    Chapter Index

Jae-gu naturally entered not through the front door, but through the back door used by employees. As Jae-gu passed through the first-floor kitchen, Mrs. Hong, who managed the household, peered out, wiping her hands on her apron.

    “Jae-gu, did you eat dinner?”

    “No, I didn’t… I’m sorry…”

Even in his hazy state, his replies were proper.

His head felt numb, and he seemed to be running a slight fever. It appeared he had learned too much at once, leading to an overload.

The woman lightly shook her head at Jae-gu’s stumbling figure as he ascended to the second floor, then suddenly looked up as if something had occurred to her.

    “Oh, perhaps?”

Jae-gu had said he was an Omega. Mrs. Hong, while not knowing everything about Omegas, had basic knowledge. It was common knowledge that both Omegas and Alphas sometimes exhibited unusual behavior.

Although only three people actually lived in the house, two of them being “형질” individuals meant that medicine was prepared for such occasions.

The woman took out some medicine and poured a glass of water. It would be fortunate if nothing was wrong, but it would be better to take preventative measures before anything happened.

Just as she was about to pick up the tray, a large hand suddenly appeared and took the tray instead.

    “I’ll take it.”

“Yo-young, no, Kwang-cheol… when did you arrive?”

“Just now. Thank you for preparing this.”

Before her startled heart could calm down from Kwang-cheol’s sudden appearance, she was left dazed as he naturally took the tray. He had asked her to call him ‘student,’ just like Jae-gu, instead of the polite ‘young master,’ but the gravitas was entirely different.

In just a moment, her palms were drenched in sweat. It was due to the overwhelming presence her instincts perceived.

However, instead of thinking too deeply or questioning, Mrs. Hong simply wiped her hands on her apron.

Her job was merely to prepare meals and handle light cleaning. Thinking too much while working for a chaebol family was not helpful.

Jae-gu carelessly dropped his bag and stumbled into bed. He wrapped himself in the soft, fluffy blanket, curled up, and buried his head deep into the large pillow.

Yet, it wasn’t as comfortable as lying on his old flat, worn-out pillow. Not only had his living situation changed, but all the items he used had been replaced with luxurious new ones, which felt awkward.

Moreover, knowing too much at once made his head spin, unable to process everything. The thought of ‘I wish I had known sooner’ and ‘It’s a relief to know even now’ alternately plagued Jae-gu.

It was only the beginning, he hadn’t yet broken all of Han Seong-cheol’s limbs, and he still had so much more to do for Kwang-cheol…

But many things had changed. He was also seeing new aspects he hadn’t known before. Dealing with these changes and devising new countermeasures was difficult for Jae-gu’s mind.

Perhaps from thinking too much, he was starting to develop a fever. Jae-gu, clutching his aching head, curled his body into a ball.

Even as he groaned, sleep approached when he closed his eyes. In this situation, he was almost proud of his body for being so faithful to its instincts.

A moment later, the door silently opened.

Even in his hazy state, he heard the sound of a tray being carefully placed on the bedside table. He also felt the blanket being slightly pulled down. Jae-gu subtly turned his body, following a familiar scent.

The scent of stability and trust. It was Kwang-cheol.

Only then did Jae-gu’s body completely relax. His past memories unfolded. Behind his closed eyes, he seemed to see the cramped house where two grown men had to sleep pressed against each other.

A time when the blankets were thin, but the warmth of their bodies pressed together was comforting. An earlier time when he never imagined there would be complicated or difficult matters.

To the returned Jae-gu, it felt like a distant past, but in reality, it had only been a few months ago.
