Chapter 34: Rescue or Better Not Sleep

Fire raged through the experiment building.

Yue Hang was strapped into the capsule, his face ashen. His mental power was being rapidly drained to power the mecha. This was a form of punishment Yu Wan Yao had devised, said to have originated from the military. Human mental power was an excellent nutrient for mecha. Whenever a Black Market subordinate made a mistake, they would be locked in the experiment building to “feed” the mecha. The duration could be a few hours or as long as four or five days. Those with weaker mental power often died on the spot.

He hadn’t expected Yu Wan Yao to be so ruthless this time.

However, there had been clues. His Shenfeng exploration team had been underperforming, and he hadn’t taken Yu Wan Yao’s repeated warnings to heart, focusing instead on protecting his teammates’ lives. Furthermore, after recruiting Liang Huan, the latter had shone brightly. Yu Wan Yao probably had the idea of replacing him. After all, he and Yu Wan Yao weren’t of one mind…

The pain of mental power depletion was far more torturous than physical injury. In his dazed state, he thought, Liang Huan had saved his life after all. He would treat this as repaying that debt—

    Bang!

A deafening explosion suddenly erupted outside the capsule, followed by the voices of Lu Biao and Deng Meng.

“How do you open this thing?” Lu Biao looked anxiously at the countless buttons.

Deng Meng was even more bewildered. He grabbed a nearby worker, “Open this thing!”

The worker had a gun pointed at his head and stammered, “I, I can’t open it either. You need Mr. Yu’s authorization. Don’t kill me, please don’t kill me!”

“Damn Yu Wan Yao!” Lu Biao angrily kicked the worker aside.

The other members of the Shenfeng team were extremely anxious but dared not act rashly, fearing they might hurt Yue Hang inside. Just as everyone was in a state of panic, Liang Huan walked in, carrying a crowbar.

“Excuse me, everyone, please make way.” He spoke very politely.

Lu Biao and Deng Meng visibly relaxed upon seeing him. Lu Biao said, “Brother Liang, what do we do? We can’t open this experiment capsule. Mr. Yu’s people will be here soon. We’ll be too late!”

Liang Huan stared for a moment at the hundreds of densely packed buttons on the console next to him and said, “I’ll do it.”

Lu Biao exclaimed with joy, “Great, the boss is saved—”

Before he could finish speaking, he saw Liang Huan turn around with the crowbar and smash it into the experiment capsule. The explosion and flames instantly engulfed the entire capsule.

Lu Biao’s face turned pale. Deng Meng and the others stood there in stunned silence.

Chen Jia, who had run in from behind carrying a fire extinguisher, was frantically spraying the experiment capsule. Liang Huan directly reached out and pulled Yue Hang out of the experiment capsule. Seeing his pale face, he reached out to pat the dust off his shoulders, straightened his collar, and said kindly, “Yue Hang, are you alright?”

Yue Hang hadn’t recovered from the shock of being lifted with one hand. The mental torture and the impact of the explosion had left his mind blank. He said in astonishment, “How did you come?”

“You’re my brother. If I didn’t come, who would?” Liang Huan laughed, “Besides, you’re being punished in my place. I thought Mr. Yu was just demoting you, but he actually used torture on you.”

“Yeah, boss. As soon as Brother Liang heard you were being tortured in the experiment building, he rushed in to save you without saying a word.” Lu Biao said excitedly, “That bastard Yu Wan Yao was going to leave you here all night. Anyone who came out would be ruined! And you were willing to come!”

Deng Meng helped support Yue Hang, “Captain, Brother Liang would never sit idly by.”

Chen Jia breathed a heavy sigh of relief and gave Liang Huan a thumbs up, “Brother Liang, I’ve never seen anyone dare to open an experiment capsule with a crowbar in my life. I’m truly impressed this time.”

Yue Hang looked at Liang Huan with mixed feelings. Liang Huan smiled, “Don’t say such sentimental things. Let’s get out of here quickly.”

Yue Hang nodded vigorously, forcing back the sobs that welled up in his throat.

They quickly went downstairs. Lu Biao led the way, but he soon returned, shouting, “Brother Liang, it’s bad. Yu Wan Yao’s bodyguards are blocking all the exits! We can’t get out!”

Everyone turned to Liang Huan, including Yue Hang. Yue Hang said with a wry smile, “It looks like we’ve completely broken with Yu Wan Yao. What do you say we do? I’ll listen to you.”

Liang Huan supported him, gripping his hand tightly, and said in a deep voice, “The exits are all blocked. This building probably won’t last long either. The Shenfeng mecha is in here. We’ll get into the mecha and charge straight out.”

Yue Hang was startled by his boldness, “You mean drive away Shenfeng?”

“Yu Wan Yao took an armored vehicle from us. It’s only reasonable to take a mecha as well.” Liang Huan led them upstairs.

Lu Biao said, “But Shenfeng needs Yu Wan Yao’s gene authorization. I’m afraid we can’t drive it away.”

Liang Huan took out the authorization sample he was holding. Lu Biao was shocked, “Brother Liang, how did you get that?”

“Of course, I tricked him into giving it to me.” Liang Huan threw the sample to Jing Si, “You drive. Everyone else, enter the mecha’s internal operating room.”

Jing Si nodded and rushed up first.

A few minutes later, the massive Shenfeng mecha burst through the burning experiment building. The bodyguards outside were all taken aback. Someone urgently notified Yu Wan Yao, “Mr. Yu, they’ve taken your mecha Shenfeng!! Should we use suppressive fire?”

“Suppressive fire, my ass.” Yu Wan Yao said coldly, “What if Shenfeng gets damaged? Block them symbolically and let them run into the underground.”

