Chapter 18: Possessive Desire – Play Only for Me.

Wen Shixi was stumped by the question, and after thinking with his not-so-bright little brain, he replied:

    “I like it.”

Not just for his father, he also liked the piano.

He liked the complex and difficult-to-understand musical stories, using them to gaze at the vastness of the world and feel all kinds of complex and colorful emotions.

He also liked the feeling of the notes flowing under his hands, which allowed him to feel a little bit of freedom that belonged to him in this extremely oppressive old house.

In the moonlight of that year, little Wen Shixi opened his bright eyes and asked Jiang Quanyu: “If I continue to play the piano, will brother still come to see me?”

Jiang Quanyu heard Wen Shixi’s words, crossed his arms in front of his chest.

The young man’s eyes were momentarily obscure and difficult to understand, the light particles in his eyes flickering faintly, like a silent riddle.

After a long time, Jiang Quanyu said.

“You have to play for me, and then I’ll consider it.”

Wen Shixi felt that he used to play the piano for Jiang Yan, and now he plays for Jiang Quanyu, it seems like there’s not much difference.

A tender voice with a sob echoed, agreeing.

    “Okay, I’ll play for you.”

Soon, the person making requests once again took it a step further: “Play only for me.”

Wen Shixi was innocent and naive: “Yeah, only for you.”

Wen Shixi knew that Jiang Quanyu was already an adult and wouldn’t take his childish promise seriously.

But he guarded this sentence, and from that day on, he only played the piano for Jiang Quanyu alone.

In the days that followed, besides practicing the piano, Wen Shixi’s favorite thing to do was to follow behind Jiang Quanyu’s ass, running around like a little tail.

He always looked up, obediently calling “brother,” saying that he really liked his brother and wanted to be with him forever.

No one was surprised that Wen Shixi became Jiang Quanyu’s little tail. As the heir, Jiang Quanyu was supposed to be the center of attention.

But gradually, everyone belatedly realized, and they were all astonished that Jiang Quanyu was simply too good to this suddenly appearing little tail.

Everything about Wen Shixi, from the most basic necessities of food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, to the school he attended, the teachers who taught him, and even the piano tutor and tuner, Jiang Quanyu had to personally pick them all.

What Wen Shixi liked to eat, his favorite color, what he was good at and not good at—brother arranged everything properly for Wen Shixi.

Although Jiang Quanyu still had that unsmiling appearance, this care completely exceeded pity and sympathy. Not only was he obedient to Wen Shixi in every way, but even when his delicate younger brother fell during a physical education class at school, the caring older brother would drive from the company to the school to see him in person before he could rest assured.

In a short period, Jiang Quanyu used all the rights, status, and money he possessed to tell everyone in Linggang that Wen Shixi was the Jiang family’s treasured young master.

Then, he used the slow passage of time to transform Wen Shixi from a trapped beast back into a lively and cheerful little boy.

Jiang Quanyu would accompany Wen Shixi to play the piano, accompany him to memorize scores, and accompany him to concerts.

During vacations, he would also take Wen Shixi on vacations to various corners of the world.

Young Wen Shixi rarely asked for anything. The only time he did, it was after hearing his classmates talk about their experiences riding horses in Scotland.

After Jiang Quanyu learned about it, he spent a lot of effort to buy Wen Shixi a docile and adorable young pony from the distant Shetland Islands in England.

On many weekends, he would spend time with Wen Shixi at the horse farm, feeding Wen Shixi’s little pony together, then holding Wen Shixi in his arms and riding horses together.

The arrogant young heir, with extraordinary gentleness and care, fulfilled all of his younger brother’s wishes.

Time flew by, and Wen Shixi grew up little by little under Jiang Quanyu’s care in the eyes of everyone’s incomprehension and envy.

In the stable years, Wen Shixi worked very hard.

In order to become an excellent pianist worthy of the Jiang family, he never relaxed his practice for a single day.

No matter what kind of piece, how high the difficulty, or what insurmountable technique, he could overcome them one by one.

