20 No Giving Up
This damn rain finally stopped.
Chen Mo once thought that Liang Jingren started this rain, and only Liang Jingren could tell it to stop, because the timing of the rain stopping was too good—Liang Jingren had just finished reading the book in his hand, turned his head and glanced out the window, the rain stopped, and he could go back without an umbrella.
Liang Jingren, who didn’t have an umbrella, made a point of walking to him before leaving the coffee shop and told him: “Don’t forget to take your umbrella, two of them.”
Chen Mo felt that the air conditioning in the coffee shop was too cold.
However, Chen Mo didn’t develop a fever or catch a cold the next day. The weather forecast also showed that the weather was sunny and suitable for going out today. He could only go to the interview in the morning as originally planned and go to see the apartment with the agreed-upon agent in the afternoon.
The apartment he was looking at was near Daxing Group, so when the alarm clock he had set earlier rang, Chen Mo still had plenty of time to slowly walk to Liang Jingren’s company to wait for him to get off work.
However, because the agent insisted on explaining and promoting the apartment to him, coupled with a slight deviation in the actual distance estimation, by the time Chen Mo ran to the downstairs of Liang Jingren’s company, most of the employees had already left work, and many people were sparsely starting to walk out.
The person at the front desk had already changed shifts, Chen Mo didn’t recognize them, and didn’t intend to say hello. He directly went against the crowd, walked into the almost empty elevator after everyone poured out, and pressed the third floor.
He went to the cafeteria he and Liang Jingren had gone to before, thinking that he might be able to run into him there.
But after waiting in the cafeteria for five minutes, Liang Jingren’s figure never appeared. Instead, he occupied an empty four-person table without getting any food, and was finally forced to share the table by someone carrying a plate. The other person even nodded politely to him when they sat down. Chen Mo reluctantly got up and left.
Just as he walked out of the cafeteria and was about to enter the more complex and lively snack street area on the third floor, someone suddenly called his name from behind: “Chen Mo?”
Chen Mo turned his head, and the person and a few others who were obviously colleagues were walking towards him.
“It’s the first time we’ve met since you returned to the country. I didn’t expect you to come to the cafeteria,” Shen Qing said with a smile. “If you’re not too picky, the food here is quite good. By the way, have you eaten yet?”
Chen Mo shook his head and asked directly, “I’m here to find Liang Jingren.”
Shen Qing was stunned for a moment, and then asked, as if subconsciously executing the secretary’s program code, “What do you want to see him for?”
Before Chen Mo could speak, a colleague behind Shen Qing directly interjected, “President Liang usually goes to the gym on Wednesdays!”
Chen Mo was very satisfied with this conversation. He smiled and bowed to Shen Qing and the others, and then quickly ran to the fourth floor—if he remembered correctly, the fourth floor was the gym.
Based on Liang Jingren’s efficiency-first personality, he should choose the nearest gym… right?
Sure enough, Chen Mo saw Liang Jingren jogging slowly on the treadmill in the cardio area of the gym.
Perhaps it was because he was always dressed in suits and shirts, Liang Jingren’s exposed arm muscles, wearing only a vest at the moment, were very white—compared to the big guys he saw in the weight area who were pumping their biceps, he was too white.
But in fact, Liang Jingren’s skin tone wasn’t considered white, it was a very healthy color. At this time, after exercising and being covered with a layer of misty, thin sweat, it looked particularly tempting in Chen Mo’s eyes.
—Especially the thighs of the other person wearing sports shorts, which were tight and muscular, something that wasn’t often seen even when they lived together in the Villa before. Chen Mo was greedy.
Liang Jingren kept staring out the window, completely unaware of the changes in the surrounding people, until Chen Mo walked over and put his hand on the handrail of the treadmill at his feet.
Seeing that Liang Jingren only glanced at him and turned his head to continue looking out the window and swinging his arms, while the data displayed on the screen of the treadmill hardly changed, Chen Mo couldn’t help but feel suffocated in his heart.
Afterwards, Chen Mo silently leaned on the treadmill handrail and played with his phone.
After about five minutes, Liang Jingren started to walk slowly.
“What are you doing here?” Finally, Liang Jingren, who was walking slowly, turned his attention back to him and asked.
If he had been asked this as soon as he arrived, Chen Mo would have said with a smile: “I’m here to visit the gym, is that okay?” But now he couldn’t smile, so he simply looked at Liang Jingren and said directly: “I’m here to find you to have dinner together.”
Liang Jingren moved his calves while maintaining a uniform pace, and calmly looked at him.
Perhaps seeing the unbreakable or irreversible persistence in his eyes, Liang Jingren compromised this time. He reached out and pressed the treadmill screen, then stopped and said, “Okay, wait for me a while.”
Chen Mo smiled.
Liang Jingren was probably thinking this in his heart: Chen Mo is nothing to be afraid of.
After Liang Jingren got off the treadmill, Chen Mo followed closely behind him—insisting on not walking beside him, only walking behind him.
