XYLFTL Chapter 1
by BLReadsChapter 1
Lin Anping slowly opened her eyes, a bitter taste in her mouth. She sat up abruptly, taking in the surroundings.
This is Grandmother’s House? How am I here? As she pondered,
“An’an, you’re finally awake! You scared Grandmother to death. Why did you suddenly faint?”
Lin Anping looked at her Grandmother, but her words gradually faded as a voice echoed in her mind: “Due to your superior moral character and lack of wrongdoing, you have been granted a chance at rebirth. It is now the beginning of 2015. Enjoy this life.”
As the voice disappeared, Lin Anping couldn’t hold back her tears. She embraced her Grandmother tightly. Grandmother comforted her, “Don’t cry, don’t cry. Grandmother’s here. What’s wrong, my dear?”
Seeing the real environment and her real Grandmother before her, Lin Anping wiped away her tears and said, “It’s nothing, Grandmother. I had a nightmare. I’m fine now that I’m awake.”
“Good, as long as you’re okay. You lie down for a while. Grandmother will heat up some food for you, your favorite, stir-fried pork with chili.”
Grandmother stroked Lin Anping’s head. Lin Anping nodded vigorously. After Grandmother left, Lin Anping calmed herself and looked at the calendar on the wall. Chinese New Year’s Eve had passed, and in a little over two weeks, someone would come claiming she was the long-lost daughter of the Lin family. Lin Anping scoffed. In this life, she would never acknowledge them.
Her thoughts drifted back to her previous life… “Hello, are you Miss Lin Anping? We believe you may be the biological daughter of our Lin Father, who was lost many years ago. Please come with us to the DNA Testing Center.”
A group of people dressed like bodyguards, led by one in the front, said.
Lin Anping was dumbfounded. “Huh?”
The leader took out a report. “This is your blood sample report from your physical examinations over the years. It matches our Lin Father’s. Lin Father did lose a daughter many years ago. She was stolen shortly after birth. We found your information during our search, and your age matches.”
After reading the report, Lin Anping more or less understood. Her grandmother had told her when she was eighteen that she was adopted. But she knew that her grandmother had raised her alone for many years, and it hadn’t been easy. Her grandmother had been so good to her, and she didn’t want to actively seek out her biological parents.
But now that they had found her, Lin Anping looked at her Grandmother. Grandmother said, “Go ahead. Go see your biological parents. Maybe they didn’t abandon you on purpose.”
Lin Anping nodded, packed a few things, and left with them.
The journey was uneventful. Upon arriving at the DNA Testing Center, a couple was already waiting. When the Lin family couple saw Lin Anping, they probably knew the answer. Lin Anping simply combined the best features of the two of them.
She stood there, her eyes clear, and her dark and long hair made her skin appear even more pale. Plus, her figure was tall.
Lin Mother’s eyes were full of affection. She wondered if she could get along with Lin Yuan.
Lin Father cleared his throat. “Alright, let’s get the test done.”
After the test, Lin Anping waited outside with Lin Father and Lin Mother. Lin Mother asked, “Anping, right? How old are you? When is your birthday?”
“Nineteen, January 30th,” Lin Anping replied.
Upon hearing the date, Lin Mother’s eyes lit up with excitement. She said to Lin Father, “See, the date matches. She looks like both of us. It must be her.”
Lin Father, being a businessman, remained calm and said, “Let’s not jump to conclusions until the report comes out.”
As time ticked by, the report was brought out by the testing doctor. Lin Father and Lin Mother immediately stepped forward to read it. Upon seeing that the probability value of the parent-child relationship was calculated to be 99.99999%,
Lin Father and Lin Mother immediately went to Lin Anping and said, “Good, our daughter. We’ve finally found you.”
Lin Anping asked doubtfully, “You didn’t abandon me on purpose?”
Lin Father said, “Of course not. Some hateful person stole you, causing us to search for so long.”
In her previous life, Lin Anping had believed their lies, thinking she wasn’t an abandoned child.
On the way home, Lin Mother said, “An’an, it seems your grandmother raised you well. We won’t change your name. We’ll just call you Lin Anping.”
“Okay, Mother,” Lin Anping replied obediently.
Seeing Lin Anping being so obedient, Lin Mother felt relieved. “Actually, you have an older sister. She was born earlier than you, but she was sent to the incubator because of her health, and you were stolen.”
Lin Anping began to wonder what her sister would be like. She should be about the same age as her. At that time, Lin Anping believed everything.
In fact, Lin Father and Lin Mother couldn’t bear to part with Lin Yuan. They wouldn’t tell Lin Anping that Lin Yuan and she had been switched at birth.
