XYLFTL Chapter 25
by BLReadsChapter 26
Su Zixuan immediately ran out of the dorm to borrow a thermometer, knowing there definitely wasn’t one in their dorm room.
After borrowing it, she took Anping’s temperature. During this time, Xia Xing asked Anping, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Anping shook her head and said, “I don’t feel very uncomfortable.”
“That’s so strange, how can your face be so red and you so hot if you don’t feel bad?” Jiang Shixue said.
When the temperature was taken and they looked at it, Anping herself was shocked. Her temperature was as high as 39°C.
Anping didn’t feel anything at all and looked at everyone blankly.
“We should send her to the hospital first for a thorough check-up,” Xia Xing said.
Jiang Shixue and Su Zixuan agreed, and the three of them bundled Anping up warmly and headed to the hospital together.
Anping, feeling hot, asked, “Does it really have to be like this? I’m so hot!”
“It has to be!” the three of them replied in unison. Anping could only obediently comply.
At the hospital, they went through various tests: blood was drawn, sent for analysis, and the results requested.
The test results wouldn’t be available until the afternoon. They went to eat first, and considering Anping, everyone ordered clear broth noodles.
Anping, looking at them, felt both touched and amused, “You can eat something else, it’s okay.”
“That won’t do, you’re a little patient now, we have to be considerate of your feelings,” Su Zixuan said.
Xia Xing agreed, “Once your test results are out and there’s nothing serious, we’ll eat barbecue right in front of you.”
Hahahaha, as they chatted, it was soon afternoon.
Xia Xing went to get the test results. Jiang Shixue and Su Zixuan stayed with Anping.
After Xia Xing got the test results, she saw that it said “viral infection.” After briefly asking the doctor, she learned it was due to a weakened immune system, and Anping needed to be hospitalized for observation.
When Xia Xing returned, Su Zixuan and Jiang Shixue asked, “How is it? How is it?”
Xia Xing said with a bit of sadness, “She has to be hospitalized. Viral infection. The doctor said it’s not a major problem, she’ll be fine after a few days of injections and medication, but she has to stay in the hospital.”
“Then she’ll stay. We’ll deal with it when she’s better. Go ask the counselor for a few days’ leave,” Su Zixuan said immediately.
Su Zixuan’s words not only made Jiang Shixue feel that her girlfriend was very reliable all of a sudden, but also made Anping and Xia Xing feel that she had grown up.
After speaking, Su Zixuan ran off to handle the hospitalization procedures. Anping called her back, saying that she would do it herself, as hospitalization was quite expensive.
Su Zixuan said it was nothing and disappeared in a flash. After a while, she came to take Anping to the ward.
Once in the ward, Anping realized it was a VIP ward, a suite with a kitchen, bathroom, and a separate bedroom.
Anping said repeatedly, “You didn’t need to get such a nice one, Zixuan. The doctor said I’ll be fine in a few days anyway. A regular ward would have been okay.”
“That won’t do. It’s a viral infection, and there are many people and viruses in the hospital. What if you get infected again?” Su Zixuan said.
Xia Xing nodded, “That’s right, Anping, take care of yourself first, and get well.”
Jiang Shixue asked, “Should we tell Shen Xiaoyou?”
Anping suddenly remembered that the last time she had a cold for two days, a minor cold without even a runny nose, just a cough, Shen Xiaoyou was so scared that she stayed by her side, afraid to sleep.
This time, it was better not to tell her. Anping said, “Let’s not, I’m afraid she’ll worry too much and won’t get enough rest.”
Coincidentally, Shen Xiaoyou called. After Anping answered, she asked, “Baby, what are you doing?”
Anping made up an excuse, “My roommates and I went out to play together.”
“Isn’t there class today?” Shen Xiaoyou asked suspiciously.
Anping explained, “We took leave and went on a trip. We’ll be back in a few days.”
Shen Xiaoyou paused and said, “Ah? Okay, where did you go?”
“We went to Xia Xing’s hometown to play,” Anping said.
