    Chapter Index

Xu Ziyan was chatting happily with Yuan Shaofeng. Both of them were quite outgoing and acted quickly and decisively. As like attracts like, they arranged a Duo Queue session for the afternoon after just a few sentences.

The original Medic on the Second Team had a somewhat manipulative personality, and the substitute Medic’s skill level was subpar. As a result, Yuan Shaofeng hadn’t enjoyed Duo Queuing with a Medic for a long time. Usually, he just teamed up with Bai Ke, the Sniper, which at least allowed them to gain some Ladder Ranking points.

However, as an Assault Player who charged into the front lines, the most ideal Duo Queue partner was undoubtedly a Medic.

Although Xu Ziyan was an Omega, he didn’t have the same annoying issues as the previous Medic. He was cheerful and generous, and his technique was top-notch.

Yuan Shaofeng’s favorable impression of this newly assigned teammate shot up. Just as he was about to say more, he suddenly heard Lu Donglou cough lightly behind him. He wondered, “Didn’t he just tell Xu Ziyan to get familiar with us? Why the sudden change of heart?”

Without thinking much, he turned his head and looked back, meeting Xie Wei’s expressionless gaze outside the door.

Yuan Shaofeng had been with the team for nearly two years, and the number of times he had seen the Captain was still countable on one hand. He instantly straightened up, feeling a jolt of alertness.

Xu Ziyan found his reaction strange and looked back a moment later.

“Hey, hey, did you see him?” Shen Xiao craned his neck, peering from behind for a long time, but his view was completely blocked by Xie Wei. Now seeing Xie Wei lost in thought, he felt puzzled, wondering what was wrong with him today. “What does that kid look like? Don’t block the view, let me see too.”

Xie Wei glanced at Yuan Shaofeng, whose arm was still resting on Xu Ziyan’s shoulder, and expressionlessly took a step back.

He remembered that this person was the Second Team’s Assault Player, an Alpha.

Yuan Shaofeng shivered under the gaze, rubbed his arm, and wondered aloud, “Why would Captain Xie come to our building? Oh, Shen Xiao is here too. Then it’s not surprising.”

The moment Xu Ziyan saw Xie Wei, his heart started racing, pounding in his chest, almost leaping out of his throat. He couldn’t show that he knew Xie Wei. Hearing Yuan Shaofeng’s words, he suppressed his agitated emotions, forced himself to remain calm, and asked, “Oh? Why do you say that?”

“Shen Xiao, of course. He must have heard that our Second Team got an Omega and came to gawk. He loves doing that. If there’s an Omega anywhere in the team, even if it’s a forty-year-old cleaning lady, he has to go take a look.”

Yuan Shaofeng realized his phrasing might be misleading and quickly tried to salvage it. “I don’t mean anything bad about Omegas, uh, Shen Xiao respects Omegas too. He just loves being curious and flirting around, he’s not a bad person. But it’s really rare for Captain Xie to indulge his nonsense…”

Xu Ziyan’s mind had already flown to Xie Wei outside the door. He was only half-listening to Yuan Shaofeng, the words going in one ear and out the other. He nodded vaguely, thinking to himself: Did Xie Wei specifically come to see me?

Or was he afraid that I wouldn’t keep my promise and reveal their relationship, so he came to check on the situation?

Xu Ziyan considered it and felt the second possibility was more likely. He was self-aware enough to know that his image in Xie Wei’s eyes was quite poor right now, so he didn’t indulge in wishful thinking. He picked up his phone and sent Xie Wei a message.

Shen Xiao was leaning against the training room door, enthusiastically praising the new Second Team Medic’s appearance to Bai Chen. Xie Wei, however, didn’t look inside again. His phone vibrated in his team uniform pocket. He took it out and saw a message from Xu Ziyan.

Xu Ziyan: Captain Xie, don’t worry, I will definitely keep the promise I made to you!!

Xie Wei paused for a moment before realizing Xu Ziyan was referring to his earlier warning about “acting like strangers within the team.” He couldn’t help but feel a little exasperated.

Truth be told, he couldn’t explain why he had a momentary lapse of judgment and followed Shen Xiao over.

Having been teammates for years, Xie Wei knew very well that Shen Xiao liked to talk big but was actually a pure, inexperienced man who still hadn’t had his first relationship. Yet, when he heard Shen Xiao wanted to go see Xu Ziyan, he couldn’t stop the inner surge of anxiety.

This anxious feeling peaked when he saw Xu Ziyan chatting happily with another Alpha.

Xie Wei took a deep breath and replied.

    Xie Wei: Mm.

Xu Ziyan had already put his phone down, surprised to receive a reply. His fingers unconsciously rubbed the phone screen, and the corners of his lips slowly curled into a smile.