“Yes.” The bodyguard immediately didn’t dare to say anything more.

Yu Wan Yao watched the real-time surveillance on the screen. In front of the collapsing experiment building, Shenfeng lifted its foot and crushed an armored vehicle. By coincidence, it was the same stolen military armored vehicle that Yue Hang had previously “offered up”. Watching Shenfeng’s foot being engulfed by the flames of the armored vehicle, he couldn’t tell which he felt more heartbroken about. The muscles on his face were twitching unnaturally.

“Father, do you really believe what Liang Huan said?” Pei Zhong walked to his side, watching the Shenfeng mecha gradually break through the bodyguard’s fire blockade, “What if he’s lying?”

“We have no way out now. If we don’t seize the time to find the black box, the military will not let me go.” Yu Wan Yao clenched the armrest of his chair, “Moreover, Li Yao may seem violent, but he’s actually loyal and values relationships. Liang Huan’s words are somewhat credible.”

He squinted his eyes in front of the firelight on the screen, “If Li Yao comes to rescue Liang Huan, it means he’s not lying. Li Yao is indeed deeply in love with him. Then we can justifiably force Liang Huan and Li Yao to the lower eighth level, use their hands to eliminate Lou Chu, and control Li Yao. If Li Yao doesn’t come—then Liang Huan’s move is a waste. We’ll kill them on the spot, blame it on Lou Chu, and take the opportunity to take back the lower eighth level. Either way, we won’t lose.”

This was also the reason Liang Huan had convinced him. He couldn’t find Liang Huan’s motive for daring to tell such a big lie, so Yu Wan Yao was very confident in this plan.

Pei Zhong’s mechanical hand rested on the back of the chair behind him, his expression unclear.

He always felt that something was strange about this matter.

The Shenfeng mecha traveled very quickly on the street, but the bodyguards behind him couldn’t shake them off for a long time. The threat of the shells was extremely strong, although they were afraid that Shenfeng would not really fall into their hands.

Yue Hang was meticulous in his thinking. He sat in the treatment bay with a pale face and said to Liang Huan, “The Black Market’s mecha entrance and exit must be opened by Yu Wan Yao himself. If we keep hiding in the mecha, we definitely won’t be able to escape the Black Market. If we leave the mecha, they will definitely kill us. The only way now is to escape to the lower seventh level, but the mecha entrance to the lower seventh level must be opened by someone outside. Their firepower is so strong, I’m afraid our ammunition will be difficult to blast open the entrance. The chance is too slim.”

“Don’t worry, someone is coming to meet us.” Liang Huan got up, casually handed the crowbar to the person next to him, and walked to the mecha’s exit, “They’re here.”

Yue Hang, Deng Meng and others followed his line of sight and looked out.

In the dark night sky, blue tails of flame pierced the sky. In the roar of the engine, a silver hovercar went straight through the gunfire and sped towards them.

Lu Biao said in astonishment, “It’s a mercenary’s car!”

Deng Meng widened his eyes, “It’s Li Yao—”

Liang Huan patted their shoulders one by one and pushed them away, “Take care of Yue Hang. I’ll go help you open the door.”

Before Deng Meng and Lu Biao had time to turn their heads, Liang Huan directly pressed the mecha detachment button in front of them. Amidst the shouts of the crowd, he jumped down from the head of Shenfeng and smiled at the speeding silver hovercar.

Li Yao recognized who the person jumping down from the mecha was almost at a glance. He suddenly floored the accelerator, opened the top of the hovercar and flew towards Liang Huan at high speed. In the gunfire and the shouts of the crowd, he controlled the hovercar in a cool and exaggerated drift, catching Liang Huan steadily at the critical moment.

Liang Huan sat in the passenger seat, slowly exhaled, turned his head and smiled at him, “Li Yao, I knew it—”

“Puke!” As soon as Li Yao met his eyes, his stomach churned, and he turned his head and threw up on the car window.

    Liang Huan: “…”

He vomited so hard that he wanted to throw up his liver and gallbladder. Seeing that his muscles were beginning to spasm, Liang Huan decisively switched the driver’s seat, “I’ll drive.”

Li Yao had lost half his life before he even started, leaning on the passenger seat with a pale face, still stubbornly giving him the middle finger to show friendship.

Liang Huan directly grabbed his cold hand, “Thank you for coming to save me.”

Li Yao struggled for a moment but couldn’t break free, leaning half-dead on the seat, his voice hoarse, “I fuck your ancestor.”

“That’s not appropriate. I’m your legal husband.” Liang Huan turned his head, his eyes deeply gazing into his eyes, “Did you take medicine before you came?”

For some reason, although Liang Huan asked seriously and looked sincere, as if he was caring for him, Li Yao still had the urge to kick him out of the car.

“Where are you driving?” Li Yao finally recovered after a couple of minutes, only to find that Liang Huan’s route was completely opposite to the Black Market exit.

“Yue Hang and the others are too many people. The mecha can’t get out. We can only escape to the lower seventh level first.” The hovercar sped towards the lower seventh level’s mecha entrance. Liang Huan skillfully opened the ammunition box on his hovercar.

Li Yao raised his hand to stop him, but once again his hand was tightly gripped.

In the exploding firelight and the roar of the mecha, darkness quickly swallowed the thin light in the hovercar. A warm sensation came from his palm. He met Liang Huan’s gentle and calm gaze and heard Liang Huan’s voice with a hint of a smile:

“Li Yao, are you ready to live and die with me?”

He finally realized belatedly—he had been royally played by Liang Huan.
