    Chapter Index

However, Han Yun-cheol had recently noticed something unusual. Up until now, he had been at ease because no one in Dae-yeong’s direct lineage had manifested a secondary gender. But his younger brother, Han Seong-cheol, had been exhibiting strange behaviors. He was smelling scents others couldn’t detect, or instinctively discerning individuals with secondary genders. These actions were almost identical to the symptoms shown before a secondary gender manifestation.

Now that he thought about it, Alphas and Omegas usually manifested before adulthood. This meant his younger brother, Han Seong-cheol, could manifest as an Alpha.

Alpha. That damned Alpha secondary gender kept blocking Han Yun-cheol’s path.

If Han Seong-cheol didn’t manifest, it wouldn’t matter. Even if he did manifest, it would be fine if his secondary gender was a very weak recessive Alpha.

But what if he was a ‘proper’ Alpha? What if the Dae-yeong Group wanted to make Han Seong-cheol, the second son and an Alpha, the next Chairman instead of Han Yun-cheol, the eldest son? What if his father and grandfather took notice of Han Seong-cheol and backed him?

    “…That can’t happen.”

So, Han Yun-cheol sent Han Seong-cheol to a distant province. On the surface, it appeared Han Seong-cheol had volunteered, but in reality, it was Han Yun-cheol who instigated him. A single remark like ‘Grandfather seems interested in that area’ was enough to manipulate his foolish younger brother.

Siblings were in a competitive relationship. They could amicably share 50,000 won, but if that amount became 500 million, 500 billion, or 5 trillion won, the story was bound to change.

At the crossroads of inheriting a conglomerate worth trillions, he could easily push his own brother away to prevent him from getting the prize. If necessary, he was even willing to dig a trap beneath Han Seong-cheol’s feet and lure him into it.

Han Yun-cheol toyed with the nameplate once more.

The position of Dae-yeong’s successor was his. If Han Seong-cheol threatened him, he would not hesitate to stab him.

He hoped it wouldn’t come to that, but there were some things in the world that couldn’t be helped.

The next day, Han Seong-cheol brought a small, colorful, pretty new model mobile phone. He had pressed the secretary’s office in the middle of the night to have them delivered, and there were not one, but two.

Let’s see if you still reject me after this.

Han Seong-cheol triumphantly offered the mobile phones to Jae-gu. Jae-gu, of course, didn’t take the boxed items immediately.

    “What is it?”

    “They’re for you to have.”

“…Why are you giving this to me?”

Jae-gu distanced himself a little more. His suspicious gaze and wary demeanor intensified.

It was strange. To be so cautious even when given a gift, what kind of guy was he? Han Seong-cheol, who hadn’t considered such a scenario, had no decent answer to offer.

    “Just… because they’re a pair.”

Jae-gu didn’t believe Han Seong-cheol’s words. Han Seong-cheol wasn’t someone who offered favors without reason.

He was always the type whose eyes glowed red trying to extract more than the investment cost. What was he trying to get in return for giving mobile phones?

As Jae-gu openly showed his caution and slowly widened the distance, Joo Hae-jun whispered to him.

“He’s already figured out who the real power is.”

    “What?”

“He’s doing that to get into your good graces, isn’t he? It’s obvious if you look.”

Joo Hae-jun puffed up, as if he had grasped a profound truth, but Jae-gu was simply dumbfounded.

Han Seong-cheol wasn’t someone who cared about “real power” or anything like that. If need be, he would just sweep everything away with his formidable wealth and authority. Jae-gu wasn’t some legendary fighter who had unified the country, so what would Han Seong-cheol care about rankings decided by high schoolers fighting in the neighborhood?

Annoyed at having to explain everything, Jae-gu waved his hand dismissively.

    “I’m not taking that.”

    “…Why not?”

“Yeah, why aren’t you taking it! This is a new model!”

The unhelpful Joo Hae-jun raised his voice as if supporting Han Seong-cheol.

“What’s the point of just having the device? I have to pay the monthly fee. No thanks, I don’t have money to spend on that.”

    “I’ll pay the fee.”

“How generous. He says he’ll pay the fee, take it!”

Joo Hae-jun was more excited than Jae-gu. As if he couldn’t hear Han Seong-cheol’s voice, which was almost grinding his teeth, Joo Hae-jun even wiggled his bottom.
