    Chapter Index

To the question of why he suddenly appeared and caught him, Chaeheon pondered for a moment. It was as if he was thinking about how to answer so Jang Hyeon-seong would understand well. However, that was merely a way to buy time. Chaeheon subtly went and squatted in front of Jang Hyeon-seong.

“First, I thought you’d appear here eventually, so I had people stationed in advance. I entrusted it to my sister, and I was debating whether to pull them back, but while I was thinking, Uncle was caught.”

He looked around the old office. An old office in an old building. It was a place unfitting for Jang Hyeon-seong, who owned high-rise buildings, but because it was a significant place to him, Chaeheon knew he would come someday.

“How did you know about this place?”

“What is there to figure out? Uncle, you brought me here before.”

At Chaeheon’s calm reply, Jang Hyeon-seong’s eyes narrowed.

“At that time, your age was…”

    “I was eight years old.”

That meant an eight-year-old child remembered a place he had only visited once. Was that even possible?

“My sister came along that time too, but why couldn’t she remember…”

Instead, Chaeheon felt pitiful that Jang Chae-hui couldn’t remember. At his nonchalant mumble, Jang Hyeon-seong looked at him with an incredulous expression, then burst into laughter.

“Right. I had forgotten what kind of child you were.”

As his laughter echoed cheerfully in the old office, Chaeheon, who couldn’t stand it, asked.

“What kind of child was I?”

“A very smart child. Smart enough to nonchalantly hide your true self…”

At Jang Hyeon-seong’s words, Chaeheon tilted his head, wondering, “Was I?”

“You were feeling pheromones even before your manifestation, but you never said anything.”

“I just wasn’t interested in the scents coming from others.”

That was a fact known not only by Chaeheon but by everyone. He was particularly bothered by people paying attention to him.

Pheromones were one of them. He smelled them, but he didn’t mention them. That fact was revealed when Chaeheon manifested.

“It was my mistake to underestimate you, as you were a child who made deals with your father.”

Jang Hyeon-seong, who had been underestimated and caught, now had a strangely glinting look in his eyes. At an expression closer to hope than disappointment, Chaeheon frowned.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

Chaeheon sharply cut off the useless conversation that suddenly reverted to stories about his childhood. Instead, he rested his chin in his hand and met Jang Hyeon-seong’s gaze.

“Anyway, just hand over the Contract obediently.”

“If I were going to do that, I wouldn’t have taken it in the first place.”

“There’s nothing for you to gain, Uncle. If you expose that, only the current executives will get hurt.”

Chaeheon warned him not to escalate things, but Jang Hyeon-seong’s smile only deepened.

“If they take responsibility and step down, many vacancies will appear.”

    “Haa. Please…”

As Chaeheon sighed and ran a hand through his hair, Jang Hyeon-seong laughed as if amused.

“It was you I wanted from the beginning.”

Chaeheon turned his head as if his words weren’t surprising.

“Look at those who received positions simply because of their bloodline. If we don’t cut them out, there’s no future.”

“It’s already grown enough. What future are you talking about?”

Chaeheon knew it too. That there were many people holding positions beyond their actual capabilities. His own sister was like that, and so was the eldest son. But what was wrong with that? Wasn’t maintaining the status quo enough? However, Jang Hyeon-seong’s thoughts were different.

    “Is that really true?”

Jang Hyeon-seong murmured with a confident gaze, and Chaeheon’s eyes darkened upon hearing his words. Jang Hyeon-seong had somehow stopped resisting, and Chaeheon looked at him uneasily, then let out a hollow laugh.

He now realized the Contract was not in his hands.
