    Chapter Index

His tears flowed even harder, his voice sounding pleading: “Don’t hate me.”

Perhaps seeing Lu Qingyun’s still indifferent face, he reached out, pulled the person into his embrace, and held him tightly, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.

He rested his head on Lu Qingyun’s shoulder, closed his eyes briefly, and when he opened them again, his eyes were still tinged with red.

“You were the one who lied to me first. I just… just wanted to be by your side.”

As he spoke, his eyes grew resolute. The person held in his arms was real. He tightened his grip for a moment, his face gradually darkening.

Shen Zhifan suddenly curled his lips, the bloodshot veins in his eyes strikingly obvious. He buried his head lightly in Lu Qingyun’s neck, took a deep breath, and said faintly, “In short, you can’t leave.”

    And I can’t leave you.

    “Woof woof.”

A dog bark came from the door. Lu Qingyun looked over to see the door pushed open a small crack, the security chain preventing it from opening wider, leaving a space too small for a person to pass through.

The small white dog outside immediately ran in. Lu Qingyun was puzzled for a moment, then stood up and walked over.

The small white dog followed, rubbing against his feet. Lu Qingyun crouched down and stroked the little dog’s head.

“Little Brother Lu!” Shen Zhinian’s head peeked through the gap in the door. He tried to squeeze inside while calling out.

Lu Qingyun walked toward the door, the dog chasing him to the doorway.

Lu Qingyun crouched down and looked at Shen Zhinian, reminding him, “Don’t squeeze, you’ll hit your head.”

Shen Zhinian was obedient and immediately pulled back. He smiled and said, “Little Brother Lu, isn’t this dog cute?”

Lu Qingyun nodded. He glanced outside through the door crack but didn’t see Shen Zhifan. So he asked, “Zhinian, do you know where this is?”

Shen Zhinian shook his head and made a gesture of covering his mouth.

“Brother won’t let me say. He said it’s dangerous outside and he needs to protect Little Brother Lu well.”

Lu Qingyun choked, momentarily speechless, but he didn’t intend to trouble a child. He reached out and stroked the dog’s head.

Seeing this, Shen Zhinian smiled. He also crouched down and reached inside to stroke the dog’s head.

“My brother adopted this dog today. He said he was afraid you’d be bored, so he asked me to bring it over. I’m glad you like it, Little Brother Lu.”

Shen Zhinian chattered on for a long time. Children are playful, and soon he was distracted by something else. Only one person and one dog remained in the room.

The little dog followed Lu Qingyun wherever he went. He found some amusement in playing with a fellow creature. Lu Qingyun’s gaze fell on the bedside table.

On the bedside table was a long box, the same one Shen Zhifan had brought yesterday. Inside was the necklace Shen Zhifan had given him, which Shen Zhifan claimed he bought casually the day they bought clothes.

Lu Qingyun opened the box and took out the necklace. The little dog rubbed against his foot again from under the bed.

Lu Qingyun put the necklace down, picked up the dog, and held the dog with one hand while holding the necklace with the other, dangling it in front of the dog’s face.

“You like it?” Seeing the dog’s head follow the necklace, Lu Qingyun smiled, reached out, and poked the dog’s head. “Then it’s yours, Little Shen.”

Lu Qingyun held the dog in his arms, wrapped the necklace twice around the little dog’s neck, and gave the dog a name. Only after naming him did he remember to ask for the dog’s opinion.

“How about calling you Little Shen from now on?” Seeing the dog had no reaction, Lu Qingyun rubbed the dog’s ears. “Did you hear me? You’re Little Shen now.”

In the evening, Lu Qingyun was teasing the dog when he heard footsteps outside. He quickly put the dog on the floor, covered himself with the blanket, and lay on the bed, sighing twice.

Shen Zhifan opened the door and walked in. Seeing the dog wandering on the floor, a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes. He closed the door, placed the food he brought on the table, and turned to look at Lu Qingyun.

