    Chapter 24: Truth (Part 1)

“But you’re just a substitute.” Ji Yuxin’s words echoed in Shen Jue’s mind, verbatim. Shen Jue thought he had forgotten it already; he should have been indifferent to that conversation with Ji Yuxin that night.

Shen Jue crouched down, staring intently at the photograph. Ji Yuanan must have liked this person very much to carefully preserve the photo, even using it as a bookmark. Now that he thought about it, perhaps Ji Yuanan hadn’t refused his kiss because of that extremely similar face.

Silently, he placed the photo back, continuing to search for the document. Perhaps because of this little interlude, Shen Jue found it easily. He put the document into a folder and then took a taxi to Ji Yuanan’s company.

On the way, with nothing to do, Shen Jue typed Ji Yuanan’s name into the browser. The first search result was a Baidu Baike page, using Ji Yuanan’s own photo as the background. Shen Jue clicked on it, and inside were detailed records of Ji Yuanan’s life, down to the schools he attended at various stages.

Shen Jue glanced through it and discovered that Ji Yuanan had attended the same high school as him. Someone as outstanding as Ji Yuanan must have been very famous in high school, but Shen Jue had no memory of Ji Yuanan at all.

He suppressed the strangeness in his heart, withdrawing from the Baidu Baike page with some annoyance.

At this moment, the car happened to enter a tunnel, and the surroundings quickly darkened. Shen Jue saw his face reflected on the phone screen. Could there really be two people who are not related by blood but look alike?

    Shen Jue didn’t know.

The car stopped at the entrance of the company, Shen Jue got out of the car and walked straight into the company. The receptionist saw a tall man wearing a mask walk in. He took off his mask and said to the receptionist: “Hello, I am looking for Ji Yuanan.”

The receptionist’s smile immediately froze on her face. First, she said “Sorry” and then asked: “Do you have an appointment?”

Shen Jue, who was called in on short notice, hadn’t expected that an appointment was needed. He was momentarily at a loss.

The receptionist seemed to have guessed Shen Jue’s silence, and said: “President Ji’s schedule is full today. You can make an appointment for tomorrow, and then come again tomorrow.”

“Mr. Shen.” Shen Jue was suddenly called.

He turned his head and saw Ji Yuanan’s secretary walking towards Shen Jue. She stopped in front of Shen Jue and proactively said: “President Ji is in a meeting, he asked me to pick you up. Please follow me.” So Shen Jue followed the secretary to the elevator. The secretary took Shen Jue to Ji Yuanan’s office, allowing Shen Jue to rest and wait here.

“Let me get you a glass of water.”

Shen Jue originally wanted to deliver the document and leave, but before he could refuse, the secretary had walked quite a distance, and he completely lost the opportunity to refuse.

Since this was the case, Shen Jue sank into the sofa, giving up the idea of leaving now. Taking advantage of the secretary’s absence, Shen Jue began to blatantly observe the furnishings of the office, and was stunned when his gaze swept to the desk.

There was a water glass on the desk, which looked like a ceramic cup. Shen Jue had seen something similar before, it was a birthday gift Shen Jue had received not long ago.

Shen Jue’s eyes were glued to the ceramic cup. The secretary came late, bringing him warm water.

Shen Jue didn’t drink the water immediately, but chatted with the secretary: “Your president’s water cup looks pretty good.”

“Oh.” The secretary’s eyes swept to the water glass and said: “It seems that President Ji made it himself, and he likes this water cup very much.”

“The meeting should be over soon, please wait a little longer, President Ji will be here soon.” The secretary said again. Seeing that Shen Jue didn’t mean to leave, she left with peace of mind.

However, Shen Jue was far less calm than the secretary thought. He was eager to verify some guesses, so he hoped that Ji Yuanan could come quickly.

The next second, Ji Yuanan seemed to hear his prayer and really came. He took off his black suit jacket, hung it on his arm, and then called out to Shen Jue.

Shen Jue responded and looked over. Ji Yuanan took a few more steps forward, picked up the document on the desk, and said to Shen Jue, “Thank you.”

Shen Jue kept staring at him. Ji Yuanan became a little uncomfortable from being stared at, so he asked, “What’s wrong?”

Ji Yuanan’s expression was as usual. Shen Jue looked at him, thinking that if he hadn’t helped Ji Yuanan find the document today, the book hadn’t fallen, he hadn’t come, hadn’t seen the ceramic cup, how long would they have misunderstood each other?

He slowly opened his mouth: “When I was helping you find the document, I accidentally knocked off a book. There was a photo clipped inside…”

But before Shen Jue could finish speaking, Ji Yuanan preemptively and decisively admitted: “It’s you.”

Shen Jue stopped talking. Seeing this, Ji Yuanan said, “What else do you want to ask?”

Ji Yuanan knew a lot of things, including the part of his memory that Shen Jue had lost, such as they knew each other in high school, although Shen Jue later forgot, and that he had liked Shen Jue since high school, so he later married Shen Jue. But none of that mattered to Shen Jue, he only had one question he wanted to ask at this moment: “So the important person you mentioned before is me?”

    “It’s you.”

    That important person is you.

Shen Jue is also Ji Yuanan’s special person.

The two people’s lips were tightly pressed together, not knowing when. Without any warning, when Shen Jue realized it, Ji Yuanan had already begun to tentatively probe into his mouth. Shen Jue was a little dizzy from the kiss and realized for the first time that kissing was so comfortable, completely different from yesterday’s kiss.

Ji Yuanan finally let him go, so Shen Jue had the opportunity to say the sentence: “I like you too.”
