    Chapter Index

The moment their lips met, the surrounding pheromone scent instantly grew much stronger.

Xie Wei’s pupils contracted slightly, his mind blanked by the sweetness so close to him. However, he quickly reacted, raising his hand to grip Xu Ziyan’s shoulder and pushing him away.

He frowned, looking at the Omega in front of him.

“Xu Ziyan,” he didn’t use Xu Ziyan’s ID, but called his name directly, “The last time was an accident, what about this time?”

After being pushed away, Xu Ziyan’s rationality finally returned. He bit his lip and said, “This time, it’s not.”

Lifting his head, he looked directly into the Alpha’s eyes, suppressing his nervousness and shyness, and stated clearly, word by word, “Xie Wei, I like you.”

His heartbeat pounded in his ears like thunder, each beat louder than the last.

Xu Ziyan’s fingers couldn’t help but tighten, clutching the hem of his clothes. Beside him, the gift Xie Wei had just given him lay quietly, with its pale yellow wrapping and beautiful ribbon, clearly chosen with care.

During those few short minutes of silence, Xu Ziyan thought of many things, mostly Xie Wei.

They had a Temporary Marking and shared the most intimate relationship. Xie Wei helped him join the team, recommended him for the Rookie Cup, and provided care, comfort, and companionship during the competition preparations.

Had Xie Wei ever done this for anyone else? Had he ever been this good to another Omega?

    The answer was undoubtedly no.

Did this mean that he was different, special, in Xie Wei’s heart?

Was it possible that Xie Wei also harbored feelings for him…

An agonizing silence fell over the car. After a long while, a slightly low, husky voice broke the quiet.

    “I’m sorry.”

In this situation, saying this could only mean rejection.

However, the person who said it wasn’t Xie Wei, the one who had been confessed to, but Xu Ziyan.

A moment of surprise flashed across Xie Wei’s face.

Xu Ziyan was no longer flustered or shy. Although his cheeks were still slightly flushed, his expression had clearly calmed down. He curved his lips into a smile: “Captain, I was just letting you know, I wasn’t asking for an answer. Well, if you don’t have feelings for me, you shouldn’t be too nice to me, or I might overthink things, and then accidents like the one just now are likely to happen.”

    Accident.

The last marking was an accident, and this kiss was an accident.

He certainly drew a clear distinction.

    Xie Wei didn’t speak.

When Xu Ziyan leaned in to kiss him just now, he could have completely dodged it.

But at that moment, smelling the sweet candy scent of the Omega, Xie Wei’s body seemed frozen, unable to move. He could only stand there stiffly, watching Xu Ziyan nervously and cautiously bring his lips closer.

Normally, Xie Wei should have calmly and indifferently rejected this confession, as he had countless times before, and then put distance between them.

But the words caught in his throat, and he felt inexplicably hesitant.

Xie Wei couldn’t deny that he was indeed very good to Xu Ziyan, a kindness that far exceeded the relationship between a team captain and a member.

However, he couldn’t distinguish whether this kindness was directed toward someone he liked, or simply toward an Omega with whom he had a marking relationship.

One was a beautiful emotion, while the other was merely pure pheromone attraction, stemming only from animalistic instinct.

He glanced at the young man in the passenger seat who was still forcing a smile, sighed, and raised a hand to ruffle the other’s soft, fluffy black hair.

“Don’t overthink it,” Xie Wei said. “Go back and get a good night’s sleep. We have training tomorrow.”

His failure to give a clear answer made the impulsive confessor breathe a sigh of relief.

Xu Ziyan looked at the Alpha beside him, whose expression was normal and unchanged from usual. He thought with a bitter smile: This was probably the best outcome after his confession.

After dropping Xu Ziyan off, Xie Wei didn’t return to the training room but drove straight back to the dormitory.

In the car, the sweet scent of the Omega hadn’t completely dissipated. Xie Wei took a cigarette from the storage box, put it in his mouth, and the lighter’s flame flickered in the darkness.

He rarely smoked, only occasionally when he was tired, weary, or faced with an unsolvable problem. Then, he would sit alone in the car and quietly smoke one.

Soon, the smell of tobacco covered the remaining Omega Pheromone. Xie Wei’s tense nerves relaxed slightly. He exhaled a puff of smoke, gazing at the night sky, lost in thought.

Since he was old enough to understand, Xie Wei knew his family was different from others.

It wasn’t just because of his prominent background, but also because both his father and mother were Alphas.

The Xie family was an old, established wealthy family with deep roots, and the Xie Corporation was a large enterprise ranked nationally and even globally. Therefore, when outsiders saw the Xie couple, this AA pairing, they inevitably wondered if it was a business marriage.

But the truth was, Xie’s father and mother were childhood sweethearts, growing up together without a care. Their relationship wasn’t affected after their differentiation. When the time was right, they quickly confirmed their relationship, got married, and had Xie Wei.