Lu Qingyun was lying casually on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Shen Zhifan clenched his hand, suddenly feeling a surge of panic.

He deliberately made some noise, arranging all the food on the table, then cleared his throat. Seeing that Lu Qingyun still hadn’t moved, he walked over, feeling a bit frustrated.

    “Time to eat.”

Lu Qingyun shifted his gaze, turning his back to him.

Shen Zhifan sighed softly, pulled his phone out of his pocket. He walked around to face Lu Qingyun, held out the phone, and coaxed, “I’ve downloaded everything. You can watch after you eat.”

Lu Qingyun took the phone, smiled inwardly, and then got up to eat.

He sat at the table with his back to the bed. Shen Zhifan watched him for a while, then his gaze fell on the small white dog. His eyes widened instantly. Shen Zhifan leaned closer.

He hadn’t seen the necklace on the dog’s neck clearly when he first entered because he was far away. Now that he saw it, a wave of grievance welled up in Shen Zhifan’s heart.

The necklace he had saved money for a long time to buy was casually given to a dog by Lu Qingyun.

Shen Zhifan sighed in dissatisfaction and started pacing back and forth. While Lu Qingyun ate, he circled the person, acting more like a puppy than the actual dog.

Lu Qingyun felt a little dizzy from his pacing. He slammed his chopsticks onto the bowl, turned his head, and looked at him. “What are you doing now?”

Shen Zhifan pointed a finger at the dog. The small white dog seemed aware, propping up its legs and looking over. Shen Zhifan immediately accused, “The necklace I gave you, you gave it to the dog?”

Lu Qingyun took a tissue from the side, slowly wiped his mouth, then took another one to clean his hands, and simply responded with a faint “Mhm.”

“Mhm? How could you…” Shen Zhifan stopped mid-question, knowing he wouldn’t get an answer. He paused, seemingly suppressing something, then quickly walked out, slamming the door shut forcefully.

Lu Qingyun lay on the bed, his legs kicked up behind him. He tentatively sent a message.

Sure enough, it wouldn’t send. He guessed that Shen Zhifan must have placed a signal jammer or something similar nearby.

Lu Qingyun put the phone aside and crawled to the edge of the bed to pet the dog. After playing with the dog for a while, he felt sleepy. Lu Qingyun picked up the clothes nearby and walked toward the bathroom.

At night, Lu Qingyun was sleeping soundly, half-hugging his legs and kicking the blanket aside.

The door was gently pushed open. Shen Zhifan tiptoed in. He gathered the bowls and chopsticks on the table, preparing to take them out, but his gaze drifted to Lu Qingyun. He stopped, placing the dishes back on the table.

Shen Zhifan walked softly to the bedside, picked up the blanket, and leaned down to cover Lu Qingyun. His eyes held a fragmented tenderness, and his heart was filled with satisfaction.

If Lu Qingyun could stay by his side quietly like this forever, it would be wonderful.

Shen Zhifan carefully climbed onto the bed and held Lu Qingyun in his arms through the blanket. He instinctively leaned his head to rub against Lu Qingyun’s neck, as if seeking warmth.

Lu Qingyun suddenly turned over. Shen Zhifan was startled, thinking he had woken up, and quickly let go. But after waiting a few seconds, he heard no more movement.

Lu Qingyun was still asleep. He turned over and mumbled, “Little Shen.”

Shen Zhifan’s eyes lit up. He leaned closer, a flicker of hope rising in his heart.

“What did you call? Say it again.”

The person in his sleep naturally didn’t respond again. Instead, the small white dog barked. Shen Zhifan reached out and half-covered Lu Qingyun’s ear, smiling contentedly.

He leaned close to Lu Qingyun and replied, “I’m here.”

Afraid of waking him, Shen Zhifan only loosely held Lu Qingyun in his arms, his arm seemingly exerting force but not actually touching Lu Qingyun. He leaned down, his lips brushing lightly against Lu Qingyun’s lips, instantly hearing his own heart pounding like thunder.

