    Chapter 11 Past Events

Sun Mo strategically drank water and didn’t mention Pei Du again, instead asking:

“With a top student like you, didn’t all your high school classmates try every means to suck up to you?”

    “No.”

“Huh? Didn’t you have any friends?”

“I used to, but we broke up later.”

    “Why?”

    “Because of Pei Du.”

    “…” Damn it.

There was no escaping this topic.

Sometimes life really throws at you what you talk about.

A new project required IP collaboration, and the design department manager brought Sheng Yiguang and Sun Mo to a social event. It just so happened that high school classmates they hadn’t seen in four years were at the dinner table.

The manager was delighted to hear they were classmates.

“What a coincidence! Why don’t we handle this IP? Don’t worry, we’ll design it beautifully for you.”

Sun Mo, seeing the mockery in the other party’s eyes, knew they weren’t well-intentioned. Unable to stop himself, he picked up his wine glass, trying to smooth things over.

Du Chao smiled, pressing down on Sun Mo’s glass, and looked at Sheng Yiguang, “Old classmate, we haven’t seen each other in so many years, shouldn’t you have a drink with me?”

Sheng Yiguang knew he couldn’t avoid it today, so he picked up his glass, tilted his head back, and drank it.

They were drinking strong white liquor.

The liquor burned fiercely as it went down his throat.

Du Chao refilled Sheng Yiguang’s glass, “I didn’t expect such a coincidence today, toasting to our reunion?”

    Sheng Yiguang didn’t move.

Du Chao said with a smile, “What? You’re not even willing to reminisce? Then it seems you’re not very sincere about this IP.”

Sheng Yiguang drank it all in one gulp, showing Du Chao the empty glass.

    “Of course, I am sincere.”

Du Chao shouted “Good!” and turned to call out to another classmate.

“Zhou Weian, come on, we’re all classmates, you should also toast Sheng Yiguang.”

Even the manager, as clueless as he was, could see that this was a deliberate attempt to get him drunk. He tried to stop them but was pushed aside by Du Chao.

Du Chao smiled, putting his arm around Sheng Yiguang’s shoulder.

“You guys don’t know, this classmate of mine is particularly good at reading the wind and steering the rudder. Four years ago, he had a boyfriend he was very close to. As soon as something happened to the guy’s family, he ran faster than anyone! If this IP is handed over to you, you won’t stab me in the back, will you?”

The table fell silent, and the gazes from the opposite company instantly turned strange.

It was the same four years ago.

As his and Pei Du’s mutual friends, they didn’t believe he would abandon Pei Du, offering advice, questioning, and scolding. In the end, they were utterly disappointed in him and left one after another.

The news spread, and for a long time, no one spoke to Sheng Yiguang.

Sheng Yiguang became a wandering soul, drifting alone on campus, living mechanically.

    The manager was sweating profusely.

How come there was gossip involved?

The alcohol was taking effect, and Sheng Yiguang felt a little dizzy, forcing a faint smile.

“Sun always jokes. We’re sitting here because we value your company’s IP. Business is business, leveraging advantages for profit. If we don’t talk about private affairs, how can we talk about stabbing in the back? Sun always says that, does he lack confidence in his own company’s IP and feel it can’t make money? Then why don’t you let us have two more points?”

    Du Chao’s face turned cold.

Zhou Weian tugged at Du Chao, “Pei ge already said not to make trouble, that’s enough.”

Du Chao shook him off, “Enough what? Back then, he and Pei Du were so close, we were all waiting to drink their wedding wine! As soon as something happened, everyone was helping, but what about him? He was busy cutting ties! Cold-hearted and callous, are you even human?”

“Pei Du too, has to hang himself on Sheng Yiguang’s tree! They already broke up, and I heard that when he got sick, he ran over and was caught by the creditors, beaten and hospitalized. If Wen Heng hadn’t shown up, Pei Du would have died long ago!”

Sheng Yiguang’s face turned pale, and his mind went blank.

    Beaten by creditors?

    How could that be?!

“Let me tell you, Sheng Yiguang, if you think I’m going to give you the IP, dream on! And don’t even think about coming back! Pei ge has Wen Heng by his side now!”

Du Chao finished speaking and strode away.

The others exchanged glances, and in twos and threes, got up and followed him out.

Only the manager, Sun Mo, and Sheng Yiguang remained in the private room.

Sheng Yiguang slowly turned around, looking at the manager, “I’m sorry, I lost this IP because of my issues. I’ll bring back an even better one. It won’t delay the project’s progress.”

Manager: “That’s not urgent, you look terrible, are you okay?”

“I’m fine, I’ll go to the restroom, manager, you guys should go back first.”

Not bothering to see the reaction of the manager and Sun Mo, Sheng Yiguang mechanically walked out.

Du Chao had no reason to lie.

Four years ago, after Pei Du’s parents died, the debts secured by loans were placed on Pei Du’s shoulders.

