    Chapter 20 Running Into

After seeing Mori off, Mian did not plan to return directly to the castle.

He wanted to wait here until the evening and then buy some gemstones he liked.

He actually really wanted the ruby that had just fallen to the ground, but Mori had come out to help him, which inadvertently cost him the chance to buy it immediately.

This made Mian feel a bit regretful.

He had already generally browsed all the gemstones on the wall and selected a few he liked. After the little interlude just now, Mian lost the interest to continue standing in front of that wall, so he turned and walked back toward the bar, planning to rest for a while.

He also wanted to see if those few men were still around.

If they were, he definitely wanted to ask them carefully what they had been discussing.

Mian was very concerned about the phrase “It’s a dragon” that they had mentioned.

Unfortunately, by the time Mian returned, the men had vanished. Their seats were empty, and there were a few empty wine glasses on the counter that the server hadn’t had time to clear.

Mian had no choice but to sit down in the original spot and zone out, involuntarily recalling all the events that had transpired today.

The conversation of those men made him uneasy, and Mori’s appearance made that feeling even more pronounced.

Why was Mori so anxious, telling him he was running out of time, and so eager to take him away?

Thinking of this, Mian even started to wonder if something had happened to the Dragon Race.

The moment this thought surfaced, his heart sank slightly.

He had stayed here for too long; he really should go home as soon as possible.

“Little brother, what are you doing here?”

Mian was frowning, lost in his own thoughts, when a soft, melodious voice suddenly sounded beside him.

Although the voice was easily identifiable as belonging to a male, the tone was low and soft, making one’s ears tingle. He subconsciously looked toward the source of the sound and realized that someone had sat down in the empty seat next to him without him noticing.

The person had long, jet-black hair that draped behind them like silk. Their features were delicate and beautiful, and they looked as androgynous as their voice.

If it weren’t for their height being significantly taller than a woman’s, one might genuinely mistake their gender.

“I came to find someone.” Mian noticed that the person was wearing the same uniform as the servers, and he thought he was sitting there obstructing them from tidying up. He quickly stood up and left the seat: “Excuse me, you go ahead and clean up.”

The person did not move, however.

The instant they clearly saw Mian’s face, a flash of astonishment crossed their eyes.

They had also noticed the incident that happened at the gemstone wall earlier, but because there were too many people and the distance was far, they hadn’t clearly seen the face of the young man in front of them.

Of course, they had not missed the scene where this person, who only needed to pay for one display case, offered without a second thought to buy the entire ruby.

The man made a calculation in his mind, realizing this was probably a young master from some noble family who had come out for some fun.

So refined and unfamiliar, he must be visiting here for the first time…

Thinking this, he smiled and spoke to Mian again. His voice carried a hint of huskiness, yet was perfectly soft, like a siren trying to bewitch someone: “Who are you looking for… Would you like to play with someone else?”

As he spoke, he flirtatiously tossed his hair.

Mian was a little confused by his words but still politely replied, “I already found him.”

Besides, he wasn’t here to find someone to play with today. He just wanted to bring a message to Miya and his sister, and incidentally buy some gemstones.

“Where is he?” The man looked around upon hearing this, then smiled back at Mian: “How can we let our distinguished guest wait here dryly? That would be too impolite.”

“He already left.” Mian found this person a bit strange, but he couldn’t pinpoint why. In any case, he didn’t want to continue chatting with him, so he tactfully said, “I’ll just stay here by myself. You go and be busy.”

Why was this person talking to him so casually when they didn’t even know each other?

His words also sounded a little odd…

The man looked at the pure, innocent expression of the young master before him and found it amusing. He must be inexperienced.

And dealing with this type of guest was his specialty.

This server was too strange. Mian frowned slightly and turned sideways, intending to leave.

But suddenly, a cold, soft touch landed on the back of his hand.

The chill was startling. Mian jumped, realizing the person had placed their hand on the back of his.

Before he could react, a voice laced with coldness suddenly rang out behind him.

    “Let go.”

Mian then watched, wide-eyed, as the person opposite him instantly lost their previous composure, staring blankly at the space behind Mian.

Snapping back to reality, the person quickly released Mian’s hand, rose from the seat, and stood aside, lowering their head submissively, their face unable to hide their panic and fear.

The entire Gemstone Tavern had suddenly become incredibly quiet at some point, and Mian only noticed it now.

His heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively turned his head.

Kairis, who had disappeared early in the morning and hadn’t been seen all day, was standing right behind him.

    They were very close now.

…For some reason, Mian suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of guilt.

Kairis was wearing his neat Prince’s everyday uniform, followed by a few Palace Guards. His entire presence seemed out of place in this tavern.

He was currently looking down at Mian, his dark purple eyes devoid of emotion.

…Or perhaps, not entirely devoid of emotion.

    Mian stared blankly.

Kairis looked at him, then withdrew his gaze.

The tavern owner, hearing his subordinate announce the arrival of Prince Kairis, scrambled out of the reception room, his face wreathed in smiles as he rushed forward to greet him: “Your… Your Highness, you’ve come?”

He was utterly confused, yet filled with dread.

Although their esteemed Prince lived in the Royal City, he was notoriously averse to visiting entertainment venues like theirs. For him to appear today, the owner wasn’t sure if he should feel honored.

Thinking this, he suddenly remembered it was the day of the gemstone exhibition, so he tentatively asked: “Are you perhaps here to select gemstones? Then please follow me, I will take you to the Secret Vault…”

“No need.” Kairis replied, then lightly glanced at Mian: “I came to find someone.”

He paused, then looked at the pale-faced man, and said casually in a flat voice, “Your tavern needs some tidying up.”

“Yes, yes, yes…” The owner followed his gaze to the subordinate, then looked at the boy standing in front of the Prince, instantly understanding something. He nodded and bowed repeatedly, his face white, agreeing profusely.

Having dealt with the eyesore, Kairis remained silent for a moment, then said to Mian under the watchful eyes of everyone: “Let’s go.”

Mian, however, uncharacteristically did not answer him immediately.

After a few seconds of silence, Mian looked up at Kairis and said earnestly, “I don’t want to leave yet.”

The tavern owner, standing closest, stumbled, nearly collapsing to his knees upon hearing this.