Xie’s father was cold and rarely smiled. Xie’s mother was relatively gentler, but she was also a strong woman who was decisive in her decisions. Because of this, Xie Wei often saw his parents argue when he was young, but more often, he saw them being affectionate.

His parents’ deep affection greatly influenced Xie Wei, making him believe for a time that human love could overcome the attraction of Pheromones.

This naive belief ended that summer.

That day, he finished his college entrance exam and returned home early. The moment he opened the door, a strong Omega Pheromone rushed at him, etching itself deeply into Xie Wei’s mind along with the scene in the living room.

His usually tall and steady father was lying on the sofa, his clothes disheveled, embracing a fair-skinned, charming Omega.

Stimulated by the unfamiliar Omega Pheromone, Xie Wei instantly entered his Rut Period. His face was pale, and the blood in his body was so hot it felt like it was burning, but his heart felt like it had plunged into an abyss of ice. His mind went blank, and he even forgot to inject the Inhibitor.

In the end, it was his mother, who returned home shortly after, who maintained the last shred of her noble composure after seeing everything. She helped Xie Wei inject the Inhibitor, chased away the Omega, and calmly entered the study with Xie’s father to talk.

Xie Wei never knew what they discussed that day, but when Xie’s father and mother emerged from the study, their faces held an unprecedented coldness and distance.

Later, they didn’t divorce, but it was close to it. Both had other partners outside. In their external work and social engagements, they maintained the flawless facade of a model couple, but the home that was once filled with laughter could never return to its former harmony.

Xie Wei still remembers that day. His mother held him, fighting back tears, and said, “Xie Wei, you must never be like your father, thinking you’ve fallen in love with someone just because of pheromone attraction. Love is the attraction of heart to heart, not pheromone to pheromone.”

Xie Wei nodded then, and he has remembered that sentence to this day.

He couldn’t help but wonder, which category did he and Xu Ziyan fall into? Was it the attraction of heart to heart, or merely the attraction between Pheromones?

Initially, Xie Wei was indeed feeling guilty because of the marking, which led him to pay attention to this Omega repeatedly.

Later, the care and companionship during the Rookie Cup preparation were also because Xu Ziyan was physically uncomfortable after being marked by him, which was why Xie Wei acted that way.

More importantly, was Xu Ziyan’s affection for him due to the instinctive dependence an Omega develops on an Alpha during a marking period, which is why…

Xie Wei shook his head, smiled, and extinguished the cigarette butt in the ashtray.

The next day, Xu Ziyan arrived at the training room with two massive dark circles under his eyes.

He appeared relatively calm in front of Xie Wei, but his mind was already in chaos. He tossed and turned in bed back at the dormitory, filled with regret.

    Why couldn’t he control himself?

    Why was he so impulsive?

Although Xie Wei acted as usual afterward, as if the confession had never happened, Xu Ziyan knew that this reaction was essentially the same as a rejection.

It was only because of the initial accident that Xie Wei treated him slightly specially, and he foolishly thought Xie Wei might have fallen for him… How stupid!

Bai Ke was startled by his listless appearance and couldn’t help but wonder. Yesterday, he saw Xu Ziyan excitedly rush out, thinking he was going on a date. But seeing him today, it wasn’t a date at all; he looked like he was attending a funeral.

He didn’t ask Xu Ziyan what happened yesterday, and he even stopped Yuan Shaofeng and Meng Cang from asking. Patting Xu Ziyan’s shoulder, Bai Ke smiled, “Ice, want to Duo Queue? We’re playing KW tomorrow, and their second team loves to flank the backline. Let’s practice some tricky tactics to counter them.”

Hearing about the match, Xu Ziyan perked up a bit: “Okay.”

After playing two Ranked Matches with Bai Ke, his gloomy mood was somewhat relieved. Just as Xu Ziyan was about to queue again, the training room door suddenly opened, and Lu Donglou hurried in.

He stood in front of Xu Ziyan and, without speaking, made a gesture to the others in the training room.

Xu Ziyan didn’t understand, but Bai Ke knew that the gesture meant for anyone streaming or on voice chat to mute their mics.

Usually, this meant something serious had happened.

What’s going on? Bai Ke frowned.

Lu Donglou placed his phone in front of Xu Ziyan, his expression serious: “Ice, what is this about?”

Xu Ziyan was completely bewildered and looked down blankly.

On the phone screen, a blogger had smugly posted a photo. In the picture, a tall Alpha was looking down, talking to the Omega beside him. The photographer’s angle was excellent; both their faces showed smiles, and their intimate posture looked very suggestive.

The moment he clearly saw the photo, Xu Ziyan’s mind exploded with a loud boom.

The two people in the photo were him and Xie Wei.
