Chapter 14 This Person, Where Did They Pop Up From…

Unable to find Director Huang, Tao Qingguan turned his attention to Little White in the fish tank. These past few days he had been busy being close with Director Huang, neglecting Little White.

The grass is always greener on the other side; men, sigh~

“Bai ah,” Tao Qingguan leaned close to the fish tank, feeling guilty and wanting to compensate Little White, “How’s the water temperature, comfortable?”

Yan Jiu glanced up at the solicitous Tao Qingguan, a hint of confusion in his eyes.

Huh? Does he want to steal the fish tank from me again?

It’s not that hot indoors today.

Tao Qingguan lifted the lid and reached in to touch Yan Jiu, “Little White, when will you grow legs so you can come out and play?”

    Yan Jiu: “…”

    Great, he’s having another episode.

Tao Qingguan rested his chin in his hand, speaking righteously, “Grow legs, and you’ll be a mermaid. Fish upper body, human lower body, how is that not a human-fish?”

Yan Jiu looked at Tao Qingguan with an expression that defied description; this taste was a bit strong.

The temperature of fingertips brushing against his back brought a slight itch, and Yan Jiu narrowed his eyes slightly.

He knew something felt off these past two days. It turned out the kid hadn’t been bothering him recently, and the sudden quiet was actually making him feel unaccustomed.

Just then, Yan Jiu heard Tao Qingguan muttering again.

“Why hasn’t Big Kitty come yet? He’s over an hour late. Did he find another dog to keep outside?” Tao Qingguan frowned deeply, as if facing a problem of the century.

    “Ouch.”

His finger was lightly flicked, not too hard. Tao Qingguan looked over and saw Little White swimming away. He suddenly felt like he’d been caught cheating.

Knowing he was in the wrong, he smiled ingratiatingly at Little White, “Don’t worry, Daddy still cares about you. Want some grapes?”

Even if he couldn’t sell them right now, Little White was worth hundreds of millions, and he wouldn’t forget his roots as a person.

Tao Qingguan took a bunch of grapes from the refrigerator, plucked one off, peeled it, removed the seeds, and took a large bite. He smacked his lips.

    Sweet, delicious.

He returned to the fish tank and offered the remaining bit of grape to Little White’s mouth, saying, “Eat more, don’t be shy.”

Yan Jiu looked at the half-eaten grape and wasn’t very eager to eat it.

It had been half a month; he finally remembered that some of the things delivered were meant for him too. Not easy.

Yan Jiu looked at Tao Qingguan. The kid’s eyes were bright and full of expectation. He hesitated for a moment, then still swam forward and took a bite.

Oh well, getting something to eat from the kid’s mouth was a rare treat.

Seeing Little White eat, Tao Qingguan let out a sound of surprise, “So fish really do eat grapes. Little Sweet Potato didn’t lie to me.”

The next second, it happened again.

    “Ouch.”

Tao Qingguan glared at Little White, accusingly, “You flicked me again!”

    Yan Jiu remained unmoved.

One flick felt too little; someone like Tao Qingguan deserved to be hung up and spanked.

    That fickle, ungrateful brat.

    “I’m not feeding you anymore.”

Tao Qingguan snorted coldly, pulled his hand back, shook the water off, and glanced at the wall clock. Worry crossed his face again as he murmured, “Still not here…”

For someone Director Huang’s size, forgetting anything was possible, but forgetting to eat was not. Could he have run into some accident?

Like getting stuck while trying to squeeze through the courtyard wall.

The Ancestral Home’s courtyard wall was quite high, smooth on the outside, with no footholds, and no trees nearby to use for leverage. Most people couldn’t climb it. However, due to its age, there was a hole in one corner of the wall, which Director Huang had been using to come and go these past few days.

Tao Qingguan pursed his lips and decided to check. He changed his shoes and stepped out the main door for the first time in a while.

He headed straight for the dog hole, but unfortunately, it was empty inside, not even a cat hair to be found. Tao Qingguan, failing to pick up a cat, showed a disappointed expression.

Suddenly, he heard voices outside the yard. Tao Qingguan turned his head and peeked out the iron gate, spotting two familiar figures.

In this village, there weren’t many people he didn’t recognize; they were all people who had delivered vegetables.

The people outside also noticed Tao Qingguan. They exchanged glances and simultaneously offered him a friendly smile.

The taller middle-aged man spoke first, “Little Guan, out for a stroll?”

Tao Qingguan replied, “No, I’m looking for Director Huang. That chubby orange cat, have you seen him?”

