How To Break Qaq If The Dragon Catches The Wrong Person? Chapter 15
byChapter 15 Waking Up
“…Mian, Mian?”
In a daze, several shouts broke into his consciousness, shattering all the illusory scenes.
The bone-chilling coldness suddenly vanished, replaced by a warm embrace.
Mian hadn’t yet recovered from everything that had just happened.
He couldn’t open his eyes, but he could vaguely perceive the situation before him, as if separated from the outside world by a pane of glass; sounds and sensations were blurred.
It was somewhat like watching everything unfold from underwater.
He was currently being held half-cradled by Kairis.
Kairis frowned slightly, looking down at him, his lips drawn into a straight line, appearing somewhat tense.
Mian vaguely identified the person before him for a moment. After confirming it was indeed Kairis, he let out a sigh of relief.
“Loria, come in.” Kairis called out several times to the person who had inexplicably fainted in his arms, receiving no response. He then spoke toward the door, his voice subtly laced with anger.
Loria had been enjoying herself with the maids, laughter and chatter filling the outer room. The moment she heard her brother call her in that tone, she instantly fell silent.
The outside room immediately plunged into silence.
A moment later, Loria crept into the doorway of the inner room, her face showing clear guilt.
Then, seeing Mian leaning against her brother with his eyes closed and his lips pale, her guilt instantly turned into panic.
She had initially thought her brother had opened the box and was startled, which was why he was angry. So, her guilt was mixed with a little smug delight at having succeeded in her prank. But seeing the current situation, she couldn’t feel happy at all.
Loria quickly rushed to their side, looking at Mian and asking in alarm, “Brother, what happened to Brother Mian?”
Mian was leaning against Kairis with his eyes closed, his brow unconsciously furrowed slightly, and fine sweat beaded on his forehead, dampening his hair again, which had mostly dried after being soaked by the rain.
He looked entirely as if he had fallen into a terrifying nightmare but couldn’t be woken up.
“That question should be directed to you,” Kairis questioned coldly. “Where did this box come from?”
Loria froze, instantly realizing that Mian’s condition was due to the small box. Her eyes immediately filled with panic and surprise, and she anxiously explained, “How could this happen? I… I even waited until Brother Mian’s injuries healed before letting him play with it.”
Kairis ordered someone to fetch the medical officers, then looked at the troublemaker before him and said expressionlessly, “You have thirty seconds to explain what this thing does.”
“It’s just a toy for pranks…” Loria stammered, explaining, “It just suddenly conjures up the thing someone fears most when they are most focused, to give them a fright. That’s all, nothing else… I was scared too the first time I played with it.”
Kairis was noncommittal and countered, “What do you mean by ‘waited until his injuries healed’?”
“Well… it’s just that people in poorer health might be more affected, but for a normal person, it just gives them a scare.” Loria mumbled, her voice growing quieter. “I was worried that Brother Mian’s leg injury might affect him, so I specifically waited until he was better before…”
She knew that no matter how much she explained, it wouldn’t change the fact that she had caused trouble. The reality of her mistake was right before her.
“Your mischievous nature needs to change,” Kairis said coolly, frowning. “As a Princess, all you think about is playing around. Has everyone in this Royal Palace spoiled you too much?”
“Starting today, I am temporarily confiscating this room and everything inside it.”
Loria stood silently to the side, head bowed, unable to utter a single word of protest.
A moment later, she cautiously looked up. Seeing Mian’s current state, she felt deeply guilty.
With these two emotions intertwined, Loria pouted, looking like she was about to cry.
Before long, several medical officers arrived in a hurry and began examining Mian under Kairis’s instruction.
After a while, Kairis took a sweet-tasting pill from a medical officer and fed it into Mian’s mouth.
The next instant, Mian’s blurred consciousness plunged back into darkness.
…But thankfully, it was only darkness, and nothing else.
“Is his health very poor?” After the person in his arms swallowed the pill, his tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed a little. Kairis remembered Loria’s earlier words, frowned, and asked the nearest medical officer.
“He is very healthy, Prince,” the medical officer replied respectfully.
Kairis lowered his gaze and looked back at the small box.
After a moment of thought, he handed it to the medical officer. “Investigate this.”
The medical officer acknowledged the order.
He didn’t know how much time passed before Mian fully regained consciousness.
This feeling was different from before; it was like waking up after a good sleep. The biting coldness and baseless fear that had lingered around him had vanished without a trace.
Mian sighed in relief and closed his eyes to recover for a while.
He slowly opened his eyes. His emerald green eyes were moist, and there was a faint redness around the rims, making him look fragile and pitiful.
Seeing him wake up, Loria quickly rushed to his side. “Brother Mian, are you okay… Do you still recognize me?”
The soul-stirring illusion had finally dissipated, and everything before him returned to its usual lovely appearance.
Everything that had just happened was truly frightening. When he closed his eyes, it felt vivid. Mian subconsciously gripped the corner of an unknown garment nearby, then let go after regaining his senses.
“You are Loria.” Mian composed himself, looked at her, and comforted her, “I’m fine, you don’t need to worry too much.”
While unconscious, he had overheard some of the conversation between Loria and Kairis and learned the reason he had seen those things.
Mian thought his extreme reaction was probably because he wasn’t human.
Perhaps this item had a greater effect on the Dragon Race, he mused.
Seeing Mian like this, Loria’s voice suddenly choked up.
“Brother Mian, boohoo… I’m sorry.” She pouted, paused, and then, teary-eyed and earnest, declared, “I will definitely make it up to you!”
“Alright.” Mian was amused by her reaction and agreed, not taking her words too seriously.
He could tell that the current situation was unexpected for Loria, and she was quite startled by his reaction, so he didn’t dwell on the incident too much.
He just felt that his luck was truly a bit poor.
“How do you feel now?” As he was thinking, Kairis’s voice suddenly sounded above his head. Only then did Mian realize he was still leaning in his arms.
Perhaps because they had been lying there for a while, the areas where their clothes overlapped had completely absorbed each other’s body heat.
Mian instinctively wanted to get up immediately, but then suddenly remembered that Kairis would be living with him in the future. He hesitated for two seconds, then relaxed.
He still felt a little embarrassed.
Although he knew they would become partners in the future, he couldn’t quite grasp the reality of it, nor could he imagine what that scene would look like.
Recalling the way his older brother interacted with his partner, Mian paused, feeling that it was very different from how he and Kairis were.
They probably wouldn’t reach that level of closeness.
After all… after all, he always felt that Kairis didn’t seem to like him very much.
He must be dissatisfied with him, Mian thought, since no Princess would like a dragon weaker than herself…
Mian felt a little discouraged at this thought.
Kairis noticed the subtle change but couldn’t connect it to Mian’s wild thoughts. He assumed Mian was feeling unwell somewhere, so he frowned and was about to call the medical officer again.
“I’m fine now.” Mian snapped back to attention, not wanting to trouble anyone further. He quickly got up from Kairis’s embrace to prove his words were true.
As the person in his arms left, the cool air quickly invaded his embrace. The warmth he had grown accustomed to instantly vanished, leaving nothing behind.
Kairis paused imperceptibly, looked at the Little Dragon who had regained his vitality, and remained silent for a moment.
“It’s good that you’re fine,” he said calmly.