Not only because he liked the piano, but also because every time he finished practicing, Jiang Quanyu would come to the piano room, be his only audience, applaud for him, and buy all kinds of toys for him.

The teddy bear on the piano was the gift Jiang Quanyu gave him the first time he heard Wen Shixi’s own arrangement of the “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” variations.

It represented that Jiang Quanyu would be with him in the piano room every time Wen Shixi played the piano.

The surrounding of all things beautiful and warm made Wen Shixi firmly believe that as long as he was serious enough, he could live peacefully by Jiang Quanyu’s side forever.

Time, in the name of “family,” sewed together two people whose paths would otherwise never have crossed, until they could no longer be separated.

If it weren’t for those events seven years ago, Wen Shixi might still be having such a beautiful dream.

He would still be Jiang Quanyu’s important family member, and still possess what he thought he could possess.

The sea breeze kept blowing, and the vast sea surface gradually darkened in the fading sunset glow.

Wen Shixi stood on the villa’s terrace for a while, pinched his sore eyebrows, and took out his phone from his pocket.

The moment the phone screen lit up, it appeared abrupt and glaring in this light.

After his eyes slowly adjusted, Wen Shixi lightly touched the dial pad and dialed a string of numbers.

After seven years, these were still eleven numbers he would never misremember.

Wen Shixi thought for a moment, but didn’t dial it out. Instead, he sent a text message to the number.

“I want to go home, I want to practice the piano.”

Wen Shixi knew that the doctor would report his physical condition to Jiang Quanyu without missing a detail. Jiang Quanyu should have no reason to keep him here any longer.

But Wen Shixi waited for half an hour and didn’t receive any reply.

The setting sun gradually dimmed, replaced by the evening mist.

Wen Shixi sat on the swing on the terrace, swinging his legs back and forth, while silently memorizing his favorite scores in his mind and coaxing himself to play on the swing.

He didn’t know how long had passed before he sensed something was wrong.

The waves were flickering in the dim light. It was already late, and it should have been dinner time long ago, but no one had come to call him downstairs to eat.

Wen Shixi hesitated to get up, and then, when he looked at the entrance of the terrace, he was stunned in place.

The person who hadn’t even made a phone call was now leaning against the terrace door, silently gazing at him.

Jiang Quanyu didn’t know how long he had been standing there, wearing an impeccable double-breasted trench coat over a black suit, exuding the unique depth and tranquility of the night. His dark eyes were stained with sea mist, both deep and blurred.

Startled, Wen Shixi took a few seconds to recover and asked, “… Are you a ghost? Why are you standing there without saying anything?”

Jiang Quanyu: “What were you thinking about, so lost in thought?”

“I wasn’t thinking about anything.” Wen Shixi said, “Why did you come?”

Jiang Quanyu said nonchalantly, “I don’t think I need to report my reasons for coming here to Wen Shixi.”

Hearing this, Wen Shixi gradually revealed a faint smile.

The distant sea waves gently surged, like countless kisses to the dim sky.

Wen Shixi leaned back into the swing, swaying back and forth, and said in a light tone, “I obediently stayed in your cage, and you didn’t even show your face. As soon as I said I wanted to leave, you rushed over here… Brother, it’s not good to be so controlling.”

As he spoke, the beautiful young man’s soft lips kept opening and closing, always with a smile on the corner of his mouth. The collar of his home clothes shirt was slightly open, and the fabric swayed, intertwined with the sea breeze.

Jiang Quanyu’s gaze slowly sank, falling on that slender and well-proportioned body.

Wen Shixi didn’t seem to feel cold. The fabric of his light pink home clothes was thin, covering his skin, and all the undulations of his body were clearly visible.

The thin chest below the collarbone, extending to his sensual narrow waist, every contour was completely visible under the cover of the fabric.

As the night deepened, Jiang Quanyu withdrew his gaze, ignoring Wen Shixi’s teasing.

“Stop playing, come downstairs for dinner,” Jiang Quanyu said.

Then, as he stepped towards the house, he said, “I’ll take you back after you’re done eating.”
