Chapter 14 Don’t be afraid. It’s a relationship that doesn’t need additional definition at all…

Inside the police station’s duty office, Wen Shixi sat on a square chair, looking extremely unwell.

The cut on his cheek had been disinfected and covered roughly with a gauze pad to stop the bleeding, with blood seeping from the edges.

The police officer across from him scratched his head, looking at the materials in his hand.

“But Mr. Li said that you had already agreed to let him mark you at the time. If that’s the case, you were indeed the first to injure him. According to Mr. Li and his family, the two of you are in a relationship, although you haven’t been together for long, but—”

Wen Shixi closed his sore eyes and interrupted, “We are not in a relationship. We only have a temporary marking.”

“You mean,” the officer confirmed, “you voluntarily allowed Mr. Li to mark you, but you are not in a relationship?”

    Wen Shixi: “…Yes.”

Officer: “The hospital just sent a message that Mr. Li fell down the stairs from such a high place. Although he has regained consciousness, the preliminary diagnosis is a severe concussion, along with two fractured ribs. He has already reported the case to the police, saying that you maliciously injured him. This is not a minor injury. If it’s not handled properly, it could be classified as manslaughter.”

Wen Shixi pursed his lips slightly: “I said, he had a knife in his hand at the time.”

“I know. We’ve confirmed the surveillance footage at the unit entrance, but I still have some questions.” The officer put down the file: “The other party did have a knife, but except for some special postures, we would only define the injuries on your hands or forearms as defensive wounds. But you only have one wound on your entire body, and it’s on your cheek—after Mr. Li swung the knife at you, you deliberately didn’t resist, but instead took the hit, and then pushed him down the stairs.”

Normally, wouldn’t the instinctive self-protection be different?

The officer picked up the photos of the accident scene: “The unit entrance of Jialin Jingfu, where you live, is very high, with twelve steps, almost half a floor high.”

Wen Shixi listened to the questions in the officer’s words and pursed his lips lightly.

Seeing Wen Shixi not speaking, the officer frowned slightly: “Mr. Wen, you need to know that the current situation is very unfavorable to you. The surveillance also captured you taking off the pheromone suppression sticker yourself, which can prove Mr. Li’s statement that you agreed to let him mark you at the time.”

Wen Shixi frowned slightly, remained silent for a few seconds, and then opened his mouth.

    “I am a pianist.”

The officer heard this, reacted for a moment, showed a little surprise, and looked at Wen Shixi’s hands.

    A pianist’s hands…

The officer gradually revealed an “I see” expression, and after a while, his expression relaxed, as if he had finally accepted Wen Shixi’s statement.

“But why haven’t you contacted your family?” The officer picked up his teacup, looked Wen Shixi up and down, and asked, “In a case like this, since the other party has already called the police, we must wait for the other party to actively withdraw their request before we can treat it as an ordinary dispute. You should communicate with your family as soon as possible and think of a solution together.”

Usually at times like this, only family members can share the burden together.

Wen Shixi lowered his head slightly and looked at his clasped hands.

As far as Wen Shixi was concerned, he couldn’t contact Jiang Yan or Wen Eryun because of this matter.

After the lawyer arrives, he can only go to Li Chen himself and find a way to reconcile.

But it doesn’t matter, he is no longer a child.

Just like when facing Ling Xiao, he can handle everything himself and doesn’t need anyone to protect him.

Seeing that Wen Shixi was silent again, the officer kindly rambled on, “But having said that, even if you are a pianist, this is too dangerous. If the blade had been a little more off, you would have lost your eyes.”

In the duty room late at night, it was exceptionally quiet except for the voices of the people talking.

Fatigue and the side effects of suppressing heat simultaneously occupied his body, exacerbating Wen Shixi’s already uneasy thoughts.

He was momentarily distracted, looking a little dazed, and murmured.

    “Eyes, it doesn’t matter.”

Officer: “Even if your hand is injured and you can’t play the piano, it won’t affect your life too much, but eyes are different.”

Wen Shixi heard this, lowered his eyes, and thought with his rusty brain.

Of course he knew that eyes were important.

But what would happen to him if his hand was injured at that moment?

If Wen Shixi could no longer play the piano, completely losing all value…

The fluorescent light in the duty room shone on Wen Shixi’s back, projecting a lonely figure.

A slight tremor, as fear descended into his heart, suddenly appeared at his fingertips.

The inescapable low-grade fever made Wen Shixi particularly sluggish.

The faint tinnitus repeated endlessly, and amidst the chaotic heartbeat, he did not notice the sudden opening of the door, nor did he notice the approaching footsteps.

Suddenly, he felt a warmth covering his shoulders.

Then, a hand reached into his field of vision, holding his trembling fingertips.

That hand was wide and warm, with a little moisture in the palm, gently enveloping his trembling and carefully holding it in his palm.

It also properly collected his helplessness and lingering fear, leaving only a rising body temperature.

Wen Shixi instantly turned his head and looked at the person who suddenly appeared beside him.

The man carried a whole night of darkness with him, half of his face immersed in the shadow of the backlight, his gaze swept across the gauze on Wen Shixi’s cheek, his face tightened.

Under the slightly messy hair, the expression in Jiang Quanyu’s eyes was obscure and difficult to distinguish, making it impossible to understand at all.

It seemed to contain boiling anger, cold remorse, and a hint of unreal worry.

He held Wen Shixi’s hand in one hand, and straightened the coat he had just draped over the latter’s shoulders with the other, reflecting Wen Shixi’s suddenly trembling eyes.

He didn’t blame Wen Shixi for fighting with an alpha, even to the point of ending up in the police station, but only asked in a low voice.

    “Does it still hurt?”

    Wen Shixi was slightly stunned.

Behind Jiang Quanyu, the elite lawyer who had entered the room with him pushed his glasses and walked up to the duty officer, handing out a business card: “Hello, I am Mr. Wen’s lawyer.”

The officer was a little confused, looked at the colleagues following behind the two of them, and then looked at the noble man who had walked up to Wen Shixi as soon as he entered the door: “This is?”

Jiang Quanyu took Wen Shixi’s hand, his expression indifferent, and looked at the officer.

A pair of long eyes revealed an unmasked sharpness, yet were calm, with a hint of restraint.

Jiang Quanyu stood in front of Wen Shixi, not answering the question.

The relationship between him and Wen Shixi was one that didn’t need additional definition at all.

He only turned his head again, looked at Wen Shixi’s lightly trembling eyes, raised one hand, and gently stroked the blood-stained gauze.

    “It’s okay now.”

A hoarse voice came from his thin lips, like spring water flowing through Wen Shixi’s absent-minded eyes, and also moistened Jiang Quanyu’s own throat, which had become dry from anxiety.

    “Don’t be afraid.”
