Chapter 23 Part 2
by BLReadsLee Jun lay half-down towards the chair, holding Hae Sol, whose body smelled strongly of baby, so that Hae Sol wouldn’t feel confined. In that position, he placed one hand on Hae Sol’s back to prevent him from falling backward and held the mouse with his other hand.
“I’ll hold Hae Sol and work, so just stand by.”
“Seriously. I’m not some maid, to wait for instructions I don’t know when will come…”
“Then do you want to watch Hae Sol?”
“No! Call me anytime, I’ll be there in a second!”
At Lee Jun’s threat, made without even looking at her, Haein immediately backed down and pleaded. There was no need to be jealous that Hae Sol liked Lee Jun more than his mom.
“What can I do? Hae Sol has discerning eyes and prefers his handsome uncle over his mom. I guess I have to concede.”
“Nonsense.”
“Well, it is true you’re prettier, I guess.”
Haein grumbled, as if it wasn’t an entirely incorrect statement.
“But…”
Seeing Haein hesitating and not leaving, Lee Jun pressed the save button. It seemed she wouldn’t be leaving right away.
“Were you with Chaeheon yesterday, that’s why you didn’t come home?”
Haein’s voice was so solemn that Lee Jun wondered if she was the same person who had been bustling around with Hae Sol just moments before. As she said, he had indeed been with Chaeheon.
While Lee Jun remained silent, Haein carefully asked,
“Are you perhaps seeing each other again?”
“No, it’s not that. I just got drunk and couldn’t come home.”
Lee Jun was about to wave his hand, intending to say no, but instead re-adjusted Hae Sol’s body in his arms. Seeing Hae Sol stretch out both hands, trying to grasp something, Lee Jun knew he wanted the mouse and handed it to him. As expected, Hae Sol smiled and played with the mouse, as if that was exactly what he had wanted.
Seeing that innocent sight, Lee Jun let out a heavy sigh. He should have just said Chaeheon went to study abroad. If he had, Haein wouldn’t be so worried… That day, when Haein said she had an appointment and he offered to watch Hae Sol, he ended up coming home late because he fell asleep in Chaeheon’s car. If only he had made a different excuse to Haein, who couldn’t go to her appointment that day, when she asked why he was so late, instead of mentioning Chaeheon. If only he hadn’t fallen asleep in that car in the first place, regret swelled up to his throat.
Perhaps because of that, feeling choked up, Lee Jun only opened his mouth after swallowing several times.
“I couldn’t ask anything. And I won’t ask. I think it’s better to find out separately.”
He no longer wanted to involve Chaeheon. Until now, he had thought it was okay that they broke up since he believed Chaeheon had gone to study abroad, but perhaps because they were attending school together and he had heard how Chaeheon felt all this time, he was reluctant.
However, Haein didn’t share his feelings.
“How else can we find out? We’ll definitely get caught then. They’ll surely suspect us. So, we have to use him. Honestly, if he had gone to study abroad, it would be different, but he didn’t.”
At Haein’s insistence on using Chaeheon, Lee Jun sighed.
“Then what if Chaeheon finds out too? What am I supposed to say? Should I tell him who my nephew’s father is?”
“I’m not saying you have to do that.”
“Even if Chaeheon… was my lover, he’s still strictly a stranger. Just because he knows, he has no obligation to help us. He might even tell that bastard. So, Chaeheon is not an option.”
