BFET Chapter 49

Shen Shu feigned innocence, “Captain, I’m just asking a question, not implying anything.”
“You better not be.” Xie Yi was too lazy to argue with him, turning his head, his gaze passing through the gaps in the twisted branches towards the distance.
The scattered ruins of rubble and the rugged forest blocked part of their view, but they could still vaguely see strange figures flashing in the gaps, though not many.
“Based on the growth of these plants, we should have left the geographical area of the high-risk Enclosed Zone,” Xie Yi said without turning his head. “There should be a contact point nearby. Let’s split up to look for the White Tail symbol. Regardless of whether we find it or not, we’ll meet here again in half an hour.”
Shen Shu lowered his eyes to look at him, “Captain, I have a way to avoid so much trouble.”
Hearing this, Xie Yi turned his head and saw Shen Shu looking up ahead, then lowering his gaze to meet his eyes, saying, “Why don’t you let me try?”
“You…” Xie Yi frowned. Although he knew what Shen Shu was referring to, given his previous unreliability, he questioned, “Are you sure you can? Won’t you suddenly lose control again?”
Shen Shu hummed, “If it’s about controlling a large number of high-level Mutated Entities at once, it might be a bit difficult, but switching to those stupid low and mid-level Mutated Entities shouldn’t be too hard.”
“There are already few Mutated Entities below the high-level active in the high-risk Enclosed Zone, why would we go looking for low and mid-level Mutated Entities specifically for you?” Xie Yi said.
Shen Shu looked at him and smiled, “Wouldn’t it be better to have them come to us?”
Xie Yi’s gaze suddenly sharpened, “What do you mean?”
Shen Shu didn’t answer but instead looked up into the distance. Xie Yi then saw his eyes slightly narrow, his dark pupils gradually fading, a faint layer of red marks appearing on his face, giving off an uncomfortable aura.
Xie Yi looked at him, his back involuntarily tensing, his heart in shock: When did he learn to actively mutate? He can even do it without absorbing pollution.
Soon, a sound came from the distance.
Dense and approaching, as if something was rubbing along the ground, or rapidly climbing along the ground.
The rustling sound soon began from the side.
Xie Yi turned his head at the right time and saw that they were already surrounded by many small Mutated Entities, such as small worms and isopods.
All the Mutated Entities turned the compound eyes on their heads and bodies, looked from Xie Yi to Shen Shu, then back to Xie Yi, and finally collectively focused on Shen Shu.
Shen Shu slightly turned his head to scan those things. Instantly, all the Mutated Entities collectively took a step back, then scattered in a swarm, quickly disappearing from their sight again.
“You were actively mutating just now to summon these things over,” Xie Yi looked at him and asked, “When did you start being able to do that?”
Hearing this, Shen Shu turned his head, his eyebrows slightly curved, “I don’t quite remember, I felt like I could control it a little bit after coming out of the Symbiotic Product Containment Room.”
Hearing the answer, Xie Yi’s expression changed slightly. They were still at the headquarters then, did Professor Hu and the high-level officers of the headquarters know?
He looked at Shen Shu, pursing his lips after a long silence, “Don’t easily use these abilities you have on Mutated Entities in front of others, and if you have to use them, use them more discreetly.”
Shen Shu stared at Xie Yi quietly, casually asking, “What is Captain worried about? Worried about me? Or worried about–”
Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly stopped.
The two turned around at the same time, and then saw an isopod with half-meter-long tentacles crawling out from behind the rubble next to them, rustling.
The isopod’s tentacles shook a few times towards Shen Shu, then it turned around. Shen Shu and Xie Yi exchanged a look and then followed it.
The two followed the isopod along the west side, passing through the rugged ruins, and finally arriving at a messy open space.
The open space was littered with a lot of old fitness equipment, weeds and vines growing wildly, wrapping around those things. There were also a few small cars parked around, looking like they had been scrapped.
Xie Yi and Shen Shu followed the isopod all the way in and saw the White Tail symbol they were looking for on a broken elliptical machine.
“Good job.” Shen Shu looked up at the isopod in front of him, then raised his gun and aimed at the thing’s head, “Thanks for your hard work.”
With a bang, yellowish-white mucus splattered everywhere.
Xie Yi glanced at it, stepping back half a step in disgust, looking to the side.
They were surrounded by uneven unfinished buildings, dense creeper vines covering every position within sight.
Suddenly, Xie Yi’s gaze stopped. He narrowed his eyes, staring at a certain position in the upper right for a few seconds, then raised his hand to look at his Smart Terminal. The lit screen still indicated a signal breakpoint.
Then, calling out to Shen Shu, the two walked together towards an unfinished building on the right.
The unfinished building was surrounded by a lot of residue and some Mutated Entity remains that had not been eaten clean, as well as obvious signs of gunfire.
While taking all of this into his eyes, Xie Yi couldn’t help but feel a little heavy in his heart.
The contact point had been attacked, and the entire point was empty.
The instruments and equipment, desks and chairs in the unfinished building were scattered haphazardly on the ground, a mess. There were signs of collapse on the wall, and there was obvious blood and an unknown liquid mixed with black and white on the ground, mixed with decaying flesh and remains.
However, what relieved them was that there were no human parts in it for the time being. It seemed that although it had been attacked, the entire contact point had retreated safely.
“You go find the spare power supply inside the station,” Xie Yi instructed Shen Shu, “I’ll find the communication equipment to see if it’s still useful and whether I can contact the headquarters.”
Shen Shu withdrew his uninterested gaze and responded with a ‘okay’.
The equipment in the station was scattered haphazardly. Xie Yi finally found the communication equipment that had been completely turned off in a corner.
The huge equipment was overturned on the ground, and some corners were broken, but the equipment did not seem to have any other damage.
“Shen Shu.” Xie Yi called out, “Did you find it?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the dim lights overhead flickered and lit up.
However, the communication equipment in his hand did not respond in any way.
Xie Yi frowned and tsked, got up and went around to the back to find the line connecting to the communication equipment, and found that several of them were broken. He removed a few replacement cables from the monitor next to him.
After reconnecting the line, the communication equipment started up, but then the output device flashed red and malfunctioned.
After all, Xie Yi was not a professional researcher in this area. Simple line problems were easy to solve, but if there were problems with the equipment device, it would be difficult to deal with.
He stared at the flashing red light for a few seconds with some irritability, and suddenly looked at the Smart Terminal on his wrist.
After a while, Xie Yi reluctantly used the Smart Terminal to replace the output device of the communication equipment, and then clicked on the analog signal output mode. A series of noisy sounds rang out urgently from the terminal.
“Contact Point 9, Kui City Security Defense Team calling Contact Point 9, please reply if received.”
“Kui City Security Defense Team calling Contact Point 9, please reply if received.”
“Kui City Security Defense Team calling Contact Point 9, please reply if received.”
…
Several calls instantly followed the communication equipment, passed through the Smart Terminal, and rushed out in droves, echoing in the slightly empty station.
