Chapter 2 The Omega in the Aristocratic School 2 What are you looking at?

Over ten days ago, that was the first time Lu Qingyun met Shen Zhifan. After repeatedly pressing the system, he finally managed to call it out once and successfully extracted the Protagonist Shou’s information.

Shen Zhifan, despite being a protagonist, was not happy. A car accident took his father, and severe illness stole his mother, leaving behind a six-year-old younger brother. Shen Zhifan, who was only fifteen at the time, had to drop out of school to support the entire family.

Lu Qingyun learned that Shen Zhifan’s younger brother, named Shen Zhinian, was exactly nine years old today and attended Sunshine Elementary School in A City.

Although he didn’t know what he looked like, having a fixed location made him easier to find than Shen Zhifan.

Lu Qingyun didn’t like to procrastinate. With the information in hand, he immediately prepared to leave. As he reached the Dormitory door, one of his roommates suddenly said that it would rain soon. Lu Qingyun turned his head and saw the speaker picking up his phone, seemingly not talking to him.

This was normal. Everyone in this school was arrogant and generally disdained talking to him, often looking at him with strange eyes. Lu Qingyun interpreted this as contempt. He didn’t care much; he and his roommates were the same—even living in the same place, they barely interacted. So, he didn’t think the roommate was trying to remind him.

However, since he heard it, Lu Qingyun closed the door again, went back to find the umbrella in the original owner’s closet, and left once more.

Perhaps the time spent constantly asking for directions on the way delayed him significantly. When he was almost there, he saw many people flowing in the opposite direction. It looked like school was out. This made the crowd dense and chaotic, making it a bit difficult to find someone.

Just then, the rain began to fall, subtly threatening to intensify. Lu Qingyun opened his umbrella. The umbrella was perhaps too old and worn; the shaft was slightly rusty, and one corner sagged after being opened. Lu Qingyun glanced at it, calmly shifted his gaze, and turned back.

He figured this trip could serve as route familiarization.

The sudden shift from clear skies to rain caught many parents picking up their children unprepared; only a few had umbrellas. The road instantly became congested.

Lu Qingyun mingled in the crowd, still memorizing the route. There was a supermarket by the roadside, and the owner, seeing the rain, quickly brought out umbrellas to sell. Umbrellas gradually increased on the road, squeezing against each other. Several short children walking with the flow were just covered by the umbrellas.

A short boy also squeezed under Lu Qingyun’s umbrella. Perhaps seeing no reaction from him, the boy grew bolder, adjusting his pace to match Lu Qingyun’s, openly taking shelter under the umbrella.

Lu Qingyun memorized the route for a while. Seeing a familiar stretch of road, he finally had time to look at the child beside him. He was quite well-behaved.

The boy saw the umbrella owner looking over and was about to run, but in that moment, he clearly saw Lu Qingyun’s face, and his legs stiffened, rooting him to the spot.

The world of children is the simplest. Seeing a good-looking person, his legs were firmly planted, and he smiled foolishly.

    “Brother, you look so handsome.”

Lu Qingyun gave a slight smile in response. He tilted the umbrella slightly. Although he didn’t speak, this counted as acknowledgment from a stranger.

The two walked together for a while. At a fork in the road, Lu Qingyun prepared to turn left, catching a glimpse of the hesitation on the boy’s face.

For some unknown reason, Lu Qingyun felt a rare urge to help.

The transparent umbrellas nearby cost only ten yuan each, which translated to one yuan in the real world. Lu Qingyun led the child to the roadside. The umbrella vendor, seeing customers, skillfully handed out the QR code for payment. Lu Qingyun glanced at it, calmly took out his old-fashioned button phone, flipped open the back cover, and pulled out a ten-yuan bill.

This old button phone belonged to the original owner. He didn’t plan to spend extra money in this world; all the money he earned had to be saved for his real-world self, so he kept using it. The phone, with a case, was quite convenient for storing cash.

The ten yuan bill wasn’t immediately taken. Lu Qingyun lifted his eyes and met the vendor’s strange gaze. Lu Qingyun frowned slightly and asked, “What is it?”

The vendor was stunned, quickly took the money, and waved his hand, “Nothing.”

In that moment, he was shocked by the coldness emanating from the pale-faced man, who looked so gentle…

Lu Qingyun picked out an umbrella and handed it to the boy next to him, preparing to leave. He didn’t like socializing much and rarely spoke unless necessary.

As he turned around, he saw a man standing not far away, holding an umbrella and looking at him, having watched for an unknown amount of time.

When Lu Qingyun looked over, the man didn’t hide his gaze but met his eyes.

Lu Qingyun frowned, feeling a sense of revulsion. He hated being stared at.

He had finally done a good deed, only to be scrutinized by two strange gazes. He really wanted to gouge out their eyes, Lu Qingyun thought, as bad ideas constantly surfaced. His tone was not pleasant when he spoke.

    “What are you looking at…”

His voice was a bit cold; anyone could hear his displeasure. Shen Zhifan quickly averted his gaze, waved his hand, and rushed over to explain.

“Sorry, I wasn’t looking at you on purpose. No, I mean, this is my little brother.” Shen Zhifan stammered under Lu Qingyun’s stare, feeling increasingly tongue-tied. His sentence became illogical and inverted, and his face was full of helplessness. The tall young man lowered his head, “Anyway, I apologize for the offense.”

The child beside them happened to speak up, breaking the tense atmosphere, “Brother, why are you here?”

He looked up curiously at his older brother, who was bowing his head in apology.

Shen Zhifan pressed his brother’s head, then remembered something. He fumbled and pulled out a brand new ten-yuan bill, handing it to Lu Qingyun, “Oh right, here’s the money for the umbrella.”

Lu Qingyun’s expression softened. He took the money and lifted his foot, ready to leave.