Pei Du’s friends and classmates were all trying to help, the rich gave money, and those without money gave effort.

At that time, the comments said:

[The creditors who learned of the death of Pei Du’s parents are about to come to block the door! Those people are really scary, if you have money they take money, if you don’t have money they pull people to sell their organs! In order not to implicate Sheng Yiguang, Pei Du will say breakup, kick people away, then lock the door and cry]

[Who is writing this plot? I can’t watch it!]

[It’s okay, a month later, our little sun will appear to heal Pei Du! Not only does it bring the good news that Pei Du is the abandoned grandson of a wealthy family, but it also appears when Pei Du is beaten by creditors, otherwise Pei Du’s life would be gone]

[Pei Du, your good fortune is in the back]

    ……

    One month.

Pei Du had to suffer for a month before he could wait for Wen Heng.

    Too long.

Sheng Yiguang slowly climbed up, knocked on Pei Du’s door, helped him clean up the things in the house, and gathered all the valuables together.

No one spoke, the only sound in the house was the sound of tidying things, which made it even more silent.

After packing up, Sheng Yiguang wiped clean Pei Du’s family photo and said slowly, “Pei Du, there should be many people coming to ask for money afterward, those people might get violent, so, let’s break up.”

Pei Du was stunned, looked up at him, and after a long time, lowered his eyes, his voice hoarse.

    “Okay.”

    Without any obstruction.

    He proposed it.

    He agreed.

So, just like the comments said, Pei Du had the idea of breaking up, otherwise, how could he have agreed so quickly.

    The goal was achieved.

But Sheng Yiguang was reluctant to leave.

The house fell into dead silence.

    So quiet, so quiet.

In the end, Pei Du spoke first.

    “Go, before those people come.”

Only then did Sheng Yiguang get up and leave, not daring to look back.

He was afraid to see Pei Du looking at him, afraid to see Pei Du’s eyes.

Because the comments said, Pei Du was crying.

Leaving Pei Du’s home, Sheng Yiguang sorted out Pei Du’s habits and preferences, and went to find Wen Heng.

    “Who are you looking for?”

“Looking for you, I know you don’t know me, but I have a very good opportunity to give you. The richest man in Lingang, Pei Lao’s long lost son from more than twenty years ago has passed away. He left a child named Pei Du, who is Pei Lao’s grandson. If you go to him, both Pei Du and the Pei family will be grateful to you.”

Wen Heng was puzzled, “Why are you letting me do such a good thing?”

“I’m just a child from an ordinary family, I can’t get close to someone like Pei Lao.” Sheng Yiguang pushed over a notebook, “And he’s in great difficulty now, I don’t have the ability to protect him, I hope you go to him now, don’t let him suffer, take him home, take good care of him.”

Wen Heng took the notebook, “I can promise you, but I want to know, what are you to him?”

    Sheng Yiguang did not hide.

    “Ex-boyfriend, don’t worry, we’ve already broken up.”

Wen Heng opened the notebook, “I see, no wonder you know him so well. Don’t worry, I’ll arrange for someone to go over now. You came all this way, you must be tired, I’ll transfer you 30,000 as a thank you, okay?”

    Sheng Yiguang wanted to refuse.

But Wen Heng grabbed his hand, urging him to unlock his phone, then scanned his payment code and transferred him 30,000.

    He “bought” Pei Du.

    ……

Sheng Yiguang stumbled into the restroom, went into a stall, closed the door, and fell to the ground.

He brought forward the timeline of the story by a month.

But the creditor’s beating still happened.

No wonder when Pei Du came to him a month later, his face was so pale.

With a pale face, red eyes, he smiled and told him, “Sheng Yiguang, I have money, the problem is solved, come home with me.”

“Pei Du, it seems that I didn’t make it clear that day, your family’s trouble was just an opportunity to break up. I wanted to leave you, I find you annoying.”

Pei Du’s voice was slow, “I’m annoying?”

“Yes, I’ve always misunderstood my feelings, thinking I liked you, but actually not. I hate your time more than I like it.”

“So you sold me to someone else?”

Sheng Yiguang’s throat was dry, “You know, that’s fine, I didn’t expect you to be worth so much.”

Pei Du’s face turned even paler.

In midsummer, a group of flying insects swarmed around the light bulb under the clear yellow street lamp, unable to touch the light, but unwilling to leave the light circle, constantly bumping upwards.

“Sheng Yiguang, I can give you more than 30,000.”

Sheng Yiguang looked at Pei Du under the steps, his voice gentle.

“Pei Du, don’t be cheap, okay?”

As soon as the words came out, everything around was eerily quiet.

The summer breeze that blew was no longer refreshing and cheerful, but only felt heavy.

    ……

    With a “creak”.

The door of the toilet stall was pulled open.

In sight were shiny leather shoes, and well-tailored suit pants.

Someone slowly squatted down in front of him.

    Sheng Yiguang looked up.

The person asked, “Who bullied you?”
