WT Chapter 22
by BLReadsChapter 22: Alpha List – There Isn’t a Normal Alpha in the Entire Harbor…
In the silence, Wen Shixi stammered, “You said… what?”
But Jiang Quanyu didn’t answer, nor did he linger. He walked to the door, his hand on the doorknob.
His departing figure seemed to have no hesitation. The door closed with a soft click, and the footsteps completely disappeared, leaving the apartment empty.
Wen Shixi stared at the empty entrance, his hands relaxing and clenching again.
His eyes gleamed with specks of light that seemed to come from nowhere, trembling slightly with his constantly shifting pupils.
What did “a list of suitable alphas for marriage” mean… What nonsense was Jiang Quanyu spouting?
Wen Shixi hesitated, lifting one foot slightly, taking a small step towards the door, but quickly stopped in place.
The clock ticked slowly, and Wen Shixi’s mind buzzed.
Brother… wants him to marry another alpha?
Amidst the chaos, an aged voice, like a pronouncement, echoed quietly from the depths of his memory.
“Quanyu should have arrived in Washington by now.”
“Shixi, you should know that Quanyu treats you this way because, in his heart, there’s a vast difference in status between you two, right?”
Wen Shixi bit his lip lightly.
How could Jiang Quanyu push him into marriage like this?
Just then, a crisp doorbell rang.
Wen Shixi looked up sharply, gazing at the ringing door.
He strode forward, hurrying to the door.
As the door opened, Wen Shixi’s leaning body froze.
His gaze stopped on the stranger outside the door, the look on his face suddenly halting.
The person outside wore a neat courier uniform, with a friendly and polite smile. “Are you Mr. Wen? I have a personal package for you.”
Wen Shixi paused for a moment, his gaze shifting downwards, looking at the file envelope in the person’s hand.
Courier: “The sender information indicates that it’s a very important document, please sign for it here.”
The turmoil in his heart gradually calmed down amidst the interlude. Before long, the door closed again, and Wen Shixi stood directly behind the door panel, holding the courier bag.
His fingers moved slowly, tearing open the opening on the courier bag, and he took out the black envelope inside.
A white English ribbon wrapped the envelope, giving it a sense of ceremony.
Wen Shixi untied the ribbon and took out the invitation from the envelope.
On the exquisite and delicate background pattern, the gold-lettered words were particularly luxurious.
“Welcome aboard the Princess Anne cruise ship. You will embark on a romantic journey, exploring the beauty and vastness of the ocean.”
–
The harbor at midnight was bathed in a hazy moonlight, everywhere quiet and peaceful.
The entire city had fallen asleep, leaving only streetlights, looking down from above, like a bright, warm-toned starry sky in a tangled pattern.
Inside the spacious presidential suite, exquisite furnishings gleamed. Three men sat quietly in front of their respective computers.
Jiang Quanyu was silent, the sleeves of his shirt neatly rolled up. He gazed at the list on the screen of the laptop in front of him, his eyes reflecting a cold light.
The phone on the desk lit up, a message from “Shixi.”
“Jiang Quanyu, answer the phone.”
“I won’t get married, do you hear?”
“Answer the phone.”
The call rang again, but Jiang Quanyu glanced at the screen and still didn’t intend to answer.
The assistant next to him focused on organizing the forms. Across from him, Chen Jiale, who had been dragged in to “work overtime,” sat behind the desk, frowning as he looked at the contents of the list while scrolling with the mouse wheel.
The list of young talents in Linggang, compiled by the assistant overnight, was filled with the past experiences, wealth, and abilities of these up-and-comers.
“This Lin Yining is no good either.” Chen Jiale said, propping up his cheek. “This person looks gentle and refined, but he got four Omegas pregnant last year alone. His father was furious and sent him to Australia to behave for half a year; he wasn’t there to do business at all. Jiang Mingjing… even worse. My brother talked to him about the Jintai Department Store project and said that this person plays very excessively in private and seems to have S.M tendencies.”
Jiang Quanyu listened, silent, gazing at Chen Jiale’s face.
Chen Jiale: “…”
Young Master Chen felt very innocent: “Didn’t you ask me to help you screen the list? Why are you looking at me like that?”
It was chilling, as if he was about to kill someone.
Jiang Quanyu’s eyes were filled with sternness: “Are there no normal alphas in the entire harbor?”
Chen Jiale scrolled the wheel again, pointing to a photo on the screen: “Isn’t this one pretty good? From a family of doctors, young and promising, and as far as I know, he has a good character.”
Jiang Quanyu: “You just said he has a first love who is studying abroad.”
Chen Jiale: “Yes, so what? They broke up years ago.”
Jiang Quanyu: “No.”
Chen Jiale had a head full of question marks: “Then youDislike that the one who has no dating experience is too dull.”
Jiang Quanyu looked calm: “Yes, so what?”
