Sudden Occurrence

After each replenishing their strength and resting briefly, Xie Yi and the others took advantage of the approaching dusk, heading in the direction indicated by the dedicated guide.

Within a high-danger Enclosed Zone, there is no distinction between pollution source points, central zones, or mid-section zones. The pollution concentration in the zone is extremely closely related to the activities of various Mutated Entities.

It is no exaggeration to say that, except for a small area on the periphery affected by the Gigawhale launcher, where Mutated Entities subconsciously avoid, other places are their highly active areas. Xie Yi dodged a worm-like Mutated Entity that sprang out of the bushes. As he fired back, several more gunshots rang out behind him.

He turned around and saw Shen Shu holding a gun aimed behind him, where a pile of giant leeches with their brains blown out lay dead.

Across a distance, Xie Yi saw Shen Shu say something to him without making a sound: Captain, be careful.

The closer they got to the depths of the Enclosed Zone, the more Mutated Entities were active around them, and the changes in their tiers became obvious. They started with only mid-tier creatures, but high-tier Mutated Entities began to appear frequently.

“Are we almost there?” Shang Mengzhou leaned towards Xie Yi.

Xie Yi pulled Abyss from the Mutated Entity’s corpse, shook his hand, and then took out the dedicated guide to check. “We’re already within the coordinates displayed on the guide.”

“Generally, the members of the contact point wouldn’t kill directly like us; they would avoid if possible.” Xie Yi looked around; the ground was covered with a pile of Mutated Entity corpses they had just cleared.

“Avoiding is only possible if you can avoid it,” Shang Mengzhou said, then suddenly nudged Xie Yi. “Hey.”

Xie Yi tilted his head, giving her a questioning look.

“What’s the deal with Shen Shu? He’s pretty impressive.” Shang Mengzhou gestured with her chin towards the front, where Shen Shu was standing behind a pile of corpses, with Su Yunan just approaching him. “Fast reactions, calm under pressure, and his skills are unbelievably good. What’s his ability? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him use it.”

Xie Yi: “Isn’t his information in the United Squad member files?”

Shang Mengzhou rolled her eyes at his words, then pointed around them. “The signal is constantly cutting out in here. It only recovers when we’re at the temporary camp using the equipment. And the temporary camp isn’t working right now; who knows when it’ll be updated? Where am I supposed to look?”

“Besides, he wasn’t in your squad before. Isn’t it easier to ask you? I feel like his name is familiar, but I’m sure I’ve never met him.” Shang Mengzhou finished, raising an eyebrow at him, her expression saying: Hurry up and tell me.

Xie Yi: “…”

Xie Yi: “He’s a rookie who graduated from the reserve training base this year, rated S overall, no ability.”

Xie Yi didn’t bother with her, calling Shen Shu and the others to follow, and then turned to walk in the other direction.

The coordinates indicated by the dedicated guide were only an approximate location; to meet up, they could only search around that location.

“There’s a sound over there.” Shang Mengzhou said to Xie Yi and the others while pointing towards a patch of forest to the right and front.

Xie Yi: “Let’s go take a look.”

However, the group had only taken a few steps in the direction Shang Mengzhou pointed when they all suddenly stopped.

Muffled, chaotic sounds poured through the dense and deformed forest in front of them, reaching Xie Yi and the others.

Xie Yi’s expression tightened. “There are many things approaching. Retreat!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the trees in the distance began to collapse. Then, they saw a huge Mutated Entity, composed of countless large and small black fleshy tumors, emerging from the collapsing forest.

The giant body of the thing continued to knock down the surrounding trees, and tendril-like things extended from the moving black fleshy tumors.

“It’s a Faceless Ghoul!” Shang Mengzhou said in a low voice. “Move!”

Xie Yi didn’t move. “There are people ahead.”

Shang Mengzhou was stunned. “What?”

“I’ll go meet them. You find a retreat route and come back to meet me later!” Xie Yi left these words behind and, without waiting for anyone to respond, immediately rushed forward.

“Wait, Xie Yi, I’ll go with you! Damn it!” Shang Mengzhou reached out to grab him, but missed. She turned her head to the people behind her and said, “Su Yunan, you and Shen Shu find a retreat route. I’ll go help him!”

Su Yunan hurriedly responded with a “okay.”

At this moment, no one noticed that Shen Shu, standing at the back, had turned his gaze towards the direction they had come from. His expression was indifferent, and the dark pupils of his eyes were gradually becoming lighter.

Su Yunan said, reaching out to pull Shen Shu, but before he could touch him, the originally motionless Shen Shu suddenly turned his head, his gaze fixating on him.

Shen Shu’s pupils had completely turned light, and the skin on his jaw was visibly becoming transparent, with a streamer-like golden pattern moving inside, turning from gold to red as it spread outward.

Su Yunan suddenly fell silent, his outstretched hand frozen in mid-air, and he unconsciously took a few steps back, falling to the ground with a thud.
