WT Chapter 16
by BLReadsChapter 16 Brother, do you know what you’re saying?
Jiang Quanyu gazed at Wen Shixi’s slightly lowered head. The little crybaby’s hair was soft and fine, and its color was lighter than ordinary black hair, like a warm brown. In the moonlight, it looked soft and felt very good to the touch.
Jiang Quanyu raised his hand, as if driven by something, and rubbed Wen Shixi’s fluffy head.
Then, Jiang Quanyu exercised his power as the next head of the family for the first time, making a promise that was very unlike his style, all for a soft, glutinous dumpling he had made cry.
“The piano, you can play it if you want, and you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Jiang Quanyu said, “No one dares to send you back to the orphanage.”
In the low hum of the engine, the dream was like a moon’s reflection in the water, gently shaken and dispersed.
The last remaining consciousness was Wen Shixi remembering that day was the first time he called Jiang Quanyu “brother.”
“Brother…”
The constantly receding streetlights streaked across the car window, the light flickering. Jiang Quanyu’s hand holding the steering wheel tightened slightly.
His thin lips were lightly pursed, leaving a soft sigh.
The coastal highway meandered along the coastline, undulating vividly.
As they approached the villa, Wen Shixi slowly opened his eyes while the car was moving. His head was dizzy and aching. It took a while for him to fully wake up.
Using the dim light, he slowly turned his head to look at the figure driving beside him.
Jiang Quanyu: “Awake?”
Wen Shixi had a sense of time and space confusion, and his mood felt very complicated.
He turned his head and looked at the sea outside the window: “…This isn’t the way to my house.”
Jiang Quanyu: “Before your heat period ends, you’ll stay temporarily in a place I arrange.”
Wen Shixi: “Why?”
Jiang Quanyu’s tone was low and full of darkness, stating bluntly: “Before I ask you what exactly your relationship is with Li Chen, don’t continue to resist me, or you’ll never be able to go home.”
Wen Shixi’s brain was still a mess. He was silent for a moment, considering the seriousness of Jiang Quanyu’s words.
After a long while, Wen Shixi: “Then does the cage you’re preparing for me have windows?”
Jiang Quanyu heard the word “cage” from Wen Shixi, and his eyebrows twitched unnaturally.
Jiang Quanyu: “That depends on whether you’ll be obedient.”
Wen Shixi: “What about servants and doctors?”
Jiang Quanyu: “Since you were little, when have you needed to worry about these things?”
Wen Shixi: “Oh.”
As Wen Shixi stopped talking, the quiet car gradually filled with the faint light of the streetlights.
He was feeling very uncomfortable and didn’t want to continue arguing with Jiang Quanyu. He also felt a little lonely and didn’t want to go back to his empty home for some reason.
So even if it was a cage, if someone was with him, it seemed okay to stay for a while.
And since it was Jiang Quanyu’s cage, Jiang Quanyu would carefully cover the cage with beautiful decorations, so it wouldn’t be too ugly.
The silent sea outside the window was pitch black, and the starlight was not clearly visible.
When passing an intersection, Wen Shixi, as if possessed, suddenly spoke.
“Jiang Quanyu, were you very scared when you heard something happened to me…?”
Wen Shixi had never seen Jiang Quanyu show that kind of expression he had at the police station.
The car turned right and drove into the villa area.
Jiang Quanyu’s hand on the steering wheel slowly turned it, and he said faintly.
“Do you know what you’re saying?”
Wen Shixi raised his hand and touched his forehead, saying ambiguously.
“Yeah, it seems like I’m delirious from the fever.”
For Jiang Quanyu, there was nothing in this world to be afraid of.
This question was extremely absurd, like the ravings of a high fever.
Soon, after driving along a long, narrow road, the car arrived in front of the independent villa at the very top.
The villa was built by the sea, and at this moment, the lights were on inside, and the bright light overflowed through the large viewing glass, like a warm lighthouse.
Jiang Quanyu drove into the courtyard, parked the car, and in the silence after the engine was turned off, said: “We’re here, get out of the car.”
Through the car window, Wen Shixi looked at the villa, then reached out and pulled the door handle.
He opened the door and stepped out of the car.
The cold sea breeze instantly swept over his face, and Wen Shixi subconsciously lowered his head and looked at himself.
He was still wearing Jiang Quanyu’s coat, and the wool coat wrapped him tightly.
The two walked into the villa together. The room, which had just been carefully cleaned up, was clean and tidy. The crystal lamp in the living room refracted a warm light, shining on the wallpaper around it.
Jiang Quanyu walked in front, heading towards the sofa, and said, “Do you want me to call the doctor over now, or wait until you wake up to call the doctor over?”
Wen Shixi looked around: “Sleep first.”
Jiang Quanyu walked to the sofa and sat down, his face facing the sea outside the window.
“You can choose any bedroom on the second floor.”
Wen Shixi’s gaze swept over the villa’s decor, and he was a little curious: “Whose house is this?”
