model deskmate?

Zhang Xiaotian couldn’t help but laugh, clicked OK, put his phone aside, and started studying again. It wasn’t until I finished reading one subject that my phone received a new message reminder.

My deskmate, I can’t find my math paper. Could you please see if it’s at your place?

Posted another “Are you there?” emoticon.

Zhang Xiaotian rummaged through his schoolbag and replied: No.

Lu Bai should be by his cell phone at this moment, and he replied quickly: He may have missed school, and you have to lend me a copy tomorrow.

Zhang Xiaotian replied with a “hmm” and looked at another “clap fist” message over there, so he didn’t say anything else and continued to read the next subject.

At half past ten, when Zhang Xiaotian went to the living room to drink water, Xiaotian’s mother finally returned home and collapsed on the sofa as soon as she entered the room. Zhang Xiaotian originally wanted to go back to the room directly, but after thinking about it, he walked back and poured another glass of water and put it on the coffee table next to the sofa.

“You didn’t wait too long at the school gate tonight.” Mom sat up. He picked up the water glass and took a sip.

“No, Aunt Wang is on time.” Zhang Xiaotian stood by with his eyes lowered, waiting for her to finish drinking the water, and then took the water cup away. As soon as he walked to the sink, he heard his mother say again: “You said you didn’t need to deliver meals during the day, I thought about it.”

Zhang Xiaotian looked back at her, waiting for her to finish speaking.

“You are old too. I believe you will not ignore your body.” Mom paused and then said, “It’s okay to go out to eat. The school doesn’t allow you to bring mobile phones. I will leave some cash for you every month.”

“Okay.” Zhang Xiaotian nodded. After washing the cups and putting them away, he was about to go back to the room when his mother called him again:

“But, Xiaotian,” my mother tapped the word “bang bang” twice on the glass coffee table, “you know, my mother didn’t care about you before. That was because she thought your father would treat you well. Now she no longer brings you food. It was you who told me that you could go back to class early to study early, so my mother met your request. Mom respects your personal opinions very much, and she takes you as the priority in everything, so you can’t treat your mother like you treat your father.”

    Zhang Xiaotian was stunned: “What…”

“Mom knows that she did something wrong before, but now she is trying her best to make up for you! You said that your current learning resources and living environment are not better than before? But you can’t always get close to your mother. It hurts my heart!” Mom looked very tired and irritable, and pinched her brows hard. “I don’t ask you to be grateful, but you have to have a good face. You can’t get along with your mother now, so how can you let your mother take you there with confidence in the future?”

Zhang Xiaotian looked at his mother steadily.

Where to take? Her home over there?

If you want to live there, what’s the difference between living at dad’s house?

“You know I’m here just to take you away.” Mom was still saying, “Mom is old and in bad health, so it’s impossible for her to have another child. You are her only child, and I will have to rely on you to support her in the future…”

The phone rang suddenly. Mom picked it up and looked at it. She waved her hand to Zhang Xiaotian, got up and walked to the balcony to answer the phone.

Zhang Xiaotian watched his mother answer the phone on the balcony and turned back to the room.
