E-Sports Boss Wants To Post Messages With New Players Every Day Chapter 12
byChapter 12
Xie Wei had expected Xu Ziyan to be like the other Omegas who deliberately approached him, calling or texting him with excuses every few days. But disappointingly, nothing of the sort happened. The off-season was uneventful; every day was spent training and playing Ranked Matches, and life was no different than before.
Xie Wei couldn’t quite put his finger on how he felt. After agonizing over it for a few weeks, he simply decided to stop thinking about it and put the matter out of his mind.
Coincidentally, Resist ushered in a major version update, and all the teams were busy adapting to the new changes and maps. As the captain, Xie Wei naturally couldn’t let personal matters interfere with his duties. Before long, he returned to his usual routine.
It was late at night again. Outside the window, darkness reigned, with a solitary moon in the sky and scattered lights in the distance.
Xie Wei had just finished a Ranked Match. He lowered his eyes, marking a few drop points and flanking positions he had just tested. Looking up, he realized how late it was and belatedly remembered that he hadn’t eaten dinner yet.
He was the only one left in the training room. Xie Wei rubbed his sore neck, clicked the mouse twice to shut down the computer, stood up, and grabbed his car keys, planning to go out for a late-night snack.
The hallway was also deserted, pitch-black and seemingly endless, looking somewhat eerie at first glance. Xie Wei reached the elevator and was casually scrolling through his phone when he suddenly heard a moderate noise from the floor below. He paused.
At this hour, someone was still in the training room?
As this question popped up, Xu Ziyan’s face somehow surfaced in his mind.
He had been too busy these days, and Xu Ziyan was sensible enough not to seek attention, so Xie Wei rarely thought about that incident anymore. However, the first Omega he had ever marked was not someone he could easily forget.
Driven by an impulse, he pressed the button for the second floor.
The second floor was as quiet as the third.
The training room door was slightly ajar, and the light inside streamed out, casting a long strip of illumination on the corridor. Xie Wei unconsciously softened his steps and peered through the gap.
Inside the training room, Xu Ziyan was sound asleep, slumped over the only illuminated computer. Empty takeout containers and drink bottles were scattered nearby, clearly indicating he had eaten while glued to the screen.
On the computer monitor, the queue interface had disappeared due to inactivity, and the penalty countdown for being unable to queue still had two or three minutes left. By this estimation, Xu Ziyan had only been asleep for a little over ten minutes. Even in his sleep, his hand remained resting on the mouse, unmoving.
Xie Wei was somewhat surprised.
To be honest, he had assumed Xu Ziyan was just a pretty face, which was why he had used his body to secure a spot on the team. Although he had already arranged for the Youth Training Camp matter to be handled, the prejudice was ingrained and hard to shake. Thus, Xie Wei always felt that Xu Ziyan lacked genuine skill.
But now, looking at the Omega who had collapsed from exhaustion in front of the computer, his conviction wavered.
He picked up his phone and entered the ID Ice into the Ladder Ranking app.
Rank: fifty-seventh.
The Top 100 in the Ladder Ranking were almost entirely professional players and top solo players; advancing even a single spot was incredibly difficult. Yet, Xu Ziyan had managed to push forward by more than ten ranks.
And this was during a major version update.
Surprised and intrigued, Xie Wei looked at the sleeping Xu Ziyan, hesitated for a moment, then pushed the door open. He quietly walked in, found a blanket to drape over him, and then just as quietly left.
A scrim ended, and Xu Ziyan stretched and let out a huge yawn.
Although he was still nominally the Substitute Medic for the second team, everyone had already tacitly accepted him as the new Main Roster Player.
Yuan Shaofeng, who was closest to him, asked, “Didn’t sleep well last night?”
“I slept great,” Xu Ziyan twisted his neck. This wasn’t a lie. Due to the major version update, he had practically been living in the training room these past few days, often sleeping right in front of the computer.
Normally, sleeping like that would require coffee to survive the next day, but for some reason, yesterday, he had smelled a very, very comforting scent in his semi-conscious state, after which he slept exceptionally well. He woke up refreshed and ready to fight for another dozen hours.
After thinking for a moment, Xu Ziyan turned and asked, “Oh, right, Brother Yuan, I fell asleep in the training room yesterday. Did you cover me with a blanket?”
“No.” Yuan Shaofeng turned to ask the others, but they all gave negative replies.
Xu Ziyan found it strange but didn’t press the matter, assuming it was just some kind passerby.
After a quick dinner, he returned to his computer and clicked on Ranked Match.
This was the peak time for players, so he quickly found a match. Clicking the confirm button, Xu Ziyan was adjusting his keyboard when Yuan Shaofeng next to him suddenly gasped and poked Xu Ziyan’s arm. “Holy crap! Ice! I’ll give you ten bucks, let me play this round!”
Xu Ziyan was utterly confused. He looked up at his teammate list.
He was stunned by what he saw.
The player ID marked as Sniper in the 2nd slot was Shining.
It was Xie Wei.