Recalling this, Lin Anping revealed a helpless smile, thinking, How could I have been so naive and believed everything? But Lin Father and Lin Mother were also foolish. They didn’t even investigate Lin Yuan’s biological parents. Lin Yuan was contacting her biological mother right under their noses, just treating Lin Father and Lin Mother as ATMs.
But none of that mattered to her anymore, Lin Anping thought.
In her previous life, Lin Anping hadn’t even done anything after arriving home when Lin Yuan put on a wronged expression, hugging Lin Mother and saying, “Mom and Dad, do you still want me? I feel like my sister doesn’t like me.”
Lin Yuan looked at the beautiful Lin Anping, who also looked like her parents. Jealousy was practically written all over her face.
Lin Anping was speechless. Why was this sister like those annoying characters in novels? But she still stepped forward and said, “Sister, I don’t dislike you. I hope we can coexist peacefully.”
Lin Anping extended her hand.
Lin Yuan ignored her and ran away. Lin Father and Lin Mother told Lin Anping to be more understanding. Later, Lin Yuan often framed Lin Anping, putting obstacles in her path.
Even when Lin Anping’s grandmother was suddenly hospitalized and needed money for treatment, Lin Yuan turned the tables, saying that Lin Anping had come for money, that her grandmother wasn’t sick at all, and that Lin Anping was spending money on men.
Lin Father and Lin Mother were angry and wouldn’t give Lin Anping money. No matter what Lin Anping said, it was useless. The money she had saved wasn’t enough, which led to her grandmother not getting surgery in time and passing away. Thinking of this, Lin Anping felt another surge of anger. But seeing her Grandmother, who was still able to cook for her in the living room, she thought, Forget it. It’s good that Grandmother and I are doing well now.
Later, Lin Yuan poisoned Lin Anping’s water, killing her. When Lin Anping opened her eyes again, she had returned to the past. So, she would prevent everything from happening.
Lin Anping got up and walked to her Grandmother’s side. “Grandmother, let me do it!”
Grandmother was unwilling, but Lin Anping insisted and helped Grandmother to sit aside.
“Grandmother, you’re getting older. Let me do what I can. Otherwise, I’ll be leaving for school soon, and I won’t be able to do it even if I wanted to.”
Lin Anping said to Grandmother as she stir-fried in the pot.
Grandmother nodded. “Alright, alright! Whatever An’an says.”
While eating, Lin Anping said to Grandmother, “Grandmother, I’ll take you to the hospital this weekend. Don’t say no. The money’s already been paid, and I can’t get a refund.”
“Oh! Look at you, spending that unnecessary money again. My health is fine!”
Grandmother sighed.
“Even if you’re fine, you still need regular checkups. I’m going too. I’ll go with you. We’ll both get checked,” Lin Anping said with a smile.
Grandmother looked at Lin Anping, knowing she was doing it for her own good, and agreed without saying anything more.
A few days later… At the hospital, Lin Anping helped Grandmother through the checkups. After submitting everything, they waited for the report in the afternoon.
Lin Anping first took Grandmother to eat. As they left the hospital, Lin Anping saw Lin Father and Lin Mother walking towards the testing center. Lin Anping thought, So, this is when they found out.
At the restaurant, Lin Anping ordered two bowls of noodles, both with extra eggs and sausage. Grandmother was about to give her sausage to Lin Anping again, but Lin Anping said, “Grandmother, I have one.”
Grandmother smiled. “Grandmother doesn’t like sausage. You can have it.”
Lin Anping immediately put her egg over. “I don’t like eggs. Grandmother can have it.”
“You child,” Grandmother said with a smile.
Lin Anping stuck her tongue out at Grandmother and started eating her noodles, thinking as she ate. She knew that those people would come looking for her in a few days.
After eating, Lin Anping went to get the report. As expected, it showed that Grandmother had high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other problems. Lin Anping asked the doctor, and he said that she needed a proper diet and medication for treatment, but surgery wasn’t necessary at the moment.
After getting the medicine, Grandmother looked at it and said, “It’s true that people get old. Alas!”
Lin Anping looked at Grandmother. “It’s a good thing we came early. Now that we’ve found it, we can take medicine on time, and maybe nothing will happen!”
Lin Anping helped Grandmother. Grandmother smiled, but she was worried about what An’an would do in the future. Would she be alone? She was still so young.
Back home, Grandmother began searching for her bank cards and handed them to Lin Anping. “An’an, find some time to check how much money is in Grandmother’s cards. Grandmother will give it all to you.”
