    Chapter 40

When Xu Ziyan heard that, he instinctively felt that he shouldn’t pry too much into other people’s family matters, but the mountain of doubts in his heart was too much to bear. He asked, “…What?”

Bai Ke subtly glanced outside the balcony. Only after confirming that no one was around did he lower his voice and recount the matter concerning Xie Wei’s parents.

The incident involving Xie Wei’s father and the Omega had been kept tightly under wraps, so few people knew about it. However, Bai Ke’s mother and Xie Wei’s mother were close, like sisters. That day, when Xie Wei’s mother came to the Bai family to pour out her distress, Bai Ke happened to overhear a little from outside the door.

Xu Ziyan’s face grew paler the more he listened.

He immediately understood the crux of the matter and gave a bitter smile: No wonder Xie Wei treated him that way. Back then, Xie Wei’s father failed to resist the temptation of pheromones, causing their once harmonious family to fall apart.

In contrast, both times he and Xie Wei marked each other, it was invariably due to the influence of pheromones during the Rut Period. Even their acquaintance was an accident caused by pheromones.

Xie Wei already had a barrier in his heart, yet Xu Ziyan had come into his life in the most inappropriate way.

Were Xie Wei’s previous responses also merely because of…

“Well, that’s the gist of it.” Bai Ke shrugged. Seeing Xu Ziyan’s sullen, melancholic expression, he smiled and comforted him, “No matter what Xie-dui thinks, you two are officially in a relationship now. Why overthink it? You finally managed to conquer this ice mountain, so just enjoy it first.”

Xu Ziyan sighed, “I’m afraid he’s only with me out of a sense of responsibility and going with the flow.”

The companionship after the marking was responsibility, but what about the current relationship?

Bai Ke chuckled, “Ice, let me ask you a question: Do you think Xie-dui is the type of person who would spend every day with someone and treat them specially just because of some so-called responsibility?”

    Xu Ziyan was startled.

Bai Ke continued, “If I may be frank, with Xie-dui’s personality, even if you successfully got a Temporary Marking at the beginning, once he helped you join the team, the two of you would have been even. Even if you tried to approach him, Xie-dui most likely wouldn’t even spare you a glance.”

Xu Ziyan’s expression shifted slightly. Bai Ke was right. Initially, while Xie Wei’s attitude toward him carried an element of apology and compensation, his intention to draw a clear line was also very obvious.

But later, Xie Wei’s subtle care, the preferential treatment in opportunities and resources, and the continuous comfort and companionship slowly blurred that boundary between them.

Bai Ke watched the changes in the young Omega’s expression with keen interest, clearly enjoying participating in discussions about his friend’s love life, especially when the target was the unyielding Xie Wei. It was simply too amusing.

Xu Ziyan thought for a moment, then suddenly stood up and said, “I need to go back to the base.”

Bai Ke was unsurprised. “Be careful on your way.” He paused, then added, “If you’re really struggling, why not ask Xie-dui directly? Since he’s dating you, he won’t be stingy about answering a few small questions.”

Xu Ziyan nodded at him, giving a grateful smile.

Returning to the private room, Xu Ziyan grabbed his coat and phone, exchanged a few brief words with the people at the table, and left like a gust of wind.

Shen Xiao watched him leave in a hurry and couldn’t help but mutter, “What’s wrong? Leaving so suddenly.”

Bai Ke entered the room a moment later. Hearing the question, he smiled and said, “He had something urgent, why ask so much?”

Yuan Shaofeng saw him return and asked curiously, “KK, did you run into Ice outside just now?”

Bai Ke shrugged, “We just happened to go out at the same time and happened to come back at the same time.”

Seeing that Bai Ke seemed unwilling to answer, Yuan Shaofeng didn’t press further. When Bai Ke sat back down next to him, he whispered, “I just heard Shen Xiao say that you’re transferring to YNG after the playoffs… Is that true?”

Bai Ke cursed Shen Xiao silently for being a blabbermouth, but maintained a calm, amiable smile on his face. “It is. Alright, let’s not talk about that. Eat and drink up, there’s still plenty of fun planned for tonight…”

With the end of the year approaching and the season break underway, most of the staff at the TWG base had gone home for the New Year holiday. The base was deserted, with only the lights in the adjacent dormitory building casting a warm yellow glow in the darkness.

Xu Ziyan looked up from downstairs and saw that the lights on the first team’s training room floor were off. Knowing that Xie Wei must be in the dorm, he didn’t linger and headed straight back to the East Villa Building.

Unexpectedly, he ran into Xie Wei downstairs, who was coming out to pick up takeout.

The man was wearing a white shirt loosely covered by a khaki knitted cardigan. The milk tea and crayfish in his hands were still steaming.

Xu Ziyan had mentally rehearsed what he would say all the way back, but all his preparations vanished the moment he saw Xie Wei.

Xie Wei saw him standing still for a long time and spoke, “Why are you standing there staring? Come in.”

Xu Ziyan followed Xie Wei inside as instructed. He looked at the things Xie Wei was carrying and tentatively asked, “Captain, haven’t you eaten yet tonight?”

    It was already very late.

Xie Wei replied, “I bought this for you. You went out today and didn’t eat much, did you?”

Xu Ziyan was stunned. “How did you know…”

He had been preoccupied with his thoughts for the past two days, and today he mainly went out to find Bai Ke, so he hadn’t focused much on eating or having fun.

Now that he was back and smelled the food, he realized he was quite hungry.

