Chapter 12: Leaving the Mountain – Lifting the Veil, Who Are You?

Ordinarily, Chao Jianxue was taller than Yu Wei, so carrying him would be strenuous. Yet, he managed to keep Chao Jianxue’s feet off the ground, floating him back to his Qingxue Abode.

Yu Wei had only been to the courtyard before, never inside the room.

Unlike his own residence, as soon as he stepped into the inner room, he was distracted by the intricate trinkets.

Chao Jianxue had an extravagant personality and liked flashy, impractical objects. Goldware and lacquerware were dazzling, various ornaments filled a cabinet to the brim, and there were even gold-shaped birds that contained a mechanism, making cooing sounds and flapping their shiny golden wings.

The floor was even covered with a soft carpet, so silent to walk on.

Chao Jianxue dazedly struggled free from Yu Wei and jumped onto his own bed, “Thank you, Junior Brother, you can go back now.”

Even drunk, he was still polite.

Yu Wei, holding the lantern, looked around and finally placed it next to a hollowed-out golden vase with a sprig of plum blossoms, their heights staggered, creating a unique effect.

He relit the mandarin ducks, and the spirit-infused ducks spontaneously swam, the peacock-feathered plumage reflected in the paper’s watery image, and the warm yellow lamplight illuminated a corner of the inner room.

On the desk were several stacks of Wuwei cultivation manuals. Out of habit, Yu Wei neatly stacked them, revealing the notes underneath.

At a glance, the handwriting on the paper was messy, some were copies of the inner workings, some were drawings of sword techniques, with several stick figures with splayed limbs.

    “…”

Unwilling to linger, he glanced back at Chao Jianxue, who was deeply drunk, but well-behaved, simply falling asleep headfirst.

However, he hadn’t changed his clothes or taken off his shoes and socks.

Yu Wei stood there, pondering for a moment, then stepped forward and grabbed Chao Jianxue’s ankle.

It was slender and moderate in his palm, and through the smooth silk clothes, he could control it with one hand.

Chao Jianxue struggled and kicked at him, but he only used a little force to restrain him, took off his shoes, and neatly placed them by the bed.

Now his brow relaxed, and he left the Qingxue Abode without looking back.

The power of the Windflower Dew was more potent than Chao Jianxue had imagined. In his daze, he even dreamed that he had become the number one disciple of the Wuwu Sect, with drums and gongs sounding, marrying a rich and beautiful woman, and reaching the pinnacle of life.

The Head and the Tianyao Sect all came to congratulate him.

He wore red and green, with a large red flower pinned to his chest, smiling to reveal eight neat teeth, holding a large red satin ribbon, the other end held by a figure with a red veil over their head.

What a gentle and graceful beauty it must be!

Chao Jianxue couldn’t wait to lift the other person’s veil, but the beauty flipped it up with a backhand, revealing Junior Brother Yu Wei’s impassive Guanyin face: “I told you, drinking alcohol is not conducive to cultivation.”

Chao Jianxue was so frightened that he scrambled off the bed and opened his eyes in a daze.

In that one glance, he saw a dark figure pounce on him, the tip of the sword raised in its hand, snow-bright, stirring a trembling cold light in the moonlight, like a life-reaping executioner.

Chao Jianxue rolled on the spot, and the sword tip pierced the carpet in front of his eyes, the blade reflecting his own terrified pupils.

Who was trying to kill him!

Could it be the Tianyao Sect?

The dark figure moved extremely fast. Chao Jianxue, with his small Foundation Establishment cultivation, had no power to fight back. He managed to dodge twice, his back slammed into the treasure shelf, and the scattered objects on it fell to the ground.

This time, the dark figure’s sharp light aimed straight at his face.

    My life is over!

Suddenly, a ray of spiritual light struck the dark figure, who cried out in pain and leaped out of the window, disappearing without a trace.

For a moment, the trees outside rustled and shook, there were sounds of chasing and clashing blades. Chao Jianxue hid behind the treasure shelf, his soul still not settled.

