BCGWR Chapter 39 Part 2
by BLReadsSometimes, he would secretly go out in the dawn, wearing a hat and mask under the pretext of taking a walk, to feed the stray animals. He also loved dogs so much that during his breaks, he often volunteered to walk abandoned dogs, and in all these activities, he and the other Loveis members participated.
A faint smile spread across Han Ji-su’s lips and then faded as he recalled Kang Jae-yoon, who used to take them out for walks every night to feed cats, saying, “Now that you’re also my people, we should accumulate some ‘heaven mileage’ together.”
The thought that he would have to perform all the small acts of kindness he had shared with Kang Jae-yoon by himself from now on made him unbearably sad. He took a deep breath for a moment to calm his heart.
‘Now that I think about it, the older members might be together right now…’
He imagined that by now, all the group members, his older brother Han Ji-won, and his younger brother Han Ji-yul, would all be gathered together, except for him. Since they were all good people, they must surely be living well in heaven.
Thinking of his beloved ones, Han Ji-su suddenly realized that he was truly alone now.
His chest ached with sharp pains, and the corners of his eyes stung and hurt again, but he tried hard to hold it in and not cry. If he cried any more, he felt like he would truly collapse from exhaustion. Han Ji-su needlessly cleared his throat with a cough and asked, feigning nonchalance.
“God of Rest. Give me some more hints. What kind of good deeds do the gods value highly?”
[The Patron God of Rest clicks his tongue as if he finds it irreverent. But he shrugs, saying that since good deeds are good, he will tell him. He says that the good deeds the gods primarily value highly are the desire to protect and defend the weak, and altruism.]
“…Altruism…”
As Han Ji-su mumbled, a message immediately popped up again.
[The Patron God of Rest says he will tell him the dictionary meaning of altruism if he doesn’t know it.]
“I know!”
[The Patron God of Rest scolds him, saying, ‘If you know, you know. Why are you yelling?’]
Han Ji-su pouted his lips and grumbled that he knew at least that much.
An ethical life and altruism.
He naturally knew those two things, as they were always mentioned and emphasized by the Peace Guild’s Guild Leader or Vice Guild Leader during their speeches.
This was the corporate philosophy that the Peace Guild had upheld since it was a corporation before The Cataclysm, and it remained the same when Peace Group transformed into the Peace Guild after the world changed due to The Cataclysm.
‘So, protecting and defending the weak, and living a good life, has a positive influence even after death.’
Han Ji-su, who had been staring blankly into space for a moment, slowly closed his eyes.
If that statement was true, Kang Jae-yoon must have accumulated a great deal of mileage. The moment he thought Kang Jae-yoon would be living luxuriously in heaven, a sudden image came to mind: Kang Jae-yoon sitting on a beautiful beach, wearing sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt, holding a cocktail.
“…”
Although he still couldn’t properly accept that Kang Jae-yoon had passed away, thinking of Kang Jae-yoon doing well in paradise made him feel strange, yet a little better.
[The Patron God of Rest asks what he is thinking, curious.]
“…Thinking of Jae-yoon hyung, doing well in heaven.”
His throat choked up again, but this time he swallowed hard and held back his tears. His physical strength had dropped to its limit, so if he cried any more, he might actually faint. Han Ji-su calmly steadied his quickening breath and spoke in a low voice.
“Hey, God of Rest. When will this longing to see him disappear?”