Xia Xing and the other two didn’t dare to breathe too loudly; they could all understand Anping’s well-intentioned lie.
After hanging up the phone, Anping finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Xia Xing said, “I’ll give you some photos of my hometown later, and you can send them to Shen Xiaoyou.”
“I have some too, I can also provide them,” Jiang Shixue said.
Su Zixuan said, “After you get better, we can really go there and take a group photo to make it more believable for Shen Xiaoyou.”
Anping nodded, feeling happy. She was very grateful to have such good friends.
Similarly, Shen Xiaoyou, after hanging up the phone, wasn’t in a very good mood; she felt a bit down.
It was because Anping hadn’t said anything in advance, nor had she asked for her opinion, and had just left.
Shen Xiaoyou wanted to ask Anping why she hadn’t told her, but she felt that she would be meddling too much if she did.
But all night, Shen Xiaoyou kept turning her phone on and off.
Why was there no message after going out to play? Meanwhile, Anping fell asleep in the hospital due to the medication’s drowsiness.
When she woke up at three in the morning, she didn’t send a message to Shen Xiaoyou.
The next morning at eight o’clock, Anping picked out a few photos taken in the early morning and sent them to Shen Xiaoyou.
Then she said, “It’s so beautiful here, let’s come together next time.”
Shen Xiaoyou’s lips curved into a slight smile after seeing the message, and she happily fell asleep.
As time passed, almost a week had gone by, and Anping’s high fever persisted.
Anping felt that she wouldn’t be able to hide it from Shen Xiaoyou any longer.
Xia Xing also felt strange and called the doctor, who asked Anping if she had felt any other discomfort recently.
Anping thought carefully and said, “I always sweat in the middle of the night, and I cough a bit more, but the cough should be related to the fever, right? It seems like nothing else.”
The doctor asked, “Is the cough because your throat is itchy?”
Anping thought back carefully and said, “It doesn’t seem like it, it’s involuntary.”
The doctor suspected something was wrong and had Anping wear a mask before going for a check-up.
Xia Xing instantly felt a bit scared seeing the doctor’s serious expression.
While Anping was inside getting checked, she called Jiang Shixue and Su Zixuan to tell them.
The two also took leave and came over.
After arriving at the hospital, Su Zixuan and Jiang Shixue ran to find Xia Xing.
Looking at Xia Xing wearing a mask, they asked, “Where’s Anping? Why are you wearing a mask?”
“The doctor told me to wear it, and also had Anping wear one for the check-up. That doctor looked very serious,” Xia Xing said worriedly.
The three of them looked towards the examination room from time to time. Anping hadn’t come out for a long time.
It wasn’t until Anping came out that the three of them went up to ask.
Anping said, “The doctor told me to go back first, and to bring the test results in the afternoon.”
The three of them nodded and accompanied Anping back to the ward.
Su Zixuan said as soon as they got to the ward, “I’ll heat this up for you to drink. It’s brewed by my great-aunt.”
“Is your great-aunt the one from your last hospitalization?” Xia Xing asked.
“Yes, it’s her,” Su Zixuan said.
“Your great-aunt seems so aloof!” Jiang Shixue said.
Su Zixuan nodded, “My great-aunt is still unmarried.”
“Wow, really? Could it be that she has someone in her heart?” Xia Xing asked.
“I think she does, and I suspect the object of her affection is also a woman,” Su Zixuan said.
The three of them asked at the same time, “Why?”
“Because I came out to my great-aunt, and she didn’t object. And when she was younger, she often looked at a photo of someone. I feel like the person should be a few years older than my great-aunt,” Su Zixuan analyzed logically.
As the chicken soup warmed up, Anping found it strange as soon as she took the first sip, “It tastes like my grandmother’s!”
“Really? That’s great! I was afraid you wouldn’t get used to it!” Su Zixuan said happily.
She also ladled a bowl for Jiang Shixue and Xia Xing.