Every two steps Liang Jingren took, he felt a strong gaze staring at a certain place behind him, but he couldn’t suddenly turn around and say it directly, because “feeling” was unfounded, and Chen Mo would definitely not admit it. This kid was always pretending, and he would probably say something that would choke him to death, so it was better not to invite boredom.
Liang Jingren had seen the owner of this gym when it was still under construction, and they had exchanged words with each other. After the gym opened, Liang Jingren sent two flower baskets, and the owner also listed him as a VIP and arranged an exclusive locker for him. At this time, Liang Jingren was sitting on a long chair in front of the locker drinking water.
“Aren’t you going to change your clothes?” Chen Mo stood aside and asked, “This gym is quite big, the whole floor is, there should be a shower area, right?”
Liang Jingren casually wiped the sweat off his face with a towel and said, “There are a lot of people at this time, I’ll just eat something and go back.”
Chen Mo stood beside him, his eyes silently shifting to a drop of sweat that his towel hadn’t wiped off—it was sliding straight down towards his collarbone.
Chen Mo thought to himself: tsk, too casual, it’s really unbearable to look at! But in reality, his eyes were as wide as copper bells, staring without blinking.
With a contradictory and strange feeling, he almost blurted out: “Then you should also abide by some male ethics!”
“…”
Faced with Chen Mo’s inexplicable madness, Liang Jingren couldn’t understand a bit. He only felt that his expression at the moment should be very similar to an emoji, but unfortunately he wasn’t black enough, so he could only be considered a yellow person with a question mark.
The drop of sweat disappeared into the realm of the black vest, and even though it was tight clothing, there wasn’t a trace of it.
Oh, speaking of tight…
Chen Mo secretly licked his lips, his eyes looking towards the famous “high mountain scenic area”.
Unfortunately, he didn’t see the victory mark standing on the peak.
Chen Mo was unwilling, so he boldly bent down, and then asked in a low voice:
“Um… can I touch it?”
“What?” Liang Jingren’s brow furrowed slightly.
“Uh, I mean your clothes, what material are they made of?” As he spoke, Chen Mo’s hand had already reached towards the direction of Liang Jingren’s pectoral muscles.
“Can you not be like a sexual harassing pervert?” Liang Jingren grabbed his wrist, the grip so strong that Chen Mo had no doubt that a red mark would be left on his wrist after he let go.
After Liang JingrenThrow away his hand, Chen Mo pitifully rubbed his reddened wrist, and said softly: “I just wanted to see your gym results…”
“Then just look with your eyes.” Liang Jingren said. After saying that, he paused, as if thinking of something, and then said: “No, you’d better not look.”
Chen Mo shouted in a very struck-down manner: “Too stingy!”
Liang Jingren sneered and ignored him.
“Other people are very generous!” Chen Mo wouldn’t give up, “Working out is to show it off! Most people who come to the gym have this purpose, right!”
Coincidentally, just as Chen Mo was speaking, a weightlifting big brother who came to store personal items passed by behind them. Chen Mo’s eyes lit up, and he suddenly turned his head and went over, enthusiastically praising the big brother’s muscles, seemingly trying to prove something:
“This big brother is really strong! Can I have the honor of touching your muscles?”
The big brother also seemed very surprised, but besides the surprise, he almost immediately agreed: “Sure, come on!”
As soon as he said that, the big brother had already struck a pose and showed off his bicep, which was like a durian. Seeing this, the corner of Liang Jingren’s mouth twitched, and he thought: Big brother, please don’t join in the fun…
“Wow, what big muscles, so hard, so amazing! Can I train like you in a month or two?”
“It’s impossible in a month or two! But if you find a good coach to guide you, and pay attention to your diet, half a year, I estimate you can catch up with some of my skin and flesh!”
“Then big brother, do you train with a coach? If I want to train my back and legs, are there any recommended courses? I heard that you have to eat protein powder with fitness, and you have to control your carbohydrate intake…”
Chen Mo started chatting with the big brother, or rather, Chen Mo was curious and unilaterally pestering the big brother to ask him questions and give him private science popularization. Liang Jingren was too lazy to care so much. He put his water bottle, towel and other items in the locker, picked up his mobile phone and briefcase, and left without saying hello.
Chen Mo could wait for him, but let him wait for Chen Mo? What a joke.
Ten minutes later, Chen Mo ran to the third floor and saw Liang Jingren queuing at the window to order food.
So, he very naturally performed a cutting-in-line action—
“Get in line!” Unfortunately, just as he was about to insert himself into the queue, he was elbowed out by Liang Jingren.
“Then you have to eat with me later! You have to wait for me!” Chen Mo babbled endlessly, even grabbing the arm of the person behind Liang Jingren in the queue and said: “He said he would eat with me, brother, please keep an eye on him for me, don’t let him pack it and leave.” After speaking, he turned back to Liang Jingren and said: “Look, everyone in the queue knows, you can’t break your promise!”