“Chen Jiale’s,” Jiang Quanyu said.
Wen Shixi’s footsteps were slow as he walked to a spot not far from the sofa.
The soft sound of the waves drifted from afar, filled with the tranquility of the night.
Wen Shixi inhaled the residual pheromones on his body and became quiet for a moment. After thinking for a few seconds, he looked at Jiang Quanyu’s profile.
The usually strict alpha’s posture was relaxed, and his slightly bulging hand raised to unbutton his suit, revealing a rare glimpse of laziness.
Wen Shixi was still a little puzzled: “How did you go to the police station?”
“That shouldn’t be surprising,” Jiang Quanyu frowned slightly when he mentioned this matter: “But you knew I was back in the country, so why didn’t you contact me directly?”
Wen Shixi’s face tightened slightly when he heard this.
Jiang Quanyu’s words were too matter-of-fact, as if telling him that he still had some kind of privilege in front of Jiang Quanyu.
Wen Shixi walked to a corner of the sofa and sat down lazily as well.
“Why should I contact you?” he asked: “Like those omegas who just found out you’re back in the country and are trying to find you by any means?”
Jiang Quanyu paused, silent for a few seconds.
The two sat on either side of the sofa, with a large distance between them.
Then, Jiang Quanyu spoke, changing the subject: “The doctor and the housekeeper will come together tomorrow morning. Go and rest.”
Wen Shixi: “I’m going to find Li Chen tomorrow.”
Jiang Quanyu: “To reconcile with him?”
Wen Shixi: “Yeah.”
Jiang Quanyu: “I’ve already notified the lawyer to handle everything.”
Wen Shixi’s face was slightly raised: “Whether it’s Ling Xiao or Li Chen, I don’t want you to handle everything for me.”
Jiang Quanyu frowned slightly when he heard this, and crossed his arms: “Then how do you want to reconcile with him? Show him your glands again and let him bite you?”
Jiang Quanyu had watched the surveillance video at the police station at the time. When he saw Wen Shixi taking off the suppression patch himself, his face was extremely ugly.
“So what?” Wen Shixi’s tone was indifferent, as if he really didn’t care at all: “If he wants to mark me that much, then he can mark me. It’s better than going to jail, and I can also ask him not to continue making things worse.”
As Wen Shixi spoke, he turned to look at Jiang Quanyu, his tone indifferent: “For brother, it would be too ugly to have news of his brother and an alpha fighting because of a love dispute, right?”
Jiang Quanyu: “I should have taught you that you should never accept threats from others. All compromises at this time will only lead to more escalation.”
Wen Shixi: “Then I shouldn’t be here now. When you threatened me and said you’d be angry, I should have jumped out of the car.”
In the face of his humble but firm answer, Jiang Quanyu finally turned his head to meet Wen Shixi’s gaze.
Wen Shixi was occasionally stubborn, and his face always looked indifferent, as if without any expression, but his eyes were particularly bright, full of unwillingness to obey.
He knew Jiang Quanyu too well, knew what Jiang Quanyu hated the most, and knew what he could use to negotiate with Jiang Quanyu.
If Jiang Quanyu didn’t agree to let him handle it himself, he wouldn’t stay here tonight.
In the eye contact, Wen Shixi asked knowingly: “Are you angry?”
Jiang Quanyu’s gaze was obscure and difficult to understand, quietly looking over Wen Shixi’s face.
Then, Jiang Quanyu turned his eyes away.
“Go if you want to, go upstairs and sleep now.”
The faint sound of compromise came slowly, with an undeniable indulgence.
Wen Shixi’s eyebrows moved slightly, and he did feel a little strange.
He probed repeatedly, but Jiang Quanyu let him go every time.
The ocean outside the French windows was pitch black, and only a little bit of the edge of the clouds, dyed by the moonlight, could be seen clearly.
Wen Shixi sat in place for a while, then silently got up and walked to the stairs.
He had nothing else to say to Jiang Quanyu and planned to go upstairs to rest as Jiang Quanyu said.
When he reached halfway up the stairs, Wen Shixi stopped inexplicably.
He stood in the middle of the stairs, his eyelashes drooping with his gaze, slowly looking at the man still sitting in the living room.
In the seaside villa late at night, apart from the sound of footsteps just now, there was no extra sound.
Wen Shixi had always been curious since he was a child, what was Jiang Quanyu thinking about when he sat alone quietly?
Even though he was adopted by the Jiang family, Wen Shixi knew that he and Jiang Quanyu were fundamentally people from two different worlds.
Since they were fake brothers, why did Jiang Quanyu really treat him as a brother? And why would they be in the same house like this now?
The light refracted by the light prism decorated the light-colored floral patterns between the wallpapers, and the interior decoration looked a bit old. The wooden furniture flowed with the warm traces of the years.
Wen Shixi paused for a few seconds and asked.
“Jiang Quanyu, why did you come back to the country?”