Chen Jiale was silent for a few seconds after hearing this.
This wasn’t choosing an alpha at all. According to Jiang Quanyu’s requirements, no one could meet the standards.
“Can you stop torturing me and Assistant Gu?” Chen Jiale leaned back, resting on the back of the chair. “Why are you finding Wen Shixi alphas? When has he ever been without alphas? He can find a whole bunch himself.”
Jiang Quanyu didn’t speak, his face gloomy.
He sat quietly for a moment, then slowly raised his hand and rubbed his aching eyebrows.
Wen Shixi’s pheromone imbalance disorder was incurable and could only be alleviated by alphas.
He didn’t really want to lock Wen Shixi in the villa, tying his limbs with restraints, and having doctors come to give him injections every month.
As long as Wen Shixi was obedient and did what he said.
A faint fragrance permeated the suite, drifting in the air.
Chen Jiale yawned, rubbing his eyes, and sincerely asked, “It’s so late, can’t I really go home and wash up and sleep first? Aren’t we going on the ship tomorrow?”
Anyway, young Master Chen knew very well that Jiang Quanyu couldn’t possibly choose a satisfactory alpha.
Jiang Quanyu really had a way of torturing people, without sparing even himself.
Assistant Gu next to him was affected by Chen Jiale and couldn’t help but yawn as well.
Jiang Quanyu was silent for a moment.
“Okay.” He breathed out and said to the two, “Go back and rest first.”
The assistant got up upon hearing this, bowed slightly, and prepared to turn and leave.
At this moment, the phone in the assistant’s pocket vibrated.
Assistant Gu took out his phone and looked at it, stopping in his tracks. He turned to look at Jiang Quanyu: “President Jiang, the organizers of the cruise dinner sent a message saying that when checking the list, they found that your uncle and younger brother are also on your accompanying list. Do you know about this?”
Jiang Quanyu raised his head, his brow furrowing slightly: “Shixi and uncle?”
“Yes.” The assistant said: “Do you need me to verify what happened with them?”
Jiang Quanyu thought about it, his attitude ambiguous: “No need, it doesn’t matter. Tell them to send over the final confirmed list of guests and forward it to me to take a look. You can go back and rest first.”
Assistant Gu nodded: “Okay, then I’ll forward the list to your phone later. You should rest early too.”
After the assistant finished speaking, he bowed again, got up, and walked towards the door.
Chen Jiale watched the assistant leave and also stood up from the sofa.
“I’m leaving too.” Chen Jiale said: “I haven’t packed my luggage yet.”
Jiang Quanyu: “Okay.”
“Oh, right.” Chen Jiale remembered something: “I ran into Shen Chuji a few days ago, and he asked me about your recent situation. Haven’t you called him for regular checkups lately?”
Speaking of this matter, Jiang Quanyu revealed a bit of impatience: “Wait until I get back from this trip at sea.”
“You have to pay attention.” Chen Jiale put on his coat: “Look at your uncle, mental illness can also be affected by genes.”
As the voice fell, a dark light appeared in Jiang Quanyu’s eyes.
He slightly raised his chin, his deep eyes staring at Chen Jiale again without saying a word.
Chen Jiale: “…”
Young Master Chen was really kindly reminding, not trying to insult anyone.
Chen Jiale endured the humiliation: “Okay, I’m the one who’s mentally ill.”
He walked towards the door, his tone light, and waved his hand: “I’m leaving, you sleep early, see you tomorrow.”
As Chen Jiale left, in the quiet suite, Jiang Quanyu sat on the sofa for a while longer before finally getting up to wash up.
Before long, in the cold-toned, extremely dark bedroom, a figure slowly walked out of the bathroom.
Jiang Quanyu was wearing a bathrobe, the skin exposed at the collar streaked with water, his hair also containing cold water. As he walked, the coolness brushed against the skin at the corners of his eyes.
His phone screen glowed, Wen Shixi’s SMS bombing had changed its tune and finally come to an end.
“Jiang Quanyu, I won’t marry the person you arranged.”
“I’ll find someone to marry myself, you don’t have to worry about it.”
And the last one.
“Brother will wait to receive the invitation.”
After that, Wen Shixi seemed to finally give up and stopped sending messages, but who knows if he had started to busy himself with finding someone to marry.
Jiang Quanyu sat by the bed, always immersed in the darkness.
Before long, the phone rang again. It was an internal company message sent by other employees in the president’s office.
“Mr. Wen hasn’t left the house. Besides a courier coming after you left, no one else has come.”
The surveillance lurking in unknown corners was like an impenetrable wall.
Wen Shixi simply called this a cage, which was both fitting and seemed far from enough.
It was seven years… or even longer, already untraceable.
Jiang Quanyu’s fingertips moved lightly, turning off the phone screen.
The light suddenly disappeared, his vision darkened, turning into a hollow darkness.