Xie Wei lowered his head to change his shoes and carried the food to the dining table. “Coach Lu told me. He saw you were distracted and hadn’t eaten anything, and wondered if we had argued. He specifically called me after you left.”

Then, Xie Wei timed the order for the milk tea and takeout perfectly, so it arrived just as Xu Ziyan returned.

Xu Ziyan felt a little embarrassed. Was his distress that obvious? Even Coach Lu noticed.

He sighed softly and walked over to sit at the dining table.

The crayfish from this place was excellent. The pieces were large, the roe and meat were plump, and each one was thoroughly soaked in the sauce, offering a hint of sweetness amidst the spicy flavor. Xu Ziyan initially felt a bit awkward eating alone, but soon got into it, quickly finishing the entire box of crayfish.

The milk tea had a very low sweetness level, perfect for cutting through the richness.

Xie Wei quietly accompanied him, reading documents on his tablet. When Xu Ziyan finished eating, Xie Wei was about to stand up to help clean up, but Xu Ziyan quickly stopped him.

“No, no, no,” Xu Ziyan said. “Captain, you go up first, I’ll clean up…”

After saying it, he felt the words were ambiguous. What did “go up first” imply? Wasn’t the underlying meaning that he would also go up later?

Xie Wei clearly caught the implication and smiled. “Alright, I’ll wait for you in the room then.”

Xu Ziyan lowered his head, feeling like he was radiating heat.

An Alpha and Omega in a relationship, especially one with a marking bond, sharing a room—anyone could guess what would happen.

After Xie Wei went upstairs, Xu Ziyan quickly cleaned up the dining table, threw the trash outside the door, and then rushed back to his room for a hot shower.

While showering, he hesitated, then used a new body wash. Qu Qingyue had given it to him before she left. It was a new, unopened bottle, supposedly strawberry-scented, which she said matched his pheromone scent quite well.

Stepping out of the bathroom, Xu Ziyan gave himself a thorough mental pep talk, then, wearing his pajamas, he knocked on Xie Wei’s door with a flushed face.

Bai Ke was right; don’t dwell on what you can’t change, just enjoy the present moment.

The door quickly opened. Xie Wei also looked like he had just showered; his hair ends were still slightly damp. His usual impeccable aloofness had completely vanished. His narrow eyes were slightly narrowed, giving him a somewhat languid look.

A drop of water slid down his long neck, past his beautifully shaped collarbone. The thin shirt faintly revealed the shape of his chest muscles.

    Xu Ziyan’s throat tightened.

This was his Alpha. This title was no longer due to others’ misunderstanding, but was rightfully earned.

The dormitory building was quiet. Everyone else was still out having fun, leaving only the two of them alone.

Xie Wei no longer deliberately suppressed his pheromones; a faint scent of lemon and mint permeated the air.

Xu Ziyan swallowed, moving his stiff legs, slowly walking into Xie Wei’s room like a lamb entering a wolf’s den.

As soon as he entered and the door closed, Xu Ziyan was immediately embraced from behind.

The Alpha’s breath was hot against the back of his neck. “…Did you change your body wash?”

Xu Ziyan nervously gripped the wrist draped across his waist and nodded.

Then, he heard Xie Wei let out a low chuckle.

This was the first time he had been held by Xie Wei while fully conscious. Every movement of the Alpha was so clear, filled with a possessiveness that made him tremble, yet compelled him to submit.

Xu Ziyan had never known Xie Wei had this side to him.

This was the Xie Wei that belonged only to him.

    He closed his eyes.

Xie Wei gently placed him back on the bed, tucked him in, and smiled, “Do you want me to bring your laptop over? Or do you want to rest now? I still have some work to do, and I don’t want you to be bored.”

Xu Ziyan blinked and shook his head. “No need.”

Xie Wei didn’t say anything more.

The room fell silent, with only the occasional sound of typing on the keyboard, which was deliberately kept very soft.

Xu Ziyan turned over and looked at Xie Wei working under the desk lamp.

The young, handsome Alpha had his eyes lowered, his pupils reflecting the light of the screen. His expression was focused, yet his features exuded a sense of laziness and casualness. His clothes were loose, and the exposed skin on his neck still bore kiss marks and teeth marks.

Xu Ziyan suddenly recalled the first time he saw Xie Wei in a video years ago. The screen was filled with screaming comments. At that time, he felt as if he were in a massive plaza, the audience below in darkness, packed with people, the screams incessant, while on the stage, bathed in brilliant light, stood only one tall, slender figure.

Like countless fans, he looked up, filled with admiration.

Later, Xu Ziyan honed his skills day and night, finally climbing the ranks, and for the first time, his account was matched into the same Ranked Match as Xie Wei’s.

He had forgotten the outcome of that match, only remembering that after it ended, his palms were slick with sweat from nervousness.

On the first day he reached the Ladder Ranking, Xu Ziyan received invitations for streaming and Youth Training Camp invitations from other teams.

He rejected them all. Then, he suddenly realized that he could pursue the path of esports, and then… truly stand by Xie Wei’s side.

Now, Xie Wei sat only a few meters away from him, still bearing the marks he had left during their passionate moments earlier.

A sudden surge of emotion washed over Xu Ziyan’s chest. He couldn’t hold back any longer. He propped himself up and softly called out, “…Captain.”

Xie Wei shifted his gaze from the documents in his hand and looked over with a slight look of confusion.

Xu Ziyan was filled with shyness and apprehension as he tentatively asked, “Do you like me?”