The person beside him gathered his courage, speaking a sentence faster and faster, “Um, I’m Shen Zhifan. Could we… exchange contact information?”

Lu Qingyun’s leg trembled, and he froze in place.

    Shen what-fan?

Oh, Shen Zhifan. This was the protagonist. What had he just done to his protagonist? Lu Qingyun’s expression changed repeatedly, but he calmed himself down. He had only thought about gouging out the man’s eyes; he hadn’t actually done it.

Perhaps because he hadn’t turned around, Shen Zhifan’s face flushed crimson on the other side, showing a look of frustration. Was it really not going to work? He had seen others strike up conversations this way.

If Lu Qingyun ignored him and left, should he send his younger brother to talk to him…

Shen Zhifan was struggling with this when he looked up and saw Lu Qingyun staring at him with a smile.

Shen Zhifan’s body stiffened, and his face couldn’t help but turn red again.

Lu Qingyun raised what he considered a friendly smile toward him and said, “Sure, I’ll add you.”

    _

Because he was lying on his back, the sun was getting increasingly harsh, pulling Lu Qingyun’s thoughts back to the present.

Shen Zhifan had just carried him out of the school gate. The academy didn’t strictly control student entry and exit; cars frequently came and went at the entrance, with young masters often driving out to play, so their exit was easy.

Shen Zhifan focused only on the road. Sweat beaded on his face from running, and his brows remained tightly furrowed. His grip around Lu Qingyun tightened.

The temperature was already high in the middle of the day. Being held so closely generated heat, and any more hugging would become uncomfortable. Lu Qingyun shifted slightly.

Shen Zhifan quickly lowered his head to check on him. Facing Lu Qingyun’s face, which appeared even paler and colder in the sun, he couldn’t help but purse his lips. He adjusted the person higher, trying to make him lie more comfortably.

He was accustomed to taking care of his younger brother since childhood, and coupled with the heavy labor he did, his arms were quite strong. He could easily carry Lu Qingyun and find several comfortable positions for him to lie in.

But it seemed Lu Qingyun was still not satisfied.

The Omega lightly touched his arm and buried his head in his chest, looking like he was preparing to get down.

Shen Zhifan didn’t let go. He looked down, and the fair, slender neck came into view. He quickly averted his gaze, cleared his throat, and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Lu Qingyun’s voice was soft, as if it could be scattered by the wind in the next second.

“Brother Shen, please put me down first.” Lu Qingyun looked up at the young man holding him, his eyes flickering as he showed a slightly guilty expression. “I suddenly remembered I have medicine in my pocket.”

Shen Zhifan was relieved to hear about the medicine. He put the person down, one hand still lightly supporting his arm in case he fell. With the other hand, he quickly patted both of Lu Qingyun’s pockets and indeed felt a medicine bottle. He didn’t look at it, opened it, and handed it to Lu Qingyun.

He knew Lu Qingyun was frail. There had been an incident before where he suddenly fainted, which scared Shen Zhifan badly. However, when he asked Lu Qingyun about it afterward, the boy changed the subject. Since then, Shen Zhifan hadn’t asked again, only turning up the notification volume on his phone.

Lu Qingyun took a pill and put it in his mouth. Seeing that Shen Zhifan didn’t look closely, but simply helped him close the bottle and carefully put it back in his pocket, Lu Qingyun reached up and tugged at the necklace around his neck, lightly twisting it. Observing the person beside him from the corner of his eye, a faint smile played on his lips.

Shen Zhifan truly was… a great person.

Lu Qingyun felt Shen Zhifan’s worried gaze, pursed his lips, and lowered his eyes. “I’m sorry for the trouble today. I forgot I had medicine on me.”

He stared at his toes, waiting for Shen Zhifan’s response.

Shen Zhifan’s eyes dimmed slightly, and the corners of his mouth drooped. He didn’t know why, but hearing the person in front of him say that made him unhappy. His voice became anxious.

“Don’t be so polite with me. Aren’t we good friends…”

(Beep! Triggered keyword “Good Friends.” Rewarding 3000 points. Host should know that 3000 points equals 3000 RMB, which converts to 300 yuan in the real world.)

The system briefly came online for one second, like a triggered NPC program, and immediately went offline after speaking.

Lu Qingyun’s eyes lit up. Three hundred yuan for one phrase of “good friends”—that was too profitable. He looked at Shen Zhifan, his voice becoming cheerful, “Yes, we are good friends.”

Shen Zhifan unconsciously froze. The boy opposite him had bright eyes, glistening like water, making it impossible to look away. Shen Zhifan’s lips also curved into a smile.

He rarely saw Lu Qingyun like this. The boy’s eyes were usually somewhat dim, as if hiding some worry. Even when his words were cheerful sometimes, Shen Zhifan knew the boy wasn’t truly happy. He didn’t know why, nor did he have the right to ask. He felt helpless.

Lu Qingyun lightly patted his shoulder, acting like they were close buddies, but his words carried the implication of discarding someone after use.

“Well, good friend, you should hurry back. I’m returning to school.” He finished speaking and walked away without waiting for a reply.

Shen Zhifan stood stunned, left alone where he was. After a moment, he reached out and patted his own shoulder, mimicking Lu Qingyun, and quietly repeated, “Good friend…”

    _

The two hadn’t gone far from the school gate earlier. Lu Qingyun walked back in a few steps. Just as he was about to step through the school entrance, the noise around him suddenly intensified. Many people were shouting.

The clamor caused his brain to stall. His mind couldn’t quickly process the information at that moment, only hearing many people talking. Only by listening carefully could he discern what they were shouting.

    “Get out of the way!”

Lu Qingyun reacted, and when he turned his head, his pupils contracted. A car was speeding straight toward him.
