    Chapter 39

    The weather was excellent.

Xu Ziyan awoke from his dream feeling completely refreshed, without the usual fatigue and weakness that followed his Rut Period.

    This was to be expected.

After all, the person who helped him through his Rut Period and gave him a marking was a Top-Tier Alpha.

Xu Ziyan had fully recovered his senses now. Everything from the previous night returned to his mind. He lay in bed, looking at the bright sunlight next to him, and smiled, thinking: Well, this is completely over now.

He had finally managed to upgrade from being a “shallow Omega who sold himself for glory” to a “teammate with mutual affection.” Now, he was back to square one. In Xie Wei’s mind, he had probably returned to his original position.

    Why couldn’t he hold back?

Why did he lose his head at that moment?

Just as Xu Ziyan was deeply reflecting, a few sounds came from the bathroom. He jolted, eyes wide, and saw Xie Wei emerge.

Because the heating was on in the room, the man was only wearing a shirt and black trousers. His hair was slightly disheveled, making him look much more casual than usual.

Seeing that he was awake, Xie Wei walked over, knelt on the bed, and tested the temperature of Xu Ziyan’s forehead with his palm: “Are you feeling better?”

Xu Ziyan stammered, “Much, much better.”

    “Good.”

Xu Ziyan had imagined the outcome he would face upon waking—nothing less than anger or cold treatment. He hadn’t expected Xie Wei to be so calm and even concerned about him.

His gaze unconsciously darted around, trying to find a topic to gauge Xie Wei’s attitude. Before he could think of anything, he heard Xie Wei speak unhurriedly: “You said you liked me before. Has your feeling changed now?”

Hearing this, Xu Ziyan immediately stopped thinking about anything else and quickly said, “Of course not!”

Xie Wei looked at his eager expression and smiled softly: “Then… let’s try being together.”

Xu Ziyan froze, his mind momentarily failing to process the words. He remained stiffly in place: “Wh-what?”

Xie Wei said, “What, you don’t want to?”

How could he not want to?

The person before him was the one he had liked and followed for so long.

But Xie Wei’s sudden change in attitude left Xu Ziyan feeling confused and lost. He instinctively felt that Xie Wei had agreed to be with him as compensation because of what he had done yesterday, which led Xie Wei to give him a marking.

In Xu Ziyan’s heart, he had indeed put in a lot of effort to get close to Xie Wei and pursue him, but it was all willingly done. He did those things because they made him happy.

If it caused distress to the person he liked because of it…

He bit his lip. Before he could speak, Xie Wei patted his head first: “Are you going to apologize to me again? Why aren’t you this heavy-hearted about other things? You even wanted to compete during your Rut Period… Don’t overthink it. I may not know much about these things, but I’m an adult, and I can naturally take responsibility for what I say.”

Xie Wei finished speaking and smiled again: “Get up quickly. The car is already downstairs. We have to catch a flight. If you’re tired, you can catch up on sleep on the way.”

Hearing about the competition, Xu Ziyan stopped talking and quickly got up to wash and change.

After gathering his peripherals and getting into the car, the driver had already made one trip to the airport to drop off the other team members and the Coach, and was now back to pick them up. The driver had likely been instructed beforehand, as he was smiling and didn’t say anything unnecessary.

On the way, Xu Ziyan looked at the traffic outside the car window. Suddenly, through the reflection in the window, he saw Xie Wei sitting beside him with a cold expression, looking down at his phone without moving for a long time.

Starting today, Xie Wei was his boyfriend, his Alpha, legitimately.

Yet, Xu Ziyan inexplicably felt that he was further away from Xie Wei.

Perhaps because of the recent intimacy of the marking, Xie Wei keenly sensed the young man’s unease beside him. He put down his phone and subtly took Xu Ziyan’s hand.

He whispered, “Are you still feeling unwell?”

Xu Ziyan snapped back and shook his head: “I’m just… thinking about the competition.”

Xie Wei curved his lips, gently rubbing his thumb over Xu Ziyan’s jawline: “With me here, it’ll be fine.”

The two arrived at the competition venue on time. After this incident, the other team members were more or less aware of the relationship between Xu Ziyan and Xie Wei.

Bai Chen was fine, but Shen Xiao was nearly dumbfounded. He was completely out of it, even showing less aggression towards Secret during the match. His gameplay seemed much more stable.

He wasn’t chasing Li Huanbin wildly to slash him, which Li Huanbin found very strange. He suspected Shen Xiao had some new bad idea and played much more conservatively on offense.

The live chat was buzzing, wondering if Seamy had changed his ways. However, a portion of Shen Xiao’s “mom fans” were greatly relieved, praising Shen Xiao to the heavens on various forums, wiping away tears and saying Seamy finally understood how to restrain his personal emotions and play psychological tactics.

TWG won the match against WOF two to one, providing a satisfactory conclusion to their final competition of the year.

Shen Xiao managed to restrain himself while outside, but as soon as they returned to the base, he couldn’t help but burst out: “Ice, you, you, you—”

Xu Ziyan sat patiently in his chair, waiting for him to finish his “you.”

Shen Xiao said, “You actually? Actually with the Captain? When did this happen? No, the most important thing is, how did you do it? Oh my god, they say masters hide their skills, and it’s true! Come on, tell your brother, how did you manage to snag the Captain?”