Lu Qingyun slept all night, feeling groggy and constantly sensing something pressing down on him. He vaguely opened his eyes, only feeling a burning pain in his mouth. Lu Qingyun sat up and touched his mouth.

The small white dog was playing by itself on the floor, chasing its own tail. Lu Qingyun watched for a moment, then got up to wash.

When he finished washing and walked out, the small white dog came over. Lu Qingyun reached out and stroked its fluffy head, then suddenly whispered, “I have to say goodbye to you.”

Lu Qingyun played with the dog for a while, then stood up, changed into his original clothes, and carefully tucked his phone into his pocket.

It wasn’t long before Shen Zhifan walked in carrying a food container. As usual, he systematically laid out the food. Lu Qingyun didn’t say much and went over to eat.

After eating for a while, his brow suddenly furrowed slightly. Lu Qingyun’s hand loosened, and his chopsticks clattered onto the table.

Lu Qingyun covered his stomach with one hand, his face pale, and cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

Shen Zhifan clenched his hand. He closed his eyes in frustration, yet still felt uneasy. He forcefully suppressed his feelings and spoke with forced coldness, “Stop acting. I know you want to escape.”

After all, Lu Qingyun’s medicine bottle had always contained candy. He wasn’t sick at all; every time he fainted was a deception from beginning to end.

Shen Zhifan pinched his own hand, struggling internally before taking a step forward. He was warning himself not to fall for Lu Qingyun’s trick. At this critical juncture, Lu Qingyun was simply trying to make him anxious so he would take him outside.

Before he could react further, Lu Qingyun suddenly fell straight backward.

    “!”

Shen Zhifan panicked, but his actions were swift. He quickly stepped forward and caught Lu Qingyun steadily in his arms.

“Lu Qingyun.” He shook the boy in his arms with trembling hands, the anxiety in his heart spreading completely.

Lu Qingyun’s face was very pale. Held in his arms, he felt so light as if he might disappear immediately. Seeing his breathing become shallow, Shen Zhifan’s breath hitched. He couldn’t care about anything else and rushed out, holding the person.

As he ran, he lifted Lu Qingyun slightly, turning his body so the boy was half-slumped over his shoulder. Shen Zhifan’s breathing grew heavy. He freed one hand and frantically dialed a number.

Shen Zhifan’s face gradually darkened. Aside from mechanically performing actions, his mind was completely blank. The lifeless Lu Qingyun in his arms made him feel uneasy and terrified.

Shen Zhifan’s tense emotions only slightly eased when they reached the hospital. His brain only began to function normally again after hearing the doctor say that Lu Qingyun was fine.

On the hospital bed, Lu Qingyun lay quietly, the color returning to his face. A needle was connected to his pale arm.

The boy was receiving an IV drip. Shen Zhifan clasped his hands in front of him, his gaze firmly locked on Lu Qingyun, not moving an inch. He stared until his eyes were slightly red, unwilling to look away for a moment.

If he could, he wanted to watch Lu Qingyun like this forever, keeping him within his line of sight; only then would he feel secure.

Even though he found this thought crazy, he truly had never felt he was insane throughout his life. But the things he was doing now constantly reminded him of it.

“You still haven’t found Lu Qingyun?”

“A bunch of useless trash.” Xie Jin moved his gaze from his phone, looking up to scrutinize the subordinates in front of him. His eyes deepened. After staring for a moment, he leaned back casually on the sofa. “Still can’t trace the location?”

“…Yes.” The subordinate in front of him trembled slightly and lowered his head.

Xie Jin lightly tapped his fingers on his thigh, remaining silent for a moment. The few subordinates in front of him didn’t even dare to breathe heavily. The atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing point; the air in the room seemed to solidify.

Xie Jin withdrew his hand, looked up, and instructed, “Send people to watch Lu Chi and Gu Hanshi, and that Ji Chengyu.”

“Yes.” The subordinates finally received their orders, stood up, and quickly walked out as if relieved.