Liang Jingren: …Did I say anything? Didn’t you say it all?
When Chen Mo found his seat with his plate, Liang Jingren had almost finished eating.
Seeing that he was coming over with a plate, Liang Jingren wiped his mouth very quickly this time and threw the paper into a ball on the plate, saying: “Say it, what do you want to report today?”
“…”
After sitting down, Chen Mo didn’t respond, because he suddenly realized that he had forgotten to get a spoon and chopsticks, and his smile froze for a second.
Chen Mo was thinking, if he got up now, how likely would Liang Jingren be to take the opportunity to slip away?
In the end, Chen Mo decided to be honest and say directly: “I forgot to get chopsticks, I want to go get them, can you wait for me for a while? I’ll report to you as soon as I get back!”
Liang Jingren nodded.
While going to get the chopsticks, Chen Mo turned his head twice to look at the table where they were sitting—Liang Jingren, who had already finished eating, hadn’t left, and was sitting at the table looking at his phone.
Chen Mo felt mixed emotions when he turned around, and thought to himself: How can you make me give up like this…
After taking the chopsticks from the sterilizing cabinet and returning to the table, Chen Mo didn’t let Liang Jingren wait long and started reporting directly: “The job has been finalized, and I’ll start next week. I’m still looking for an apartment, but the range has been basically narrowed down, and I’ll move out of the hotel before next week, maybe on the weekend… Can you come and help then?”
“Okay.”
As soon as this word came out, Chen Mo was simply overjoyed. But then Liang Jingren added: “I’ll get someone to help you.”
Yes, his little brothers are all strong without working out, haha. Chen Mo laughed mockingly to himself in his heart twice.
“Anything else?” Liang Jingren asked.
“…Brother Ren.”
Even though Chen Mo just called him that casually at this time, Liang Jingren felt goosebumps all over his body.
Most likely because Chen Mo had gone crazy too many times recently, and there were too many strange names for him, now suddenly calling the old name with such a normal expression and tone, made him a little unaccustomed.
“I want to have dinner with you every day, can I?” Chen Mo rarely faced him in a normal state, and even used a negotiating tone.
But this request for negotiation was similar to asking him “Can I pursue you”, just in a different way, more euphemistically.
“You really don’t give up,” Liang Jingren sighed.
“If I was going to give up, I would have given up four years ago when you kicked me, tied me up, and beat me black and blue,” Chen Mo said seriously, “But even in these four years that I haven’t seen you, I haven’t given up.”
“I think of myself as quite tenacious and unyielding,” Chen Mo even bragged about himself.
Liang Jingren listened, supported his chin with one hand, tilted his head slightly towards him and smiled, and said, “I quite like this about you.”
“…!!”
Chen Mo’s heart once again throbbed wildly because hope shone in.
Liang Jingren discovered the light in his eyes, and immediately realized that he had spoken his mind too quickly, and quickly explained: “Don’t misunderstand, what I appreciate is your persistent quality.”
“Okay! I won’t abandon this wonderful quality!” Chen Mo gave a standard answer like answering a question in a public class.
Liang Jingren didn’t smile, his mouth closed, and said: “Chen Mo, don’t be paranoid.”
Excellent student Chen Mo continued to answer: “Don’t worry, I will definitely be steadfast, face difficulties head-on, and never let you down!”
Liang Jingren: “…”
If he had known, he wouldn’t have said that just now, sigh.
In the evening, Liang Jingren drove back to the Villa. Before the car was turned off, he received a call from Shen Qing.
If Shen Qing called, Liang Jingren usually wouldn’t speak first, because Shen Qing would definitely have something to look for him:
“Old Liang, I heard that you had an argument with someone in the cafeteria the day before yesterday, could it be Chen Mo? I also saw him in the cafeteria today, he said he was looking for you.”
“Yeah, I saw him.” Liang Jingren lowered the car window, took out a cigarette, and lit it immediately after speaking.
“Hey, you haven’t answered the previous question yet, did you really argue?”
“Kind of.”
Only two sentences… could that be considered an argument? Liang Jingren squinted his eyes while smoking, thinking.
“I only found out after listening to others. They said that you two seemed to have talked about Chen Daxiang, and then you started arguing.”
Hearing the three words “Chen Daxiang”, those words that made his eyes go black the day before yesterday seemed to penetrate his eardrums again in an instant. Liang Jingren couldn’t hold back. The cigarette clamped between his fingers slipped a gear, and the burning ash fell on his unexchanged sports shorts.
He could only be glad that the sparks disappeared quickly, and—fortunately, he wasn’t wearing expensive suit pants.
“What exactly did you say? Is he looking for you today for Chen Daxiang’s matter? Is it about the property division back then?”
“…Alright, stop asking.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t want to hear those three words.”
“Which three?”
“…”
“Chen Daxiang?”
“Go to hell.”
