IRLPLBIO Chapter 46 Part 1
by BLReads46th Episode #10. Open your mouth, the fraud is going in (3)
Woo Dong-hyeok, CEO of Woo-shin Pharmaceuticals, was so enraged he felt his head might explode.
His precious son’s teeth, from front to back, were all broken and chipped, making it impossible for him to chew food properly. Although a few teeth were fine for now, he was told they would soon loosen or fall out due to the impact. The thought of his beloved son having a tube inserted in his throat and being forced to consume only gruel for some time was utterly horrifying and heartbreaking.
He was told dental implants could be done, but how could they ever be the same as his real teeth? It would be incredibly uncomfortable and difficult for his son, who was barely in his late teens, to live with artificial teeth for decades to come.
Moreover, the lawyer he had finally hired was not very helpful. The moment he learned that the lawyer for that slippery Omega was from DK Law Firm and that the Dae-yeong Group was backing him, the lawyer became defensive.
At the end of his talk about not wanting to be at odds with the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, he admitted that it was indeed a problem for multiple Alphas on their side to threaten a single Omega first. At that moment, the fault ratio was reversed.
‘Idiots who can’t even tell who’s paying them.’
Woo Dong-hyeok cursed repeatedly under his breath. He couldn’t openly lose his temper in a hospital full of people, so his face just turned crimson.
A refreshing scent wafted past Woo Dong-hyeok’s nose as he fumed for a while. He couldn’t tell if it was perfume, pheromones, or a blend of both. However, his instinct as a “형질” (secondary gender) individual sensed that the other person was of a similar type to himself. Instantly, a calculator with countless numbers input popped into his mind.
The man who appeared before Woo Dong-hyeok as he suddenly lifted his head had a very clean-cut appearance. He was perhaps in his mid to late twenties.
However, he was covered in luxury brands from head to toe. A car on his jacket, an apartment on his wrist – the man’s face exuded an abundance of composure.
“Hi.”
The man casually greeted Woo Dong-hyeok and didn’t seem to mind that Woo Dong-hyeok stood there, unable to respond.
The man looked at himself in a mirror on one side of the corridor, ran a hand through his hair, then paused and pulled out some documents. Even his sharply structured leather bag had a small luxury logo on it. It was a model Woo Dong-hyeok hadn’t even been able to get his hands on.
The man quickly scanned the documents with his eyes, then murmured briefly.
“Targeted therapy… hmm, ‘pyojeok chiryo,’ ‘pyojeok chiryo.’ So, for pediatric leukemia patients…”
He had thought the man only spoke English, but his Korean was also fluent. Woo Dong-hyeok’s gaze continued to follow the man.
The man, who had been muttering for a while, belatedly seemed to notice Woo Dong-hyeok’s gaze, smiled brightly, and cheerfully said, “Sorry.” Judging by how smoothly his tongue moved, it sounded like an American accent.
When Woo Dong-hyeok gestured that it was fine, the man nodded and walked with light steps. His posture was neat, and his movements were sharply defined.
Woo Dong-hyeok unconsciously started to follow him. From the words “targeted therapy” and “pediatric leukemia patients,” he caught an unmistakable scent of profit. As the CEO of a pharmaceutical company, Woo Dong-hyeok was confident that, if nothing else, he understood matters concerning medicine better than anyone.
The man entered the indoor garden provided within the hospital. After looking around for a moment, he walked to one side.
“I’ve heard a lot about you, Mr. Han. I’m Leo Jeong.”
“The pleasure is mine. You mentioned you had a proposal. Ah, please, have a seat.”
The person who stood up and extended a hand to Leo Jeong, Jeong Seung-dae, was Han Yun-cheol. The strong candidate for Dae-yeong Group’s successor, the true power within Dae-yeong, currently holding the position of Head of Department at Dae-yeong Mulsan!
The numbers on the calculator in front of Woo Dong-hyeok’s eyes exploded. His intuition, having smelled money from that man, Leo Jeong, was accurate.
Seeing the solid line connecting that damned Omega who beat his son, to Park Kwang-cheol, and then to Han Yun-cheol, he felt it might be fortunate that he hadn’t provoked the Omega further. Though still furious, the outcome of weighing his son against profit was clear.
Woo Dong-hyeok gritted his teeth and discreetly hid himself. The indoor garden at Hanguk Daeyeong Byeongwon had an artificial waterfall in the center, making it easy to hide beyond the bends. However, to understand what they were saying, he had to concentrate intensely.
He lowered his body, almost sticking to the seating area, stretched his neck out, and strained his ears. Fortunately, Han Yun-cheol was the first to get to the point.
“You mentioned targeted therapy drugs.”
“Haha, that’s right. By the way, the facilities are excellent. The idea of using an indoor waterfall to regulate humidity…”
“Let’s skip the pleasantries. We don’t have ample time to probe each other, do we? Neither you nor I.”
“That’s true.”
Leo Jeong, Jeong Seung-dae, maintained his smiling face as he straightened his posture. A fleeting tension passed, but he showed no signs of nervously shifting his eyes or tapping his foot.
A moment later, a calmer Jeong Seung-dae looked directly at Han Yun-cheol. The young man’s spirit and confidence would frame his words and actions as ‘courage’ rather than recklessness.
“Given that you’ve called me here, may I assume your company is willing to invest in new drugs?”
“We are willing. If it’s a real new drug, that is.”
“What exactly are you trying to say?”
The atmosphere instantly sharpened. Even the hidden Woo Dong-hyeok held his breath for a moment.
Han Yun-cheol sighed lightly and raised a hand. It was a gesture indicating no intention to fight, so Jeong Seung-dae also calmed his breathing.
“Regarding leukemia, aren’t there already treatments circulating on the market? We don’t know how efficient a new drug would be, or how much it could replace existing ones.”
“Are you referring to Gleevec? It’s an excellent treatment, indeed. However, that’s a treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia. The mechanism of action is different from what I’m proposing.”
Jeong Seung-dae leaned towards Han Yun-cheol and whispered a few more words. His hushed, soft voice was drowned out by the sound of the waterfall and didn’t reach Woo Dong-hyeok’s ears.
A moment later, Woo Dong-hyeok only saw Han Yun-cheol nod his head.