How was Xu Ziyan supposed to answer that?

He could only offer an awkward but polite smile.

Xie Wei walked into the lounge shortly after. Seeing the situation, he grabbed Shen Xiao by the collar and dragged him back, saying flatly, “He didn’t pursue me. I pursued him.”

Xu Ziyan’s heart skipped a beat, and he looked blankly at Xie Wei.

Shen Xiao’s attention was successfully diverted: “Captain Xie, so you were the one hiding your skills!”

He then asked, “Then you two were together around the time Ice joined the team, right? Why didn’t you ever say anything?”

Xie Wei said, “The timing wasn’t right then.”

Although Shen Xiao had low emotional intelligence, he wasn’t stupid. After thinking for a moment, he understood and laughed: “It really wasn’t suitable.”

A little later, Yu Guangzhou came in to announce the post-match review meeting, and everyone headed to the conference room.

Xie Wei usually walked at the front, but today he lagged a step behind, walking with Xu Ziyan at the end of the line.

When the people ahead were a good distance away, he whispered, “Just now…”

    Xu Ziyan looked up.

Xie Wei said, “Shen Xiao asked, so I took the liberty of answering. If others ask in the future, just go along with it. It saves a lot of explanation.”

Xu Ziyan’s heart warmed. He knew Xie Wei was thinking of him.

If he had pursued Xie Wei, given his “rapid ascent” within the TWG team, people would inevitably speculate about his intentions.

But if the situation was reversed, at most Xie Wei would be the subject of some gossip, and Xu Ziyan would be able to keep out of trouble.

He nodded obediently. Xie Wei curved his lips and patted his head.

After the review meeting, the TWG A-Team officially entered the off-season. There were still a few matches left in the league, but they could relax ahead of time.

Shen Xiao flipped through the schedule and suddenly remembered something: “Speaking of which, our Second Team still has one match left, right? I think it’s tomorrow. Bai Chen, want to go watch?”

Bai Chen was indifferent and said casually, “Whatever.”

“Great! I’ll go ask Coach Lu for tickets.” Shen Xiao grinned. “Our internal team tickets are all VIP seats. Captain and Ice, are you coming?”

They had nothing else to do, but Xie Wei did. With many things happening at the end of the year, besides his duties at the base, he also had to visit the company these days, so he waved his hand: “I’m busy tomorrow. You guys go.”

    “Alright, what about Ice?”

Xu Ziyan actually had something he wanted to ask Bai Ke, and it had been a long time since he had seen the Second Team members. He nodded: “I’ll go.”

The next day, the three of them took a car to the Second Team’s competition venue.

The TWG Second Team’s performance was quite good. After adjusting with the new players for a period, achieving their current points was quite impressive.

However, no one knew what the situation would be like after KK left.

The opponent for the final match wasn’t particularly strong, and the random map was also favorable—a Sniper’s paradise. KK’s sniping skills were even better than before, taking down opponents with single shots. The TWG Second Team won easily.

As soon as the match ended, Shen Xiao, relying on his outgoing nature and thick skin, immediately brought Bai Chen and Xu Ziyan backstage to say hello and even instigated a dinner together.

The Second Team members were also happy to see them. Lu Donglou saw the young people gathered together, and since the holiday was right around the corner with no more matches, he agreed.

However, Bai Ke looked at Xu Ziyan with a thoughtful expression.

Later, during the dinner, Xu Ziyan excused himself to get some air. Without even needing to be contacted, Bai Ke followed him out, keeping his eyes downcast.

The wind on the terrace was cool. Bai Ke wrapped his down jacket tighter and complained, “Ugh, if you wanted to find me, you could have just found me. Why did you have to choose a place like this?”

He then looked at Xu Ziyan: “Spit it out. What couldn’t you say over Line that required a special meeting? It can’t be because you missed me.”

Xu Ziyan smiled: “It actually is because I missed you.”

Bai Ke gave him a look that said he didn’t believe a single word.

Xu Ziyan said, “KK, you’re very familiar with Captain Xie. Have you… heard anything about his past, uh, romantic life?”

Xu Ziyan felt a bit awkward asking his friend about his own boyfriend, and he couldn’t help but rub his nose.

Bai Ke raised an eyebrow in surprise, thought carefully, and said, “Honestly, no. Captain Xie is truly a model of self-restraint. Why?”

Xu Ziyan sighed and said, “Captain Xie and I are together.”

Bai Ke looked unsurprised: “Congratulations, congratulations.” Then he became wary: “You didn’t come here just to show off, did you?”

Xu Ziyan was speechless: “Do I look like such a boring person?” He paused, scratching his head in frustration: “He agreed to be with me, but… I always feel like he’s just forcing himself.”

Although Xie Wei had said they should try being together, Xu Ziyan felt that his distance from Xie Wei was even greater than before.

He genuinely liked Xie Wei, but he hoped that Xie Wei was with him because he liked him, not out of some sense of responsibility or guilt.

A forced relationship held no meaning.

Bai Ke understood what he meant, rubbed his chin, and said thoughtfully, “There might be one thing that’s relevant.”

    Xu Ziyan asked, “What?”

Bai Ke said, “It’s about Captain Xie’s parents.”