After a moment, Lord Qishan walked in: “It’s alright. It’s a pity I used an avatar to see you, and he got away.”

Chao Jianxue’s face was pale, not a word entered his ears. After a long while, he found the strength to get up.

“Someone really came to kill me… Is it the Tianyao Sect?”

Lord Qishan: “Even if it’s the Tianyao Sect, they wouldn’t leave evidence for us to find them.”

Chao Jianxue: “Aren’t there sect restrictions and the restrictions on my Qingxue Abode? How did he fly in?”

Lord Qishan smiled: “Restrictions have loopholes, besides, do you think the restrictions on the Qingxue Abode can stop someone above the Nascent Soul stage? It’s not an iron shield.”

Chao Jianxue was sullen, he really thought that having restrictions meant he could rest easy.

“It doesn’t matter, I’ll strengthen the restrictions for you tomorrow, and I’ll tell your teacher as well.”

Chao Jianxue nodded vigorously: “Thank you, Father.”

Lord Qishan nodded: “In the future, you must be more careful yourself. Now that your soul is complete, you should cultivate diligently.”

Without him saying so, just the thought of someone wanting his life made him feel like a sword was hanging over his head. Chao Jianxue had no choice but to work hard.

Chao Jianxue said wryly: “Fortunately, Father arrived in time.”

Lord Qishan smiled at him: “Yes, I almost forgot, I came to ask you, do you want to go to Water Moon Valley?”

    Chao Jianxue was stunned.

“Didn’t my teacher say that my cultivation isn’t enough to go down the mountain…”

“Lord Mu Yuan is always overly cautious. You’re at this age, always staying in the sect is too regrettable. Didn’t I give you a lot of magical treasures? One of them doesn’t even need spiritual power to save your life. Immortal Artifacts are being born in Water Moon Valley, that’s a good thing, maybe you can find a bargain? It can also help you cultivate.”

Chao Jianxue’s eyes gradually brightened: “Father means…”

Lord Qishan nodded approvingly: “If you want to go, then go. Cultivation is about venturing out, don’t be timid. I’ll teach you another trick.”

He made a hand seal, and a wisp of spiritual thought floated into Chao Jianxue’s sea of consciousness, it was a disguise technique.

“Once you learn it, you can go down the mountain.” Lord Qishan smiled.

The disguise technique of a Great Ascension stage cultivator was naturally flawless, even the voice could be changed accordingly. However, Chao Jianxue’s cultivation was limited, and he had to replenish the technique every twelve hours.

Chao Jianxue was extremely moved, it turned out that Lord Qishan had seen his expectations.

As he was about to leave, Lord Qishan raised the lantern under the plum blossoms and turned it around, smiling: “Mandarin ducks playing in the water, back then…”

He also drank wine with Lord Mu Yuan, his tone was nostalgic, Chao Jianxue was perking up his ears to hear about the past, but he didn’t say anything, and his figure immediately dispersed into tiny, bright specks of light.

Chao Jianxue realized belatedly that it was not Lord Qishan’s real body that came to his room, but only a shadow clone. Lord Qishan himself should still be drinking with his teacher on the Moon Gazing Platform.

Barely escaping death, and having close contact with a big shot’s strength, his deeply rooted materialism was shaken. He sat blankly on the edge of the bed to clear his mind.

He sat there until dawn, his sea of consciousness having chewed up and memorized the disguise technique inside and out.

The first time he cast the spell was very difficult. When he looked in the mirror, he saw a person with a crooked face and mouth, he was startled and quickly transformed again.

After trying countless times, he finally created a plain, ordinary face. Looking closely, only the eyes were about seventy percent like his own.

    That was enough.

Instead of shrinking back in the room, it was better to take the initiative to seek change.

So in the following days, he diligently cultivated in the Qingxue Abode, finally waiting for the news of his teacher’s closed-door cultivation. He found a clear and sunny day, and quietly followed the disciples who were going down the mountain out of the Wuwu Sect.