Director Huang spent all day scamming for food in the village. Even someone new like him had been taken advantage of, so others must have seen Director Huang.

The shorter middle-aged man answered, “Saw him this morning while jogging. He’s wild; you can never find him.”

Tao Qingguan hadn’t expected the person in front of him to be one of the daily joggers. He looked respectful and said, “Okay, thank you.”

He turned to leave, taking one step, when the men behind him called out.

“Wait.” The shorter middle-aged man couldn’t suppress his curiosity and found an excuse to ask, “Did anyone come here three days ago? I lost something nearby and still haven’t found it.”

Everyone in the village had sensed the fluctuation of Spiritual Energy that day, but they could only pinpoint the general area, not definitively know who made the move.

The residents living closest to Tao Qingguan remained silent. They couldn’t get useful information, but that was normal; after all, they were in a competition now, and no one wanted to share what they knew.

Tao Qingguan thought for a moment upon hearing the question.

No one had come to deliver vegetables these past few days. The last person to visit was Chen Fengming, and he seemed to have been here exactly three days ago.

“Chen Fengming, Uncle Chen came by that day.”

    “Him?”

The shorter middle-aged man frowned, looking at the taller one. They both saw disbelief in each other’s eyes.

Impossible. They all knew Chen Fengming’s level. The one who stopped the rain must still be one of the residents who lived near Tao Qingguan.

The shorter middle-aged man smiled and said, “Thank you. Next time, Uncle will bring you roast chicken.”

Tao Qingguan initially wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but upon hearing roast chicken, he swallowed his words. It had been a long time since he ate food infused with technology and strong flavors; he missed it a little.

He replied obediently, “Thank you, Uncle. Is it something important? Should I help you look?”

“No need, it’s not too important,” the shorter middle-aged man said vaguely, gesturing for the taller one to leave. “We’ll go now. Don’t worry too much; maybe Director Huang will show up soon.”

    Tao Qingguan said, “Mm, bye-bye.”

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a clatter behind him, followed by an angry cat’s yowl. Tao Qingguan turned around to see Director Huang sprinting away.

Director Huang was baring its teeth and hissing. It was already round, but now it had puffed up into a giant dandelion. It stared fixedly at the monkey in front of it, its gaze conveying an intense feeling of having its mate stolen.

    There really is a monkey!?

Tao Qingguan was stunned, then noticed the monkey holding the cat food he had made for Director Huang. No wonder Director Huang was so furious.

Seeing Director Huang about to charge into a life-or-death battle with the monkey, Tao Qingguan rushed to stop the cat.

That monkey was about one and a half times the size of Director Huang, looked fierce, bared its teeth high, and had long claws. If Director Huang charged recklessly, he’d be batted around like a ball.

But Tao Qingguan clearly underestimated Director Huang’s fighting power. The nearly twenty-pound meatball slammed into his lower abdomen with a thud. His left foot hadn’t fully healed, causing him to stumble backward several steps. He scrambled to catch Director Huang.

Director Huang was startled by Tao Qingguan’s movement, waving its claws and screeching.

Tao Qingguan finally managed to catch the cat, receiving several bloody scratches on his arm. He hissed a few times and soothed, “Calm down, it’s not worth it. It’s just a bowl of food; I can make you more.”

Director Huang panted, its pupils wide open, clearly unconvinced.

The monkey nearby taunted provocatively, grabbed the food from the bowl, and threw it.

With its pride wounded, Director Huang couldn’t tolerate it any longer and was about to charge again. Seeing this, the monkey jumped away first, scrambling up and disappearing behind the corner in two quick movements.

Tao Qingguan couldn’t stop Director Huang and had to follow. He chased around the corner and shouted, “Impulse is the devil! Wait…”

The rest of the sentence caught in his throat. He unconsciously stopped walking, staring blankly at the long-haired man before him. The man was dressed in a green robe, stood tall and straight, his dark hair like a painting, looking as if he belonged to a different dimension than them.

This… this, where did this person pop up from?

Yan Jiu, holding the monkey in his hand, felt a jolt in his heart upon seeing Tao Qingguan.

He had just witnessed the monkey stealing the food and heard the commotion outside. After smelling the scent of blood, he came out in human form because he was worried.

Who knew that as soon as he flipped over the window, this impudent monkey would run right into him, coincidentally leading Tao Qingguan over.

Yan Jiu lowered his gaze to the monkey in his hand, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes.

    Since that was the case…

He curved his lips, brought the monkey in front of Tao Qingguan, and said naturally, “I saw it stealing things several times. When I caught it this time, I chased it along the way.”

    Monkey: “?”
