Chapter 35: Testing – I only need you.
The room fell silent as Wen Shixi spoke.
Jiang Quanyu’s dark eyes were filled with unspoken words as he gazed at the figure on the bed.
In his eyes, Wen Shixi’s almond eyes were half-open, making him seem nonchalant, yet the question was sharp, like an invisible force, squeezing his throat, interrogating his every breath.
“Wen Shixi,” Jiang Quanyu said softly, “Don’t test me.”
As the words fell, the pressure of the forbidden zone being touched followed.
The sudden feeling of suffocation made Wen Shixi feel somewhat lost.
Wen Shixi held on for a few seconds, then turned his head, averting his gaze.
Jiang Quanyu didn’t answer him.
Wen Shixi forced a smile, and quickly said, “Okay, but whether brother is really engaged, or it’s just a rumor, I don’t care at all, you don’t need to come and tell me this specifically.”
Jiang Quanyu’s expression was indifferent, and when he heard Wen Shixi say that he didn’t care, he became even more inscrutable.
He looked at Wen Shixi’s slightly turned face, at the mouth that opened and closed, and was silent for a moment in the dimness.
Hesitantly, Jiang Quanyu was about to speak –
Suddenly, a phone rang, breaking the silence and echoing in the still room.
Jiang Quanyu lowered his head, took out his phone from his pocket, and after looking at the caller ID, answered the call.
After a brief listen, Jiang Quanyu said, “I’m busy, let Jian Yunheng and Chen Jiale go over.”
He didn’t know what the person on the other end said, but the voice came from the phone’s receiver, separated by radio waves.
Sitting on the bed, Wen Shixi could hear faint sounds, but couldn’t make out the content, and could only watch Jiang Quanyu’s brow furrow slightly with those words.
After a moment, Jiang Quanyu raised his hand, tugged impatiently at his tie, and changed his mind, saying, “Okay, I’ll come now.”
As he spoke, he took the phone away from his ear and hung up.
The faint light emitted from the phone screen extinguished as the screen locked, and the quiet room returned to the deep darkness of before.
Jiang Quanyu’s gaze swept across the figure on the bed: “I have to go.”
Wen Shixi: “…”
“Okay.”
In the darkness, Jiang Quanyu raised his foot and turned to walk towards the bedroom door.
Footsteps echoed, moving all the way to the door.
Then, Jiang Quanyu stood at the door for a moment.
The short time was inexplicably stretched, and the second hand on the old clock ticked with a pause, surpassing the heartbeat in twos and threes.
Wen Shixi sat motionless on the bed, listening to his own breathing, gently gritting his teeth.
Then, at the moment Jiang Quanyu stepped again, Wen Shixi suddenly spoke.
“So what…”
His clear voice echoed in the room, with a hint of confusion soaked in alcohol.
“In your heart… Tang Xu and I, are we both your younger brothers?”
“Isn’t it just me?” Wen Shixi murmured, “During these days away from me, have you been by Tang Xu’s side, taking care of him like you used to take care of me?”
In all the days and nights of separation, would Jiang Quanyu also listen to Tang Xu’s piano, look at that face that was much more obedient than his, and allow Tang Xu to completely replace Wen Shixi in the title of “younger brother”?
In the soft question, Jiang Quanyu’s footsteps stopped.
He stood in the center of the door, his figure elusive, fixed on the edge of his vision.
Wen Shixi raised his hands, folded them on his forehead, covered his tightly furrowed brows, and closed his eyes.
He was completely annoyed, and his tone rose slightly: “Ah, if you have nothing to say, then leave quickly, if I stay with you any longer, I’ll have nightmares.”
Wen Shixi had just asked, but suddenly didn’t want to hear Jiang Quanyu’s answer.
Whether it was “younger brother” or pianist, what kind of person couldn’t Jiang Quanyu have?
Wen Shixi clenched his fists lightly, feeling that he shouldn’t overstep the line.
As he was being chased away, Jiang Quanyu said helplessly.
“I told you, don’t compare yourself to anyone.”
Wen Shixi’s tightly bound heart paused slowly, and then started again the next second.
Jiang Quanyu’s face, hidden in the shadows, had a bit of softness, but he still didn’t turn his head.
He just slowly opened his mouth and coaxed softly.
“Wen Shixi, you spoiled little child, I only need you.”
The moonlight was gentle, brushing over the two faces that did not look at each other.
Jiang Quanyu said slowly: “I have many things that I need to know from Tang Xu’s father, as for those reports you saw, about me going to listen to Tang Xu’s performances, if you investigate carefully, you will find that I have gone to watch every performance of every famous orchestra in Washington, Tang Xu is just one of the many collaborating performers.”
In the low, slow voice, Wen Shixi listened to his own breathing, and both hands fell limply.
It must be because the lights weren’t on, so Wen Shixi couldn’t understand his own heart.
His empty body was filled with Jiang Quanyu’s pheromones, as if even his heart had been filled with something that didn’t belong to him.
“Jiang Quanyu, I really hate you,” Wen Shixi said.
Soon, a shallow breath came from the direction of the door.
As if to say, Wen Shixi’s current appearance was very much like that small and clumsy child sitting in the piano room.
Combining the end of the chuckle, Jiang Quanyu asked: “I have to go now, can you sleep obediently by yourself? After all, you are already twenty-five years old.”
“Of course.” Wen Shixi’s tone was lazy, strange, and he retorted without showing weakness: “If I can’t sleep, the spoiled little child will also find a storybook to read.”
Jiang Quanyu stood in place for a moment, accepting Wen Shixi’s words completely: “I will find someone to send you a storybook, and I will also find someone to guard you outside the door, I will be very busy all night, if there is nothing to do, then don’t go out again.”
Hearing this, Wen Shixi raised his face in confusion: “What does this mean?”
He thought for a moment, straightened up, and fixed his gaze on Jiang Quanyu’s back.
Jiang Quanyu was uncharacteristically patient, confirming word by word.
“Yes, it means exactly what it says.”
Wen Shixi was slightly stunned.
So, Jiang Quanyu wasn’t even pretending anymore, and was going to directly lock him in the room?
The cruise ship slowly sailed into the high seas, wandering in the sea dotted with stars and moons.
Jiang Quanyu’s footsteps came again, gentle like a light touch.
Seeing Jiang Quanyu leave, Wen Shixi suddenly stood up from the bed.
But for a moment, he didn’t chase after him, only listening to the sound getting farther and farther away in a daze.
After a moment, the sound of the door closing outside the suite was neither loud nor soft, taking away all sound.
In the empty room, time flowed slowly, Wen Shixi’s legs went weak, and he sat back down by the bed.
He looked at the sea outside the cabin window, his whole person sluggishly recalling.
Jiang Quanyu had come, explained a bunch of things to him, said that he wouldn’t marry Tang Xu, and left a room full of pheromones declaring ownership.
Before leaving, he had locked him in a cage, as he had said before.
His heart was beating irregularly, sounding chaotic in his brain.
Wen Shixi gently clenched his hands, and got up from the bed again.
He slowly walked out of the bedroom and came to the door.
He quietly looked at the door that Jiang Quanyu had just left, his eyes a mess.
