BFET Chapter 23

Curse Gu
Sound?
Xie Yi quietly looked at him.
The surroundings, thick with the stench of blood, were extremely quiet. Apart from their shallow breathing, there were no other sounds.
“Did you hear it?” Shen Shu said softly, his eyes scanning the area, but without focusing on any particular point. “Those voices are saying…”
Xie Yi followed his gaze and noticed that he was only searching within a meter of himself.
Xie Yi’s hand touched Abyss. “Saying what?”
“I can’t hear clearly.” Shen Shu lowered his eyes, almost murmuring. “So noisy…”
Xie Yi frowned, a bad feeling inexplicably rising in his heart.
Just then, Shen Shu suddenly crouched down in front of him.
He looked down and saw Shen Shu reaching out to grab the head of a multi-legged Ghost Face that had already died.
The head, stained with black blood, revealed its rotten interior. On the left side, a slender, blood-red thing was clearly visible, drilling out. The top was split into countless wriggling tendrils.
The moment he saw this thing, Xie Yi grabbed Shen Shu’s wrist and directly severed it with Abyss, sternly saying, “Let go!”
His force was immense, and a faint red color instantly seeped out from the adhesive seams of the white bandage on his hand.
Shen Shu paid no heed. Instead, he gave a short laugh, and then actually crushed the head in his hand with his bare hands.
Black brain matter and flesh splattered, and Xie Yi almost subconsciously closed his eyes and leaned back.
When he opened his eyes again, he met Shen Shu’s gaze. “Captain, I found it.”
Shen Shu’s handsome features were filled with excitement, the corners of his eyes slightly raised. A dark green light surged deep within his pupils, fleeting so quickly that Xie Yi wondered if he had imagined it.
Faint rustling sounds came from all around, as if something was merging and surging.
Xie Yi took a deep breath, quickly checked himself and Shen Shu to make sure they hadn’t been contaminated by that thing, and then pulled Shen Shu up. “If you found it, shut up and follow me. We can’t stay here.”
Xie Yi had only seen that slender, blood-red thing once before, during a cross-city assembly mission a year ago that resulted in countless casualties, on the high-level Mutated Entity Curse Gu.
The rustling sound around them grew louder and louder, and shadows stirred in the dim moonlight.
Xie Yi kicked away a crawling corpse, dragging Shen Shu outwards.
But it was too late—
All the corpses on the ground had already reanimated.
The unrecognizable Mutated Entities seemed to be reassembling, with blood-colored, misty flowers blooming at the points of connection. The misty flowers extended tendrils that spread and grew on the corpses.
Then, the horde of corpses surged towards them.
Shen Shu followed behind Xie Yi, turning his head to look at a certain spot. His gaze was deep, cold, and focused, as if he were looking at something through the Mutated Entity corpses.
After a moment, he murmured, as if talking to himself, “I see you.”
The muttered voice flashed by. When Xie Yi heard it and looked over, Shen Shu suddenly broke free from his grip and rushed out. “Shen Shu!”
At the same time, the closest Mutated Entity corpse lunged at him.
Xie Yi dodged to the side in an instant and fired.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The bullets accurately hit each connection point on the corpse. After the blood-colored, misty flowers were shattered, the corpse scattered across the ground.
Xie Yi turned his head to look behind him. Shen Shu was already entangled with the approaching horde of corpses.
He couldn’t help but curse inwardly and rushed forward.
He held the gun with both hands, continuously sweeping it around. One magazine after another emptied, the continuous gunshots erupting, the intense gunfire sweeping the surrounding horde of corpses.
Soon, the ground was once again covered in corpses.
However, the blood-colored, misty flowers bloomed once more, and the fallen corpses reanimated again.
Xie Yi clearly felt a biting and tearing sensation rapidly emerging on his skin. The pollution concentration in the surrounding area was rising.
In his released state, his pollution resistance had already greatly increased. For such obvious pollution mutation reactions to still occur, this Curse Gu—
“Shen Shu!” Xie Yi resolved another Mutated Entity corpse that came too close with a backhand shot, and leaned towards Shen Shu, “Stop acting crazy, follow me, that’s an order!”
Shen Shu had already torn apart another Mutated Entity corpse.
The blood-colored, misty flower gathered into a long strip, climbed onto the back of his hand as he moved, and was then grabbed by him, thrown to the ground, and crushed.
Then, he tilted his head and glanced at Xie Yi, expressionless. “Captain, don’t get in my way.”
The color of his eyes had turned pale at some point, and the skin of his jaw had become somewhat transparent, with mottled golden patterns floating inside, like flowing light or starlight, making his handsome face enchanting and cold.
Xie Yi’s heart sank. He was mutating.
The reassembled horde of corpses gradually surrounded them again.
Xie Yi raised his hand and shattered another corpse with a few shots, but his eyes were fixed on Shen Shu, who had already turned his back and was once again entangled with the horde of corpses, slowly moving towards him.
The noisy murmurs in his ears were now appearing and disappearing, sometimes clear and sometimes blurry, but it was the clearest Shen Shu had ever heard the sound.
What exactly was it?
Suddenly, a sharp wind attacked from behind. Shen Shu tilted his head, quickly kicked away a corpse that was lunging at him, and then sideways grabbed a hand, imprisoning the owner of the hand in his arms as he completely turned around.
“What do you want to do?” Shen Shu lowered his head slightly, close to Xie Yi’s ear, his voice as soft as a lover’s whisper, “Hmm? Xie Yi?”