“Grandmother!” Lin Anping’s eyes turned red. “You’ll be healthy. Don’t think about these things now.”
“Alright. Alright. Grandmother won’t think about it. Good girl, don’t cry.”
Grandmother stepped forward and patted Lin Anping. “It’s Grandmother’s fault. I shouldn’t have said that.”
Lin Anping didn’t really want to cry. She was just too afraid of losing her Grandmother again.
In the next few days, Lin Anping urged Grandmother to take her medicine every day, and it was effective. Grandmother knew to take her medicine without Lin Anping telling her.
Lin Anping thoughtfully bought many small bags, divided the medicine, and calculated that she should buy medicine again before school started, buying a month’s worth at a time. She would try to come back once a month, but the tickets from Jingcheng to here were too expensive.
Days gradually passed. The day that was supposed to come finally arrived. Those bodyguards appeared again, saying the same words. After Lin Anping listened to them, Grandmother spoke first. “An’an, go get a test.”
Lin Anping was surprised. Then she realized that it was probably because she had taken Grandmother to see a doctor, and Grandmother had realized her own health situation. Thinking that she would have someone to rely on if she went, she triggered this sentence in advance.
Lin Anping nodded. “Grandmother, I’ll still come back to be with you.”
Grandmother nodded and waved her hand. “Go ahead.”
Lin Anping left with them, without packing anything, because she wouldn’t go with them.
When she arrived at the place and saw Lin Father and Lin Mother, Lin Anping only felt annoyed. She didn’t say a word and quietly waited for the results. She knew the result would be that she was their daughter, and they would take her away.
Finally, the doctor pushed open the door, and Lin Father and Lin Mother immediately wanted to take Lin Anping home.
Lin Anping said, “I won’t. Grandmother is old. She raised me. I need to be with her.”
Lin Mother felt sad. “You don’t want to go home with us?”
Lin Anping said, “You didn’t raise me, so there’s no need to take me back now. You still have children, but Grandmother only has me.”
After hearing these words, Lin Father said, “Anping, Mom and Dad didn’t abandon you on purpose. You’re our flesh and blood!”
Lin Anping shook her head. “It’s been 19 years. You were so close, but with the Lin family’s power, you would have found me long ago.”
Lin Father and Lin Mother didn’t speak. Lin Anping continued, “I don’t blame you. Just pretend you don’t have this daughter. Let’s part ways amicably.”
Saying that, she turned to leave. Lin Mother chased after her and turned Lin Anping around. “We should give you some money, as a sort of upbringing fee.”
Lin Anping thought for a moment. Grandmother would need money if she got sick, but she was also afraid that taking the money would tie her to their family.
In the end, Lin Anping didn’t take it and said, “Forget it. Keep it and take care of yourselves.”
Lin Anping turned and left.
Lin Father and Lin Mother were left standing there in a daze. Lin Mother looked at the child who looked so much like her and her husband and felt very disappointed.
Lin Father patted Lin Mother’s back. “It’s okay. There’s still plenty of time. We’ll visit the person who adopted Anping next time.”
Lin Mother nodded and followed Lin Father. Lin Father sighed. “Maybe it’s just flesh and blood. She inherited my intelligence. Lin Anping is in the computer science department at Jingcheng University. I heard she’s already been sent by the school to complete many external tasks.”
Lin Mother didn’t understand computers or anything, but she knew Jingcheng University, such a good school, the admission scores were very high.
For some reason, Lin Mother thought of Lin Yuan. Last year, Lin Yuan didn’t even meet the junior college admission score and cried, saying she would study hard and retake the exam this year. She didn’t know what the results would be this year.
Lin Father was thinking the same thing as Lin Mother. It would be so great if Lin Yuan was the one who got into Jingcheng University.
Over here, Lin Anping, who had returned home, saw Grandmother looking at her photo album from when she was little.
Grandmother was startled. “An’an, you, you’re back.”
Lin Anping pretended to be sad. “Ah? Does Grandmother not want me back?”
Grandmother quickly said, “How could that be? Of course I want An’an back. But aren’t their conditions better?”
Lin Anping said coquettishly, “But I want to be with Grandmother even more. They didn’t raise me, and there’s another child in the family. What if I get bullied?”
After hearing this, Grandmother nodded. “We can’t be bullied. Then we won’t go. We’ll just stay home.”
Lin Anping burrowed into Grandmother’s arms like a child. The 1.72-meter-tall girl lay in Grandmother’s arms. Grandmother started talking about old stories. “You used to be so small…”