Since she was little, only she could stand her great-aunt’s chicken soup, no one else could.
So her great-aunt only brewed it for her since she was little, and her great-aunt treated her the best.
After finishing the chicken soup, the doctor came in with the test report and said heavily, “It’s a mycobacterial infection.”
The four of them looked blank: “What’s that?”
“Simply put, it’s tuberculosis, but it can be treated, it just takes a long time,” the doctor said.
“It’s also contagious, so minimize contact as much as possible. Don’t panic, it can be cured,” the doctor said, seeing that everyone was silent.
Anping took the lead in breaking the silence, “Okay, thank you, doctor.”
After the doctor left, Anping immediately took out a new pack of masks from the head of the bed and handed them to them, “You all put these on, don’t get infected, and come less often, I don’t want you to get sick too.”
“Tell us honestly, are you actually feeling unwell but have been lying to us?” Xia Xing asked.
Anping nodded, “It’s not really very uncomfortable, just a little bit.”
“Anping, we’re good friends, why don’t you tell us anything?” Su Zixuan’s tears came out all of a sudden.
Anping panicked and said, “No, it’s really not particularly uncomfortable.”
In her anxiety, Anping began to cough violently. Anping felt something on her mask.
Jiang Shixue reacted first, “Blood! Anping, are you coughing up blood?”
Anping shook her head repeatedly, “No, I wasn’t before, this is the first time today.”
Xia Xing ran to ask the doctor, who said that tuberculosis can cause this.
The doctor came over with the medication and put up a few IV drips.
Anping lay in bed, looking extremely weak. Xia Xing carefully thought about how Anping hadn’t been eating much these days.
She regretted not noticing it sooner, but she hadn’t.
Seeing that Anping had fallen asleep, the three of them sat on the chairs in the hall.
Coincidentally, Shen Xiaoyou was accompanying her grandmother for a check-up at the hospital and saw the three of them, but Anping wasn’t there.
With a bad feeling in her heart, Shen Xiaoyou told her grandmother and ran to find the three of them.
The three of them felt someone approaching, looked up, and were immediately frightened: “Si… Sister Xiaoyou.”
Shen Xiaoyou’s bad feeling grew stronger and stronger, “Yeah? Where’s Anping?”
Xia Xing felt that she couldn’t hide it any longer, so she took out a new mask and said, “Sister Xiaoyou, put this on first.”
Shen Xiaoyou did as she was told, and Xia Xing led Shen Xiaoyou towards Anping’s ward.
Reaching the front of the ward, Xia Xing said, “I’m sorry, Sister Xiaoyou, Anping was afraid you would worry, so she didn’t want us to tell you. As a result, her condition worsened today.”
Shen Xiaoyou pushed open the ward door with trepidation and saw Anping lying weakly on the bed, having lost a lot of weight.
Perhaps Xia Xing saw Anping every day and couldn’t see much change.
But Shen Xiaoyou hadn’t seen her for a week, and Anping’s change was obvious.
Shen Xiaoyou only regretted not realizing it sooner, and asked with a trembling voice, “What’s wrong with Anping? What disease does she have?”
“Tuberculosis. The doctor said it can be cured. Actually, medication alone is enough, and she doesn’t need to be hospitalized, but we insisted on her staying,” Xia Xing said.
“You did the right thing. Thank you. You’ve been working hard these days,” Shen Xiaoyou shook her head.
Shen Xiaoyou walked to Anping’s bedside and sat down. Xia Xing also left.
Su Zixuan and Jiang Shixue asked, “How is it?”
“I guess Anping herself is explaining it to Sister Xiaoyou, but it feels like Sister Xiaoyou is about to break down,” Xia Xing sighed.
“She’ll definitely be sad. She was fine a week ago, even though it’s not a major illness,” Jiang Shixue said.
Su Zixuan sighed, “I would be very sad too if I were her.”
Su Zixuan had just cried, and her eyes were still red. Su Zixuan was too emotional, and Jiang Shixue had to coax her for a long time.