As the men hurried to the door, Xie Jin suddenly spoke, “Wait.”

The subordinates immediately stopped, turning their heads back. Xie Jin added irritably, “Also, his roommates. Send people to watch them too. Report any movement immediately.”

As Xie Jin spoke, the dark lines on his face deepened, giving rise to resentment. He cursed inwardly and frowned.

Such a magnet for trouble, attracting so many wild men.

Now that the person was gone, he didn’t even know who had hidden him away.

However, Xie Jin firmly believed one thing: Lu Qingyun absolutely could not have run away by himself. If he had run away alone, the information revealed would be too much; checking his phone or itinerary would quickly locate him. Therefore, there was only one possibility: he was hidden by someone.

Xie Jin clenched his hand, suppressing the unease in his heart. After sending everyone out, he didn’t stay idle either. He grabbed his motorcycle keys and left.

    Inside the Lu family villa.

“Ah, ah, stop hitting me, Dad.” Lu Chi knelt on the floor, a middle-aged man behind him beating him with a stick.

“Stop hitting you? Look at the things you’ve done. I’ll beat you to death, you unfilial son.”

Lu Chi hissed a few times but didn’t dare to dodge. He stiffened his neck, refusing to yield. “Even if you beat me to death, I must find him. You should be helping your son… Ah.”

“Help you? You prodigal son!” Lu Yanming’s face was red with anger. He swung his arm and struck hard.

These past few days, Lu Chi had been acting like a madman, not coming home, running to various places, and even using Lu Yanming’s influence to search for the person.

Now, it was rumored all over A City that the Lu family’s son was going crazy over a poor student.

Lu Yanming staggered two steps in anger. Lu Chi quickly stood up and supported him. He led him to the sofa before tentatively speaking again, “Why are you getting so angry?”

Lu Yanming tossed the stick aside and sighed helplessly. “You unfilial son, tell me what he can bring you?”

Lu Chi moved back slightly and retorted righteously, “Happiness. He can bring me happiness.”

“What good is happiness… cough, cough.” Lu Yanming started coughing again. Lu Chi quickly handed him a glass of water.

The two were at a stalemate for a moment. Lu Yanming sighed. “Are you really set on him?”

Lu Chi’s heart leaped with joy, knowing there was a turning point. He nodded quickly.

Seeing his reaction, Lu Yanming sighed, remaining silent for a long time. In the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything more. He reluctantly said, “Go.”

Lu Chi’s eyes brightened. He tentatively asked again, “What about the search?”

    “You can use my people.”

“Great.” Lu Chi turned and walked out. As he walked, he pulled out his phone and immediately started giving orders over the phone.

Before he could exert more effort in the search, he suddenly received a message from his subordinate.

“Boss, one of the two phones you asked us to locate suddenly showed up.”

    “Where?”

    “Central Hospital.”

Inside Central Hospital, Shen Zhifan was called to pay the hospitalization fee. He had to leave Lu Qingyun, go to the front desk to pay the fees, and then follow the nurse to get the relevant medicine.

As he walked back with the medicine, he felt that the hospital seemed unusually crowded. Some people were wearing hats and quickly moving through the corridors. Shen Zhifan’s heart inexplicably fluttered.

He hurried toward the ward, slightly relieved when he reached the door.

Shen Zhifan pushed the door open. A gust of wind blew in from the window. Shen Zhifan felt the wind and frowned tightly.

    He hadn’t opened the window.

Shen Zhifan glanced at the bed. The clean white bed was empty, leaving only the wrinkled sheets. Shen Zhifan’s face darkened. He quickly entered the room and rushed toward the bathroom.

He rushed in, but it was empty, still no one inside. Shen Zhifan clenched his hands and walked out.

The wide-open window let in the wind, seemingly mocking him. Shen Zhifan’s face paled for a moment, then a ferocious expression appeared on his face.

    “Bang.”

He violently threw the medicine onto the floor. The medicine bottle fell, bounced, and rolled to the side. Shen Zhifan clenched his fists tightly, the expression on his face completely uncontrollable, gradually twisting.

Lu Qingyun had tricked him again.

Shen Zhifan stared at the window for a moment, then suddenly laughed. He looked at the window, speaking slowly as if possessed, “You can’t escape.”

Shen Zhifan clenched his hand and took out his phone from his pocket. The phone screen looked like a large map, with a small red dot slowly moving on it.

[Villain Points +5. Dormitory Notice: Villain Points need to accumulate 100 for the second mission to be considered successful. Current progress is 92/100.]

Lu Qingyun had escaped. He darted out through a small path in the hospital, occasionally turning his head to check behind him. Seeing no sign of Shen Zhifan, he slightly relaxed.

Lu Qingyun took out his phone from his pocket. This phone was now usable. Lu Qingyun walked forward, typing with his head down.

He was so focused on typing that he didn’t notice what was in front of him and unexpectedly bumped into something hard. Lu Qingyun held his forehead with one hand, frowned, and looked up.

The first thing he saw was a black leather jacket. It turned out he had bumped into a person. Lu Qingyun wondered why someone’s chest would be so hard. He looked up, ready to scold.

But his eyes met a familiar yet somewhat unfamiliar face. The man was frowning, looking down at him, his gaze as if he wanted to devour Lu Qingyun.

Lu Qingyun subconsciously took a step back. Realizing what was happening, he turned and ran. The boy was too agile, disappearing instantly like a fox. The speed made Xie Jin momentarily stunned.

At the end of the small path, connected to the main road, a car suddenly screeched to a halt. Noise instantly spread as several black cars forced their way to a stop.

Lu Qingyun was forced to stop. When he turned to look back at the path, he saw Xie Jin half-leaning on his motorcycle, his eyes fixed on him, as if saying, “You can’t run away.”

The main road instantly became congested, with horns blaring intermittently. Several cars surrounded the area. The car doors opened, and several people stepped out.

Lu Qingyun felt despair, deeply sensing that he was finished, especially when he saw that everyone who stepped out of the cars were familiar faces. His heart chilled even further. He felt the wind on the road had grown colder.

Lu Qingyun sighed, quickly typed a string of characters on his phone, and then took a few steps back.

His expression didn’t change much, so to others, he still appeared calm. In reality, Lu Qingyun was cursing the incompetent system in his heart and complaining.

What kind of hatred or grievance was this? He only tricked them a little once, right? Was it necessary for everyone to relentlessly chase after him and cause trouble?

He had considered bad scenarios, but he had only anticipated one. If it was just one, he could barely handle it, but four was a bit too much.

The three people in front were closing in on him. Gu Hanshi was facing Lu Qingyun, so Lu Qingyun naturally noticed Gu Hanshi’s expression.

Gu Hanshi’s face showed no anger, only a hint of confusion and a degree of scrutiny, as if he had discovered something but found it extremely absurd.

Lu Qingyun was confused for a moment, remembering that he had exposed his tail and ears at Gu Hanshi’s house. He was suddenly uncertain.

Did Gu Hanshi know? Would he tell the others? Or had he already told them?

Lu Qingyun’s thoughts were momentarily chaotic. He hadn’t expected Gu Hanshi to come and capture him. The only possibility was that Gu Hanshi had discovered he was a fox and was planning to sell him.

Lu Qingyun became more certain of his guess and took a few more steps back. Suddenly, an arm wrapped around his waist. Lu Qingyun turned his head to look.

Xie Jin had him encircled in his arms, his other hand firmly gripping his arm.

Lu Qingyun struggled slightly, but his movements were completely suppressed.

Lu Chi, who was walking toward them, showed the most obvious change in expression. His face instantly stiffened, and he sped up, rushing over.

Xie Jin rubbed Lu Qingyun’s waist, successfully feeling Lu Qingyun’s slight tremor. He chuckled softly and leaned close to Lu Qingyun’s ear.

“You have to choose one, right? Come with me, how about it?”
